<Terenia is not a Yeerk,> Efaen says, addressing Puk with none of the respect that she reserves for her own kind, <Terenia is a human, who has a Yeerk body. Despicable as that is she is no more Yeerk than she was Andalite when that was the form she claimed. She is a confused being who has allowed her delusions to guide her.>

<Well, there are certain roles in life that one gender finds easier to do than the other...> Claxter said. He didn't want to offend her, but it was a fact that males were stronger and more durable, plus they had better blades.

<As I am simply a fresh Warrior, and Prince ossanlin is very skilled and experienced, I can't really say much for the company he keeps. Some of which are more civilized than others.> He said, and gave Keshin a look while thinking of the way she made her move as soon as Corliss was alone. <He has done many great things, and it says much that the Electorate would overlook the other things at all. He may even be almost as great as Prince Elfangor was.>

<Perhaps,> Efaen allows, <but Prince Elfangor never associated with Yeerks. Still, I suppose I cannot denounce what the Electorate approves of, even if I do not understand it.> She shakes her head, as if to indicate how foreign the concept is to her, before continuing her story.

<Regardless of whether Terenia can be classified as a Yeerk or not, she is Yeerk in form. Prior to my infestation, she had been recently nothlitized and was serving aboard the same Dome Ship as I. Of course, initially the Princes of the ship sought out to kill her, but once they realized her circumstances they found a much better purpose. Warriors were notified that the primary target of any battle was to capture, not kill, as many Yeerk enemies as possible. Once prisoner's were obtained, the Yeerk would be starved out and it would be Terenia's job to enter the former host and gather any pertinent information. Following this, the host would be destroyed.> Efaen pauses. <No one except the Captain and a few select Prince's knew that this was occurring. In fact, no one was even aware of Terenia's presence on the ship. To most of us, she was merely her host, a trouble-making warrior who had been Terenia's friends in their aristh days. Clearly she made some sort of deal to be infested voluntarily.> Efaen snorts in disgust, <The majority of us had no knowledge of the ruse.>

"So, Terenia was an Andalite before she took her current form," Corliss pipes up from the doorway.  "I reckoned that was logical."  He steps away from the door frame and lets the wooden door swing shut behind him, walking back over to the bar.  He steps up close to Efaen and smiles.  "My name is Corliss Three-Eight-Two.  My host's name is Michael Leicester, from the human country called England.  We exist as allies in the civil war against the Empire.  Actually, we've become quite good friends."  He idly looks at the fingernails on his bandaged hand.  "Surely you've heard of the Yeerk rebellion, Efaen?"  Looking back up at the Andalite, he continues, "To you it may be nothing more than a rumor.  Propaganda to elicit sympathy for the Yeerk people.  But it is a reality, and it's probably why War-Prince Ossanlin continues to find our little faction good company.  He is a great warrior, and very wise.  War-Prince Elfangor was a great warrior, too, and a terrible bane to our people, regardless of our alliances.  But perhaps even he would've seen the truth, that no race can be entirely painted with one brush.  No single race is entirely evil, or takes pleasure in the horrors of war.  There are many good Andalites, and there are many good Yeerks.  Terenia is, or was, a good human being.  And I believe that she has good intentions."

His comm link beeps, and he pulls it out of his pocket, accepting the hail.  "Excuse me, Efaen."

"Hellooo-ooo?" Myitt's voice streams into the room.  "We're about to emerge from z-space, and I got your stupid Cocoa Puffs.  Except they're Australian.  Sorry.  See you in a few."

The hail ends, and Corliss squints down at it, looking exasperated.  "All right, Myitt, I'm still here," he replies in English.  "Be careful."

<Terenia is deranged,> Efaen says to Corliss icily, <she is a human, and her intentions are convoluted at best and traitorous at worst, as it is with all humans.>

She turns her attention away from the Yeerk as he takes the call, resuming her story with the Andalites.

<Terenia could not see the good that was being done. She was using her revolting body to the greatest advantage. She could have been one of the Andalite fleets greatest assets, a fact that she chose to ignore. Instead, fed up with following the Prince's orders for her to infest former hosts, she planned an escape. Terenia's host at the time was larger and stronger than I, and she attacked me in my sleep. By the time anyone sounded the alarm, I was infested and she had escaped into Zero-Space on a stolen fighter. Eventually, her need for Kandrona and desire to reunite with her sister led her to an outpost near Earth. There she revealed herself to Visser Three, and there we have stayed, acting as his puppet.>

Keshin smirks slightly. "You know...during the course of this little event three different people have suggested that I'm less than good company. Oh, well. I suppose all of you are technically right on the mark with that one. But you could at least not make it so obvious."

