(Dang it! Everything happened so fat. I would have had Claxter prevent that. Now I'll have to catch up on posts and have him respond accordingly)

<That, Cavan,> says Corliss, <is all a matter of perspective.>

"Asda, the pain should start to go away in a few seconds," says Corliss reassuringly.  "You might feel a bit sleepy, but try to stay awake, okay?  Stay with us, here.  Can you feel this?"  He takes a small black device that almost looks like a thin wire brush, and places it against the side of Asda's stomach.  He gently presses on it, taking the sterilized pincers in another hand.

On the bioscan hovering above Asda's stomach, the nerves around the black device light up like a huge blue fractal, then change to purple.

((It's okay, Claxter can just have been too stunned to react, and he can still do whatever you want to make him do :P ))

(Try to prevent the investation.)

<This is wrong.> Claxter said. It had happened so fast he didn't have time to intervene. <You have infested a possibly law abiding citizen. I should not find this acceptable.> He scuffed his foot and paced as Corliss used the man to tend to the woman's wounds. <What is the meaning of all this, anyway? Has Asda and Morgan committed some crime?>

He didn't want to stop anyone from giving Asda treatment, but he was repulsed by someone casually having someone infested like that.

"I'll try," Asda said. After a second she said, "No...am I supposed to?"

Morgan had knelt down and had rested Asda's head on his lap.

"You're gonna be just find, Doc," Morgan said reassuringly. "Keep talkin to us."

"Have they done anything wrong?" Cavan yelled in his mind. "They're pirates, you fool! Fugitives from justice! Those two would be better off dead. I didn't shoot fast enough. I should have shot Morgan first."

Parker became wary of Claxter, and placed himself directly behind Corliss.

Fox continued to look at the shooter and memories of his father came through and Fox was trying to conrol it. His hands were clunched to make fists then he would release them trying to control his emotions. Fox looked down at his father's dogtags.

Mike looks at Parker, then at Keshin and Joanne.  "No, we should be fine.  For now.  Thank you though, Parker."

Corliss is too entrenched in his work, putting on sterile gloves, to reply to Claxter, so Mike continues, "Listen, Andalite, what's wrong is that this bloke just came in 'ere and shot a friend of ours.  Corliss knows more than I do about fixing people up, and I reckon this bounty hunter does, too.  If we don't help 'er she's going to die, without so much as a trial or a list of offences.  And that's bloody wrong."

"No, Asda, you're doing splendidly," says Corliss, a bit of his former host's British lilt coming back.  "The medicine is a Yeerkish analgesic and general anesthetic, it's going to make you not care much about what I'm about to do."

Corliss ignores Cavan and cautiously, carefully pushes the blood away from Asda's stomach wound, letting the bioscan guide the pincers into the doctor's abdomen muscles.  Blood oozes out of the wound, and he focuses on the scan, which shows much more clearly where the metal ends and where living flesh begins.  He barely realizes how much he's sweating.

<I mean I know it's probably too late to negotiate and get a clear view of both sides when someone has been shot.> Claxter continued saying.

"Especially when it's the only doctor in the area. Why did it have to be Asda? And they're decent people. I mean I've known them more than five minutes, and they and their friends are pretty civilized. You know, for pirates." Zoshonel said. He was restless too.

<Oh, they're pirates? So this guy is probably a law enforcer. That's great!> he said sarcastically.

"Shades of gray, friend."

<Yes, but casually infesting him like it's no big deal? What am I fighting for, here, if this is to be acceptable?>

"Um...desparate times call for desparate measures? I mean really, she's the only doctor I know of on this rock."

Claxter continued pacing.

(Edit: A while back I turned off the thing that warns me if a post is made before I finish posting, so if I miss something, then that's probably why.)

Parker could sense Claxter's internal battle intensifying, "Look, I know you're against infesting others, would it be better if Corliss said he'd leave him and return to Mike?"

"God, Claxter, it's not like Corliss is killing 'im," Mike says hotly.  "It might be our best chance of saving Asda, and I'm tired of semantics and blatant racism.  So shut it, will ya?"

Corliss keeps working through the wound, biting his lip.

<Might as well let him finish what he's doing, and then leave. You need to exibit more tact the next time you enter a crowded area with a firearm.>

"He doesn't think he's dead," Corliss says flatly, becoming annoyed.  He focuses on the scan.  "Almost there, Asda, you're doing fab."

He grips the bullet slug and carefully pulls it back out, setting it into the sterile tray.  "Put pressure on that wound, Morgan," Corliss asks quietly, pausing to wipe his forehead with his jacket sleeve.  "Vitals are coming back up.  She's very lucky, the bullet just missed her pyloric sphincter, at the base of her stomach."  He sets the metal pincers down and sheds one of the bloody latex gloves, grabbing his ship's familiar black glue gun device.  He cleans the wound with his gloved hand, and sets the putty gun over the gushing opening.

Greyish, oatmealy stuff melts out of the end of the device, sizzling and smoking disconcertingly.  It cleans the wound and seals it temporarily, so it can heal.  On top of the putty he places a wide strip of gauze, which he tapes onto Asda's stomach.

"It might take a while for her to snap out of the daze, and she'll need antibiotics," says Corliss, eyes tracking again.  "There was no poison in the slug, just a standard bullet."  He exhales and sits back on the floor, leaning against a chair leg, exhausted.  "Well, that was fun, wannit?"  He makes an attempt to smile.
