"I never asked you to do anything about my sister," Terenia says softly, "nor would I want you to. What happened to her is my fault, and I will fix it. Someday. In the meantime, I must remain as close to her as I can. Even if it means being the pet of the Abomination."

Corliss nods.  "Well.  If you ever find yourself in need of assistance, the Bar is the place to come to.  And if you ever find yourself completely cut off from Yeerk society, we can help you."

"Thanks," Terenia smiles wryly, "but I think I'm through with the whole switching sides business. I tried fighting for the humans, and I was beaten down. I tried to fight alongside the Andalites, and I was deceived and used. At least when I work for the Empire I know what I'm getting. Visser Three, evil as he is, has never lied to me." She chuckles softly, "Nope, he's always been quite clear about where I stand and what he intends on doing to...with...me."

She glances towards the door, where Claxter had recently exited the bar. "Besides, like I said earlier, maybe some people just don't deserve freedom. Maybe some races don't."

Cavan managed to get to his feet from the ground. He refused to die on his backside. In the back of his mind, he knew he deserved what was coming to him.

"I expect I'll be seeing you later," Cavan said.

"At least you'll be there first," Morgan replied, and pulled the trigger.

With the deed done, Parker didn't have to play bouncer anymore. He dropped his guard and placed a gauntlet on Morgan's shoulder. He left it there for a moment, patted him once and went back into the bar.

Corliss looks down at the bar counter.  "I don't agree.  I think every race deserves freedom, some just aren't wise enough to know what to do with it.  Goes without saying that some people are the same way.  Maybe Hitler shouldn't have been free to do what he did to his fellow humans."

He glances at the doorway at the sound of gunfire, then turns back to the bar.

Parker sits down next to Raksha and sits in silence. Finally breaking the silence, he says, "Sorry you had to see that."

Terenia flinches slightly when the gun goes off, but otherwise does not react. She also ignores Parker's re-entrance into the bar, choosing to shake her drink lightly, allowing the ice to clink.

"Agree to disagree, I suppose," Terenia says with a sigh, "maybe some humans deserve freedom. Maybe. But humanity has committed more evil deeds in their history than the Yeerks and the Andalites combined. And I have yet to meet an Andalite who isn't arrogant, brainwashed and egocentric," she wrinkles her nose, "maybe they don't mean to be, but they are."

Morgan sighed as he put the gun away. He rolled up his sleeves and buried the body.

When he was done he went back to the bar, started to pick up his glass of rum. After he had picked it up, Morgan slammed down his glass and put his face in his hands to the best of his ability.

"I can't disagree with you on all of that," says Corliss, "except the fact that I believe humans deserve the right to be what they are.  You of all people should know what the Empire intends to do to Earth and to humanity.  It would effectively be cultural and ecological extinction.  I don't reckon we have any right to dictate the fate of a race, by taking it over.  If humans want to destroy each other, that's their prerogative.  I intend to help them do it themselves, if they absolutely must, but as free people."

Terenia nods as if she agrees, "I do know what they intend to do to Earth, but Earth is not my problem. This war is not my problem. The only thing I am concerned with right now is self-preservation. If that means riding the coat tails of the very Yeerk trying to destroy Earth, I'll do it. If that means killing my brother to save him from his fate, I'll do it. If it means living with an Andalite in my head, shouting empty threats, I'll do it. I need to take whatever advantage I can get." She takes a deep drink, finishing off her glass, and pushes it back towards the bar.

"I would think you of all people could understand self-preservation."

Corliss laughs.  "I certainly do understand the value of self-preservation," he says, smiling.  "But I'm involved in a war that is my problem, simply because of the nature of the position I've put myself in, within it.  I've made Earth my problem.  I've made destroying and reorganizing our corrupt government my problem.  Believe me, I'd much rather retire someplace on the Isle of Wight, and not have to pick up a gun again."  He narrows his eyes.  "Your Andalite host is involuntary, I presume?"

Terenia shoots him an almost sarcastic look, as if that question was nothing short of frivolous.

"How many Andalites you know that would choose to be controlled be a Yeerk?" She responds rhetorically.

Corliss shrugs.  "Permanently?  Not many.  Even my Andalite friends would probably balk at the idea.  We can't even get the Andalites to work with us, long distance."

Terenia barks a harsh laugh, "Yeah, I can't imagine that they would enjoy working with you. Long or short distance...or very short distance, if you catch my drift."

She shrugs, "I actually had a voluntary host, once. My closest friend. She...saved me after I was stuck in Yeerk form. She stayed with me, until I realized that I had to leave the Andalites. Then I used her body to obtain this one, and left that life behind. I...regret it, to an extent. If nothing else, it was a lot calmer up here -" she taps her head "-when I was in control of someone who didn't mind as much."
