Terenia freezes at Mar's words. For a long time she stands perfectly still. Even her stalk eyes are still, neglecting their usual tracking for enemies.
<Terenia-> Efaen says, sounding scared.
<He just...he...I don't even...> Terenia sputters silently to Efaen.
<Do not do anything you will regret, Terenia,> Efaen warns, but her thoughts are merely being thrown up against a wall of regret and pain and she cries out in public thought speak, finally breaking her statuesque pose to face Mar. Her expression is a wild, twisted mask of hatred and self-loathing, her eyes wild.
<You don't know anything about me!> Terenia cries, tail hovering dangerously. She steps forward, closing any gap between herself and Mar to put him within striking range, <you have NO right to question me. None of you do! Why should I trust a bunch of petty Andalites, who don't care about my mission, just the body I have? Why should I trust a bunch of rebel Yeerks who could sell me out, or a bounty hunter who could make a profit off of me? Since when do YOU have the right to question MY worth!?> Terenia's hands have returned to balled up fists, her main eyes narrowed into slits. She feels as though she has had this conversation many times before, but it does not erase the pain.
<Terenia, don't!> Efaen cries, as Terenia's control slips slightly, allowing Efaen to see her intents.
<Shut up,> Terenia growls to Efaen, although it is unintentionally in open thought-speak.
<You have NO place in this conversation,> Terenia says to Mar, her eyes ablaze with hatred. She whips her tail downward at lightning speed, aiming for his jugular.
<NO!> Efaen cries, and Terenia shudders. Her tail stops mid-arc and she takes one leaden step backward. For a brief moment, the hatred fades from her eyes, being replaced with fear. Then it is gone and Terenia is back in control, tremors running up and down her body. She looks at the patrons of the bar for a moment in shell-shock before turning on hoof and running out the door.
