"How about we all calm down, and let Mr Everett speak for himself?" Corliss replies. "Typically humans must be alive in order to explain themselves." He looks up at Mike.
"Wot, issat my cue, then?" Mike says, smirking. He walks over to Cavan's body and sits down, bringing him in for a sideways hug.
"Ow, that's his neck," Corliss says, while their ears press together.
<Goodbye, Cavan,> says the Yeerk as he disengages from Cavan's mind. <I am sorry to have to do this to you.>
He slithers back into Mike's head. About halfway through, one of them removes Mike's arm from around Cavan's tied-up body, pushing away from the bounty hunter. Half of Corliss is still making its way into Mike's head. In a few minutes Corliss stares back out at everyone through Mike's eyes, and he climbs to his feet, taking in everything else Mike had seen during Corliss' time in the pool.
He sits down in the nearest wooden chair, at a table. "Visser Three?" he asks skeptically, looking up at Terenia, unable to delay the question out of shock. "Why would anyone in his right mind want to work for Visser Three? I suppose he's got you stymied. You have no choice."
Corliss looks over at Cavan, making sure he's still securely tied, out of sheer paranoia.
