Keshin nods quietly. "If the Andalites win the war, we're pretty much all screwed. I'm not involved in that world anymore, but I am a Yeerk. And the Andalites are not going to differentiate. But are you really certain that these sort of Andalites are that big of a deal on Earth? I mean..." Keshin shakes his head. "...I've heard that there's only like five or six of them. That few couldn't really do much damage to the Empire's stronghold on Earth, especially with a morph-capable Visser in place."

"They shouldn't, should they? But judging from what elayne said, it seems they did something right. She talks about Humans discriminating against Yeerks as if the Humans still controlled Earth. I'm not so sure if the Andalites won't somehow win even if there are only six of them. I'd rather not take the chance. If you can't get the info out of her, though, then I guess it's no big deal."

Elayne smiled and shook her head. "You don't know my reasons; don't presume they're more noble than your own." She took a sip of her own drink, which she nearly spat out when Mar told her that Myitt had been killed and resurrected. "You can do that kind of ****?" she demanded. Then she laughed. "Okay, just what the hell are you, again?" She rested an elbow on the bar, propping her chin up in her palm and watching him with a mixture of interest and amusement.

Ossanlin nods as he listens to everyone.  He looks first at Claxter.  <Good thinking.  Planting some hidden traps could work out, as long as they won't show up on scanners.  Even the odds a bit.>  Ossanlin looks at Myitt and nods again.  <Well, if he's got your vote of confidence Myitt, he's got mine.  That still leaves the location and the timing though.>  He finally looks back to Terenia.  <You said the Visser lets a few things slip around you anymore...has he happened to let slip any information that says he'll be away from the ship or otherwise occupied anytime soon?>

He shakes his head.  <You don't have any ideas about where we could place the device?  I know you weren't a free human since the age of 10, we wouldn't expect you to remember anything from that regarding where suspected alien tech might be found, but what about things you've seen since in the abomination's employ?  Or things you've heard?  There has to be something....unless ...>  He looks up at Myitt.  <Do you know of any places on Earth that might work Myitt, or maybe Tara remembers something that would help?>

Keshin nods, laying Joanne's head against the wall. "Yeah...it did sound like they had managed to win, from the sound of Elayne's information. Which is...problematic on many levels. Although messing with the future, if it is our future, sounds like an even more dangerous idea. But it may be worth the attempt, if only for a little extra cash and to save my own hide. I'll see what I can do, but we might have to wait it out until her inhibitions are lowered enough."

<...Kess...what if she's really from th' future?>

<I don't know. We'll deal with that when it comes. Maybe if we change it, we will survive it. At least for two or three years.>

<...how long do ya think we got, anyway?>

<......I have no idea. I only know what you know about what might be in here, and the gist of a couple different medical examinations. I'd ask Myitt, but we'd probably have to pay for it. And we can't afford to spend any extra cash until we've got a huge surplus.>

Mar laughs aloud at Elayne's cute little presumption about him. "Oh, Elayne. You have no idea at all. I started a rebellion for basically two reasons. The first was that I was afraid I was going to be replaced in the eyes of the person who made me. And that what I was being replaced with didn't deserve the gift they were being given. The second reason was..." Mar looks off slightly, as if the thought made him look bad in front of someone he liked. "...because I was jealous. Because I wanted what wasn't mine to begin with. ...you implied that you were doing it for another person." Mar smiles a bit. "That isn't selfish. That's kind."

"And as for what I actually am..." Mar frowns, as if he hasn't thought of the question in a while. He's been here a long time now. "...I don't know, exactly. I know that I'm one of the Highest that controls Entropy, though I am not the one native to this dimension. A...deity or perhaps a powerful spirit, from your perspective. Though I'm using a rather limited mortal form. I also know that I'm fairly old, and that this is only one of many mortal variations of me co-existing right now. But...I only have very fragmented pieces of their memories in this state. It seems as though the longer I inhabit this body, the less it all makes sense to me."

Elayne gave a small, sad smile as he explained his motivations. "I am driven by my own selfishness, Mar." She murmured reluctantly, "Yes, I fought for others. At least that was the official word. In truth, my fight began because I was afraid to be separated from the Yeerk who had infested my father. I had come to love him more than I did the human in whom he lived. So I fought, partially because I didn't want to lose Terliss, but also because I didn't want my father to revert to the inattentive man he had been." She sighed and ran a finger around the rim of her glass, her gaze tracking the movement. "Only later did the movement expand to advocate for all Yeerks infesting voluntary hosts." She looked back up to him with a thin smile. "So how's that for a ****ty reason to fight: wanting to keep your father banished in his own skull because you love his captor more?"

Her smile deepened in sincerity as she listened to his explanation with interest and a little amusement. She found it hard to imagine a deity being as confused as he seemed to be. Sure, he was old, powerful, wise, but he was relatable. "That's probably typical," Elayne gave a laugh. "The longer I live, I find I truly understand less and less of what I thought I did. And not only about myself."

Mar laughs aloud in a somewhat dark and bitter way, taking a sip of his wine. He seems to be doing slightly better with it this time, thankfully. Although his suspicion is that he won't be able to take another glass without getting drunk, and this one will make him tipsy. It's his own fault for having just been "born," in a manner of speaking. "So...we are not so different then, you and I. I tried to kill my Father and take His position. And your true blood relation, it seems, did not care about you either. How could my Father have cared about me when He knew what I was going to try to do to Him and His precious mortals? I never really even had a chance." Mar stares at Elayne oddly. "And I suppose you didn't either. Not against the entire government of your world. But if you didn't make the attempt at all, you would be denying yourself."

