Zoshonel's shot wasn't direct enough. He hit his thrusters to try to get closer to aim for another shot. His ship's computer said the enemy would soon pass into Z-Space. "Crap. This prey may escape yet." he said as he fired one last time.

Ossanlin sees the Bug's thrusters light up and tracks it with the Skimmer's weapons system.  <He's making a break from the atmosphere...he's trying to enter z-space...>

"I can try. Damn better shooter than I am a pilot -- but there isn't time to discuss," her voice took on an urgent tone. "He looks dangerously close to entering Z-space." She gripped the controls and focused on the holoscreen, her eyes darting back and forth to orient herself. "Alright," she whispered, zeroing in on the craft and firing, just as light from Zoshonel's own shot lit the sky.

Gaz looks at the screen.

"There!" she says and points. "A file that doesn't match up with the others. Pull that one out."

"9....8...." the computer counts down. The Hork-Bajir sees several ships coming towards him, but they are still relatively distant.

"...7...6...5..."

He heaves a sigh of relief. There is no way that they will catch him now.

"4...3...2...."

A second before the ship enters Zero-Space two separate beams of light connect with the main hull of the ship. The Hork-Bajir has just enough time to go from looking relieved to terrified before the ship explodes into a fiery ball of light, sending debris flying in all directions.

Elayne sagged in her seat with a relieved grin, but her hands fell loosely into her lap, palms up. "That was close," she said with a laugh that contained no mirth. She looked to Myitt with a weak smile. "If I don't find myself a pilot -- think you'll be needing a weapons operator? I'm trained on the finest Nintendo products." she joked.

"Yes! Vistory!" Zoshonel yelled. He slowed his ship down and set a course to land back near the bar.

<Excellent!> Claxter said as he saw the bugfighter go down. He left the room to tell the news to Efaen, but whe he saw her he also saw her holding Terenia up to her ear. <Efaen! What are you doing!?> He said, rushing over.

Terenia squeezes her way back into Efaen's ear, flattening herself out and releasing the numbing serum as she goes. Efaen looks at Claxter, her eyes hollow.

<I'm sorry,> she says, <I'm so-> her speech cuts off as Terenia reaches the thought-centers of her brain. For a second her eyes go glassy while Terenia struggles for control. When they refocus her expression settles into a content smirk.

<Ahhhh,> Terenia says, flexing her tail, <that's better.>

Myitt grimly watches the ship explode on the holo displays, and its bright burst of light is also visible through the big red bug-eye windows.  She sinks back in the chair, exhaling.

"Yeah, he was about to make a z-space jump, if I'm reading this energy signal correctly," says Myitt.  The ship rocks lightly from the aftershock of the explosion, and Myitt leans forward to maneuver the ship away from any debris that might impact the shielding.  She grins at Elayne.  "Nice shooting, soldier.  If only I could use Nintendo skills the way you do.  I was never very good at the cannon end of things, just piloting."  She tilts her head quizzically.  "I'd love to have a good weapons officer, kid, but you know I can't take the chance.  We'll try and get out out of here, though.  Don't worry."  Turning the other way she nods at Mar.  "Looks like you've survived, too."  She doesn't sound entirely thrilled.

---

"Hah hah!" Mike crows, pumping a fist.  "They got the bastard!"

Corliss takes control and pilots the ship away, now following Myitt's signal.

Claxter didn't respond immediately. His feelings were all mixed up in a bundle of bitterness over what Efaen just did, embarassment over the thought of Terenia going over her recent memories, and some other feelings. He felt like whatever he said would just be thrown back at him by Terenia, who believed he didn't know enough to remark on her situation.

<How's it going, warrior?> Terenia asks Claxter, <enjoying my host?>

She spends a second rifling through Efaen's recent memories, ignoring as she cries out in protest, <I see that you have been. I'm sorry to take her away from you, but really, I did tell you that she knew it was for the best.>

<<Terenia, stop it,>> Efaen protests, but there is little fight in her thought-speak.

<I'd rather not get into the previous argument again. Right now a message has been sent to Visser Three, and we need to decide what to do. If he finds out you, Terenia, are still alive he will use your sister as a hostage. It may be best to let them believe we illed you.>

<No,> Terenia shakes her head, the smirk fading and a more serious look coming over her face, <he has ways of tracking this body. He's able to lock onto the translator chip in Efaen's skull. How do you think his lackey's found this place to begin with?>

<I was unaware that was possible.> Claxter said. That was kind of creepy, seeing how he obviously also had one in his head. I wonder if it's possible to remove it. Even in cases of malfunction, the scientists can usually repair them without removing them. I really don't know, but there must be some way. Some way we can save you.> The "you" he was talking about was Efaen, but Terenia could also assume he was usuing the plural form of the word.

<Hah nice shot!> Alic grinned, she knew that yeerk couldn't escape. She heard Claxter from the back and knew something was wrong. Efaen. She let that horrible human-yeerk back into her head! How could she be so stupid? Yes, Alic said she would let it happen if that was what Efaen wanted. She just wish there was an explaination as to why. She couldn't even stand to go back there, the thought of letting a creature so insane take control of her body disugusted her.
