"So your father became a voluntary Controller," Myitt summarizes, still looking puzzled.  "But how could you talk to him, while his Yeerk fed?  Were you both being held at a pool, and your Yeerks just happened to have the same feeding schedule?"  She blinks, looking around.  "You know, it does kind of smell like popcorn."

She squints at Keshin/Joanne, who are munching on a bag of popcorn.  "Oh, it's them.  Man, I can't even remember the last time we had popcorn," she says, biting her lip.

Puk/Gort sidles up to them and Myitt looks down at them.  "Hey," Myitt says, eyebrows raised.  "A Gedd.  Nice to meet you, Puk...and um...Gort?  I'm Myitt.  Aren't those both Gedd names?  They don't sound Yeerkish."

In the pool, Corliss replies to Terenia ultrasonically, <There isn't much I can do, I'm afraid, unless Mike decides to pick me up and place me into Efaen, and I don't even know what state of mind he's in right now.  That hit on the head was pretty brutal, and I know he doesn't want to risk another one.  I think if Myitt or someone else had infested Efaen by now, we would've heard them speak through Efaen.>  He slumps a bit.  <I suppose we wait, then.>

"That's a tricky problem there." Temrash said knowing Terenia couldn't hear him. It would be suspicious for Zorish to leave somewhere that he's so vital without coming up with something where he'd be needed more. Hearing Terenia talk, it didn't look like that was happening. If they tried to just move Tammy, Visser Three would get suspicious. Everyone knew he was a moron, but he did at least have two brain cells to rub together.

He decided to order a strong drink and relax at the bar to think things over.

Meanwhile Claxter administered the serums to Efaen so that she would soon wake up but not lash out violently.

(I'll go ahead and have Claxter do that since Oss may not post for a while. Though we all enjoy the quality of his posts when he does.)

Puk nods, chuckling. "Prrreased to meet you. Ourrrrs arrrre both Gedd names- we'rrrre a long storrrry. I got stuck in the Yeerrrrrrk's form while hiding- my mate, Gorrrrrrt, lets me stay in his head." He lets out a light, rolling grunt, a sort of audible smile. "If you'rrrre also a parrrrt of Corrrrliss's rrrrebellion, I suppose that makes two morrrre Yeerrrrrk-rrrrrelated deviants. Thrrrree if we count the daughterrrr of a voluntarrrry."

((thanks, guys! And thanks for the descriptions -- I appreciate it!))

"Well this was after the war, of course," she said with a frown. "Otherwise I would've been seized, too. Besides, he had a personal Yeerk pool." Distracted from talking about her past by the prospect of food, she stared at the bag of popcorn with interest. Glancing to the bartender, she wondered if he had any more where that came from... or perhaps even something more substantial. "Is the food around here any good?" she asked Myitt curiously. When Puk/Gort approached, she turned to look at him and, after taking a moment to take in his appearance and decipher his speech, she smiled. "Pleased to meet you too. I'm Elayne."

The drugs begin to go to work on Efaen quickly, and her stirs grow more noticeable. Her green eyes open half-mast, but they are unfocused. She closes her eyes again, squeezing them tight, before opening them and her stalk eyes all at once.

Initially a look of confusion sweeps across Efaen's face. Her location is entirely unfamiliar, and she wonders vaguely if she has been kidnapped. Slowly she pieces together bits of information. I was in the bar... she works out silently, we were arguing. I was angry at the Yeerk, because I had been shot. And... she winces. Nothing, except a deep ache in her head, perhaps from hitting it on the floor twice in fifteen minutes. She decides to instead focus on her whereabouts. Her gaze falls on Claxter.

<You...> she mutters, still not entirely coherent as she pulls herself to her feet shakily, <what happened?>

<<I hate waiting,>> Terenia groans privately, <<I'm ready to get out of this pool. I feel like I'm going to shrivel up.>>

Myitt barks a laugh.  "Wow, that's pretty good, we've got not one but two Yeerk nothlits.  I didn't know it was the 'in' thing to do.  You'll have to explain just how a Gedd came across Andalite morphing technology, you know."

