<I am certain that you will not like her answer,> Terenia says blandly. She does not elaborate. In fact, she does not feel much like talking at all anymore. Already she can feel the edge of hunger in her Yeerk body. Her Andalite internal clock is telling her that this is the time she had been planning on feeding initially, utilizing the limited portable Kandrona on her ship. From this point forward she knew that life would become increasingly uncomfortable until she left Efaen.

<So save yourself the trouble and leave,> Efaen said.

<I'd rather not let you gloat until the last possible moment,> Terenia responded. <Although I am still not entirely sure why you are so eager for your freedom. What exactly do you have to go back to? You yourself have seen the atrocities that the Andalite's are capable of committing. Why are you so loyal?>

<Because I am not you.> Efaen responded simply.

Keshin isn't exactly thrilled to be getting into a talk about honor either. As far as he's concerned, honor is utter bull**** that people keep with them to make themselves feel better. It can be turned on and off at any time, by anyone who uses it. Keshin glances at Corliss and states,

"I think the reason we can still stand each other is because we're probably not all that different. But it's still kind of odd, isn't it? Deal or no, we just went from trying to kill you to having a drink with you in about an hour or so. This Bar seems like the kind of place where strange things happen all the time."

"Yeah, that's real strange. But the more I think about it, Temrash acts that way with some bounty hunters too. Like that Asmodee guy. I guess maybe bounty hunting is a profession like any other, so there are good and bad ones. Though it can be hard to tell who is good and who is bad when they're all trying to capture or kill you." Zoshonel said to Keshin.

"I don't reckon it's the bar that does it, not in any sort of supernatural way," says Corliss, considering, "more like this place attracts so many bitter enemies, all of whom really just want to have a drink and not talk about their jobs.  Of course, Keshin, that very fact also makes it a great place for people in your profession to actually carry out their jobs." He nods at Temrash.  "That goes for Asmodee, as well.  Where'd he go, anyway?  Off to fight another day?"  He winces, maneuvering his arm.

Alic didn't know how to respond, she sighed and finished her water. Ossanlin was right, and she knew that. It was very much like her to act without thinking. She was beginning to think he knew her better than she knew herself.
Besides. The human-yeerk will have to leave Efaen soon, and she would be free. That would be enough for Alic for now.

"I think he retired and went home. Business was bad, and he had recently been betrayed by one of his big employers. If we ever see asmodee again, I don't think we need to worry about him trying to kill anyone."

Terenia shifts uncomfortably. She is glad that the conversation has shifted from honor to bounty hunters, although the existence of bounty hunters at the bar does not make her any more comfortable. She wonders briefly if she could find a way to sneak off and steal a ship that Ossanlin's Dome Ship would not be watching for, but decides that it would be suicide. Instead she remorphs human, deciding that the risk was worth it for a drink.

"Bartender, whiskey sour." Terenia ordered as soon as she was human. The BT served up the drink and gave it to her with an expression as sour as the drink. Terenia ignored him and took a large gulp.

Morgan sighed as he got ready to tell the story.

"I used to have an honest job," Morgan started. "I was a trader. That's how I had the ship. But one day, I saw something I wasn't supposed to see at a delivery point. Something that revealed the Central Government wasn't as great as they were claiming to be. So, they branded me a rebel and put out a warrant to lock me up. I had an idea what this meant so we were trying to get ready to get on my ship and leave for a remote outer planet that the Central Government tended to ignore. While I was getting the ship ready, one of the CG's bounty hunters...Cavan came. I wasn't there and apparently Andromeda wouldn't cooperate so...Cavan shot her."

Morgan took a deep breath before he could continue.

"When I got to the house, Cavan had left. I found Andromeda...dead, and you were missing. No one knew where you were. I was trying to find you, wouldn't leave without you. That's when Cavan came back. He had orders to bring me back alive. I was kept in a holding center for a year. After that they took me to a secret lab located in a prominent Central Government hospital. This particular lab was dedicated to genetic experimentation. As lab rats they used those branded as rebels."

Morgan paused to take a sip of his drink.

"They injected me with a serum every day for a month. I was chosen for this particular experiment because I was fit and strong. Therefore I was more likely to survive the process. After a week the transformation began, very slowly. Very painfully. It's never pleasant to have bones shift and grow hooves. Or have your face change. Can't imagine I was pleasant to look at during that time. The change took....around another year to complete. They kept me locked up to see how I reacted to the change. Usually when one is branded a rebel they are never seen again."

Morgan took another sip of rum.

"After I had been there for 5 years, Asda, who had been a rising young Doctor at the hospital, was assigned to the experiment lab. Not long out of med school and brilliant. They thought she would be good for the project. It was quite the reverse. Asda was horrified, and even though it would cost her her job and life, she helped release myself and as many others as she could. We got to my ship and took up the only job that was open to people like us...smuggling. Taking any job we could find from anyone who would offer it and pay. I met Gaz a couple years later, and she served on my ship for a few years before she took on her own."

(That was practically a novel. lol.)

Fox was listenening to Morgan's story and it hurt. He turned around and looked at the dogtags and picture on the counter and thought only to say outloud: "Is that how I'm going to find my father, if I do?" Fox then broke into tears.

Morgan turned in his chair and put a reassuring hand on Fox's shoulder.

"Don't let my tale worry you, son," Morgan said. "I'm sure you'll find your father someday."

Zoshonel was shocked to see Fox break into tears. "You ok Fox? You're worried about missing family too? Heh. My, aren't I the weird one here? Our people aren't in a war, I come from a good and loving family, and I'm just a fun lovingguy out in space looking for adventure. everyone else has much bigger worries and problems than I do. Uh oh! That's bad luck!" Zoshonel said, and made a gesture over his head that one might assume is meant to ward off bad luck.

<You know, Morgan, morphing power lets us change into different species. It isn't painful because of a certain safety device in the technology, but it feels like it should hurt. I suppose if there wasn't something guarding against pain, then morphing would be excrutiating. Of course that doesn't mean I know how you felt, but I can empathisea little bit.>

Fox wipes the tears from his eyes and looks at Morgan and says with sniffels: "Thanks. It's been 12 years. I'm not giving up hope but...."

Fox looks over at Zoshonel and says: "I'll be as fne as I can be. Its hard to cope sometimes."

He looks back at Morgan and smiles and says: "I can symphasize (spelling?) with you."

"I can't," mutters Joanne almost darkly. "My parents were pretty good for a while, considerin' Mum had some strange problems an' we were working class. It wasn't total poverty or nothin'. Problem is...when the economy tanked, so did we. An' that was also when they found out their sweet normal Joanne wasn' so normal. So I had ta leave the house. I think I could've gone back if I really wanted to, but I felt hurt. So I asked my friends ta take care of me for a while. An' they did, best we could. But I think I killed a lot of folks...would've either been in the grave or the prison eventually. Maybe people who come here have family problems, a lot of 'em. When they ain't Yeerks."