Keshin then stands up and joins the group speaking to Efaen. "So, you're Terenia's host? Overall, I found her surprisingly rational.  And now you're saying she outright exposed herself to the Visser? Why would she do a thing like that? Visser Three isn't exactly the nicest Yeerk ever born, and even an oblivious Andalite-exposed human would probably know that in passing."

<I don't really see how she or her sister is faring any better since terenia left the Andalites. You are saying that Tamora was taken before she exposed herself to the Visser, as opposed to her being infested so she would do what he said? How does exposing herself help her sister or her cause?>

((Phew this takes a lot of explaining. Someday I'll create less complicated characters...))

<The Abomination was already more or less aware of Terenia's existence,> Efaen says, <In fact, it was because of Visser Three's handiwork that she made the foolish decision to abandon her Andalite guise and take a Yeerk form permanently. He had captured her siblings years before. Whether it was a coincidence or calculated, I do not know. He pitted Terenia against the Yeerk who controlled her older brother, and she killed him. That was when she idiotically decided to punish herself. The Visser, in his neverending foolishness and hypocrisy, was so delighted with her situation that he allowed her to leave. I suppose he always expected she would return. He probably thought she wouldn't last more than three days, but the Andalites have ways of securing Kandrona. She did return, however, only with me as her host instead of her friend. Visser Three, of course, was delighted,> Efaen gives Claxter a wry grin.

<Yeerks, it turns out, are not much more logical than humans. Visser Three is especially erratic. Terenia's existence within me was a threat to his status as the only Andalite Controller, yes. But his pleasure in watching her suffer outweighed the risk. Can you imagine? Terenia had, at one point, been almost as vigilant against the Yeerks as a respectable Andalite, and here she returns to Visser Three's Blade Ship with an involuntary host? Imagine his reaction.>

<Well you are safe from her now. There could quite possibly be something wrong with her, mentally speaking. I don't suppose you would be interested in reassigning to continue your military career? Or perhaps retiring to the Homeworld?>

Ossanlin shakes his head a bit.  <Elfangor was a great Andalite indeed, I don't know that I'm entirely comfortable with being compared to him.  I would hope that if he had been given the time, a greater wisdom would have come to him.  I thank you for the compliment Claxter, but I believe I have quite a distance to cover before coming anywhere near Prince Elfangor.>

Ossanlin looks at Corliss as he speaks and eye-smiles a bit, his tail swishing back and forth over his back lazily.  <That's part of it Corliss.  Myitt is also a very dear friend.  After all, she did rescue me from Seran's infestation some time ago.  If it weren't for her, I would probably be playing host to Visser 4.>

Ossanlin shifts his main eyes back to Efaen as she finishes her narrative.  <Claxter is correct regarding your infestation.  The only way she'll return to your head is with your permission.  It sounds as if she'll not be getting that.>

Ossanlin sighs a bit before continuing.  <I'm well aware that there is a war being waged.  I'm also aware that that war will still be there after a few drinks and some relaxation.  The war isn't going to be decided tomorrow Warrior Efaen.  We're in a deadlock, a quagmire.  Battles rage yet overall gains and losses are minimal, aside from the loss of life that is.>

Ossanlin crosses his arms in front of his chest.  <Is Terenia driven solely by her sister's captivity, or has she become loyal to Visser 3 or the Empire?>

<Terenia, as I said, is delusional. She is loyal only to herself, even if it means being loyal to the Empire. If tomorrow her sister were to wake up an Andalite you would likely find Terenia trying to find a way to burrow herself back into the Andalite military or homeworld, to protect her there.> Efaen says, disgust thick in her voice. She turns to Claxter, <Young warrior, how aware are you of military protocols? I have been gone from years and was never formally promoted to warrior. No Prince would take me on without undergoing at the very least the practical portion of my aristh training. Rejoining the war effort would be a year-long process at least. But I am not going back to the homeworld.> Efaen looks set on this point, glaring at Claxter as though daring him to suggest otherwise.

<I never thought about females in the military. I had never seen one, and I had so much else to think about besides questions like 'What if females were as common in the military as males?'. I thought about things like 'If I don't pass today's training my Prince might lock me in my room again without food.'.>

<I don't doubt that Terenia is so self serving that she would pick whatever side that would help prolong her sister's life. I am unsure what she would attempt to do if we abandn her sister, but it would likely not be pretty.>

Corliss laughs quietly.  "Come on, Keshin, you're a bounty hunter.  Do you really expect to make friends?"

To Ossanlin he adds, "The only comparison I've made between you and Elfangor is your ability in battle.  I never said I particularly liked the fellow."

He looks around, a bit concerned.  "Where is Terenia, anyway?"

<Yes, where is she?> Efaen wonders looking around eagerly. She gives a little flick of her tail, suddenly anxious to know where Terenia is. <You did not kill her did you?> Efaen asks, addressing everyone in general.