The moment Elayne says 'after the war', Myitt stares at her, unblinking, ignoring everything else.  Everything sort of clicks into place.  "Wait, what do you mean, 'after the war'?" she demands.  "You're from someplace where the war has ended?  The Yeerk-Andalite war?"  She sucks in a breath.  "What happened on Earth?  What about the rebellion, and the Peace Movement?  Is there still an Imperial presence on the occupied planets?  Yeerks living on Earth unobstructed, by the Kandrona itself..."  She stops herself.  "No...no, I don't want to know.  Just forget it.  Forget I ever said anything."  Myitt turns back to her drink abruptly, turning the glass around between trembling hands.

<She could just be from another universe or whatever, you know.>

<Yeah.  Maybe.  Could be,> says Myitt tremulously, <but I don't want to take the chance that she's telling us our own future.  It's too much.  I don't want to think about it.>

In the pool, Corliss too is impatient.  <I'm going to see if Mike can get us out of here, but you're going to need a proper pool, and soon.  Otherwise you're going to need a host, and I can't promise you anything on that end.>

He swam to the edge of the little tupperware container, which Mike had been watching blearily.

"God, I 'ope that's you, mate," says Mike, fishing Corliss out of the pool and holding him up to his ear.  He sits in a limp daze, slouched over for a few minutes as Corliss regains control.

"We found ourrrrrselves on a Skrrrrrit Na vessel when-" Puk stops abruptly as he hears Elayne casually mention post-war Yeerkdom. "-afterrrr? But I thought... The Visserrrrr and the rrrrebels arrre still... How could..?"

Hearing distress, Breekan offers a reassuring smile, having just retrieved a large glass of stout from the bar. "Seems all of you involved in the war are still far, far too stressed out for an end to be on the forseeable horizon; chances are, whatever time or Universe our newcomer has news of is too distant to fret over, right?" He nods at Myitt's redin and takes a sip of his own drink. "See, right there, drinking in the face of existential absurdity. That's good strategy. One of the most delicious."

((Welcome Marie!! My character is 7' 6" and looks exactly like my avatar except he has a sniper, Battle Rifle, and a shotgun on his back; along with his Katana. Also on his thigh is the hilt of his energy sword.))

Parker notices the new woman enter the bar and get into a convo with Myitt. He picks up that she's from Myitt's future, and it's obvious that Myitt's concerned. Parker walks over to provide a distraction and a change of topic.

"Hi, my name's Parker-821."

<You were becoming hostile after Corliss shot you. You set your weapon to the highest setting, so I also stunned you. I apologize for that. I probably should have given Alinciana and time to restrain you without stunning you again. Your body must be sore. I have taken you to the ship to help you distance yourself from the Yeerks. Prince Ossanlin is here too. You are safe here. No one will shoot you and try to reinfest you. Corliss and Myitt seem to have sided with Terenia over Prince Ossanlin, so I feel it has become unsafe for you inside the bar. I also noticed a large Hork-Bajir controller enter the bar as well, so all the better that you were removed.>

<Oh...> Efaen tries to process all of this information, but she still looks a bit confused, <you...shot me?> She shakes her head, trying to clear it. The fog is receding, albeit slowly. The idea of a bar seething with Yeerks does enter her head fairly clearly, though, and she looks slightly ill.

<Where is Terenia?> Efaen asks, surprised in spite of herself that she is the first person to come to mind.

((My character, Gelia, is humanoid, but taller, has nearly white skin, very light icy blue hair, and that same color for her large feathery wings and eyes.  She has a light blue t-shirt on and navy blue pants.  She is also cryokenetic--power to control ice.
))
Gelia glances up as the newcomer comes in and strikes up a conversation with a human.  She now understands some history.  Scooting her chair back from the table she was at, so that she was nearer to the actual bar, she held out her hand to this Elayne.  "Sorry to interrupt.  My name is Gelia.  I'm a newcomer at this ramshackle place too."  She said.

Then, the phrase "after the war" hit her.  "After the war?  What are you talking about.  The war was in the same system as my planet, and though we stayed neutral, we heard much about it.  I thought the war was still dragging."

"No, no, no, Breekan," says Myitt quietly, still turning the drink around in her hands.  "It could happen today, or next week, or years from now.  Or it might not happen exactly how it's happened in her universe at all.  Point is, I don't want to know."  She looks down at the drink, miserably.

Corliss finally looks up.  "Cor, I would've thought you'd have taken paracetamol by now," he winces.

<Yeah, reckon I'll start carrying it in me bleeding back pocket, at this rate,> says Mike bitterly.