"As for why I am so confused now...it has less to do with my age and more to do with my current state of mind," states Mar, spinning a long fingernail in his drink. "I am as mortal as I will ever be. I came here in a haphazard fashion, with little to no magical backup. But then again, I was not planning to stay so long. I can no longer understand what many of my memories mean. Not in this blasted body..."

Elayne listened, and then shook her head with a bitter smirk of her own. "I did have a chance. I could have done something differently. Or I could have done exactly what I did, but directed by different motivations. I believe there is always an alternative; I just didn't take one." She shrugged and drank from her own glass. "But it's difficult to say what is justifiable, what is necessary, what is blameworthy. Life is complicated. And during the moment of action, we're never thinking as clearly as we are when we reflect on what we have done."

She gave a short laugh. "I know. Mortal bodies are a pain the ***," she winked.

Mar laughs a bit at Elayne's last comment. "Oh, yes. Yes they are. I attempted to do magic in this thing once without realizing that I didn't have enough mass for it. That this was all I had. The result was that I ended up taking a piece out of my own side."

"As for what you said about there being alternatives you could have chosen...lucky you," says Mar dryly, shaking his head back and forth. "I'm not so sure there was anything else I could have done that wouldn't have been a lie I told myself. Though in a way these days the rebellion itself is a lie. Merely a tool I use to keep power these days, though perhaps I claimed once to be working for the dignity of all of my kind. In fact, I can't think of anything I've done in the past few million years I've been alive that wasn't poisoned by my own greed. I wonder what that says about me, no?"

Her eyes widened and looked down to his side, as if she would be able to see evidence of the injury under his clothes, but then she returned her gaze to his eyes when he continued speaking. "You're familiar with the expression, 'I'm only human?" She gave a humorless laugh. "Perhaps it applies to more than just my race. We all do things we regret or that haunt us, Mar." She shrugged. "And I don't know how lucky it is; it just means that I had the opportunity to be a better person and didn't take it."

She lifted her glass and drained it, her eyes on him over the rim. She wondered what it would be like for a being with such powers to restrict himself in a vulnerable human body and mind. The closest comparison she could imagine for herself would be morphing a Yeerk--although Yeerks and humans certainly had relatively similar intellectual capacities. As much as she sympathized with the Yeerks, she knew she would never want to become one; she wondered how reluctant Mar had been to enter this body, even if he had acted for Myitt's sake.

Terenia looks uneasy at Ossanlin's question, "I do not know Visser Three's precise schedule," she admits, "I know that he goes to Earth once every few days so that his host can feed while the ship-board grass in his quarters replenishes itself. Beyond that, his schedule tends to vary greatly. He has to make many appearances, whether it be to the Council above him or to show his power to those below him. He's only actually at the bridge of his ship perhaps a quarter of the time, the rest of his time is spent on other matters."

She pauses, considering, "it is the front organization, The Sharing, that draws up most of the Visser's time. That and every time the Andalite bandits show up," she winces, as though the Andalite bandits existence is in direct relationship to how much pain she ends up feeling, "because of them he spends more time on Earth, in the area they are most likely to frequent. He is obsessed."

<I don't suppose we might contact the Andalites there for aid? Or would that help much at all?> Claxter asked. It would be possible to have them act in a way that if the mission failed, the blame would be on them. however, he wasn't sure he wanted to use his own people as a scapegoat for Terenia. <We could contact them with a mirrorwave call, though that would also alert visser Three that someone was attempting contact for some reason.>

Keshin nods at Sukohn's reply and slowly stands up from his position against the wall. "I promise I'll look into it. Just make sure you have some cash ready if I succeed, eh? I'm going back inside. You can come if you'd like."

Keshin then wanders up towards the front doors of the Bar and opens them, sitting at a table not far from Elayne and the man in the coat. For the life of him he can't remember what the guy's name was, but he figures that it doesn't matter. <All we need is that information from Elayne, and it shouldn't take long for those two to get drunk.>

<And maybe we can too, waitin' for 'em.>

<No alcohol for you, Joanne.>

Keshin raises an arm and grins at the bartender. "Orange juice, please." The bartender grunts and quickly prepares Keshin's drink. Keshin smiles and begins to gulp down the delicious juice.

Mar stares onward, listening to Elayne's comments on her past and her regrets. He looks at her quietly and mutters, "...strange that I should find kindred spirits among you mortals. You who have deep regrets, and who have experienced loss. The usual arrogance and single-minded belief in your own opinions isn't as present with you as it is in others. Neither was it in Ossanlin."

Mar sighs. "Still...it will all come to nothing. When I leave this shape and return to my true self, this will all seem to be the rantings of a fool maddened by mortality. There are simply too many lives and memories stacked against those of this life. I will seem immature and childish to that massive creature. That's part of the reason I am delaying my leave of this Bar. My friend and me discussed this depressing prospect earlier."

Sukohn decided not to reenter the bar. elayne may be more willing to talk about herself if she knew he was out of earsot. But what to do now? He decided t go to his ship and look around for something to give keshin for a down payment on the iformation. Either some spare credits, or something he could sell off for a pretty price.

When he got to his ship and looked around, he made a mental list of what he could give. He did have a small stash of credits that he always held on to. He also had some extra fuel cells for his fighter. Though giving away somthign like fuel sells might put him in a bind later. He continued looking.