Corliss glances at Myitt and the new girl, wondering who she is.  Myitt looked sulky as usual, but didn't appear to be in any danger.  He looks over at Terenia in the little pool, and leans over, gently fishing her out of the water.

He stands up, holding Terenia in his un-singed right hand.  "We need a place to put Terenia, right away.  The pool isn't a very healthy environment anymore, too cold and not enough juice.  If no one wants to help her, I'm going to take her to the pool in the Skimmer."  He nods at the bartender.  "Barkeep, could I have like, a ziploc baggie, filled with warm water please?"

The bartender stares at Corliss, eyes narrowed to slits.  He then shrugs and goes about setting one up, handing the warm plastic baggie to Corliss with a look that says, 'I've had weirder requests'.

"Thanks, mate," says Corliss, carefully placing Terenia into the warm ziploc and zipping it halfway.

Myitt looks over at her brother.  "Where are you going?" she asks sharply.

"Something needs to be done about Terenia.  I'm taking her to the Skimmer pool, for now."

"Good, all right," says Myitt.  Yeah, don't come over here and listen to this chick from the future.  Please.  You'll want to know every last ****ing detail, she sourly comments to herself.

Corliss shrugs and walks quickly out the door.

<Hey, man, aren't you a little curious?> asks her host.

<No.  Not even a little,> says Myitt firmly, doing something she rarely does--closing her thoughts off to her host.

<Oh, go ahead and be all emo,> Tara says snarkily.

<Fine, I will.>  Myitt sneers at the bar counter, then drinks half of the glass of liquor, coughing a little.  "****," she mutters.

Outside, Corliss passes by Ossanlin's ship on his way to the Skimmer.  The lights were certainly on, and he pauses, glancing down at the little baggie.  No, there probably wouldn't be any Yeerk pools in there.  Hardly any friends, either.  He continues on toward the Skimmer, still well within a short distance from the bar.

<She is inside the bar where she was before. She should be outside of thought speak range, so you won't even have to hear her.> Claxter said, not knowing Corliss had moved her.

"I always have a spare pool, but the Skimmer is as good a spot as any." Temrash commented. He overheard the new girl mention the war was over where she was from. Was she from the future of his universe? Myitt obviously didn't want to know, but this information could be very valuable. He moved closer to where she was.

"Hello Elayne. My name is Temrash. My rugged host is Jagill. Nice to meet you. So you're from the future. No telling which dimension you are from, ut I find that interesting nonetheless. I don't suppose you'd be willing to talk about that? I deal in information gathering to help my cause. If you don't mind, that is."

"No, I don't want anything to do with this, I'm sorry," Myitt says, standing up suddenly as soon as Temrash brings up the subject.  "It was nice meeting you, Elayne.  No hard feelings.  I hope you can understand."  She brings her glass with her and moves down to the other end of the bar.

<Liar, you want to know,> Tara accuses.  <You're just too scared.>

<Yes, I am.>

When Myitt began her rampage of questions, Elayne's lips parted in shock. "You mean we are from different... realities? But how--?" She was unable to finish her question, for at that moment, Parker approached her. As she nodded to him, she frowned in confusion, not understanding why he would have a familiar-sounding Earth name followed by numbers. Is that some new Yeerk fad, to name themselves after humans, she wondered, or is he from somewhere else entirely? Maybe he's not even a Controller. She nodded to Gelia in greeting and had opened her mouth to speak to them both when Temrash approached her as well.

Her grip on her mug, she dimly noticed, had tightened again. Her back was rigid, and her eyes had widened with each successive person to greet her. "I'm pleased to meet you all," she said. "My name is Elayne. And... if you'd excuse me," she murmured and dropped her heavy boots to the floor, the barstool legs scraping as she stood. Her eyes followed Myitt with concern but, not wanting to crowd someone she hoped would become a new friend and, overwhelmed by all these new faces at once, she clutched what was left of her drink and walked out the space bar door.

She did not go far, but leaned against the wall, staring at her ship (which was sporting several new scratches and scrapes, she noticed), thinking about what all of these strangers had told her. "I am from the future," she gave voice to the thought, then scowled. That's ridiculous, she told herself. But the earnest looks the bar's patrons had given her suggested it was not. "Then I am from a future," she amended. It didn't sound quite as silly that way, and she thought she might be able to swallow it better. She straightened from the wall, considering if she should go back inside; she did not want to be rude.
