<Hah. Good ol bar. > Alic was a little shocked at Terenia. Either she had done quite a bit of studying on human culture or perhaps she had spent some time with them herself. She had never met another andalite who knew, well, anything about humans.

<Star Wars conventions aren't as creative as to what kind of aliens show up here.> Alic didn't care before where Terenia came from, now she was curious.

Terenia glanced at Alic in surprise, giving her the benefit of the attention of both main eyes. She too had never come across any Andalite with knowledge of human culture. <No, I suppose they aren't...> Terenia says cautiously, instantly suspicious. She felt foolish for making such a casual, obviously human reference.

Parker was shocked at the age of these alien's Earth knowledge. "What year is it on Earth where you've visited? Star Wars, Star Trek? I feel like I'm in archives here."

Corliss smirks at the bar counter and shakes his head, listening to the conversation.  When he finally speaks it's his host doing the talking, in a somewhat more pronounced British scouse accent.  "Look, you lot can argue all you want about 'ow in the bloody 'ell you know about Star Trek or Star Wars.  Point is, Star Wars always wins, 'ands down, then, eh?"  He narrows his eyes at Terenia.  "The both of you, honestly, it makes me reckon you've gone to bleeding human pop culture boot camp.  Alic, I know where she's from, she's straight on.  Who is this Terenia when she's at 'ome, eh?  Reckon you've spent more than a few hours on Earth, or at least have some very close human friends.  I should know, I am one, and you sound like you're from...whassit...Io wa or Ohio or something right proper and American-like, yeah?"

<I uh...> Terenia hesitated. Somehow in the span of five minutes she had managed to back herself into the very corner she tended to avoid. Surrounded by both Andalites and Yeerks, this could go very badly for her very quickly. With that in mind, she decided that lying may just make things worse in the long run. <I lived in Minnesota for about eleven years.>

"Minnesota?" Michael Leicester echoes, laughing.  "Y'don't sound like the people in that movie.  Now 'ow'd an Andalite end up living in Minnesota for eleven years?  You're human, aren't yeh?" He squints.  "'ow'd a human become a bleeding Andalite nothlit?  Or am I very wrong?"

Terenia stares at Corliss/Michael with all four eyes, in relative shock. Either he knows exactly who she is, in which case she very well might be a dead alien walking, or he could simply be rather intuitive. <I...it's a long story.> She says softly, not wanting to delve into the messy details.

Alic was looking at Terenia in astonishment. She too had spent some time on Earth, not nearly as long, but to her it meant something. She had something in common with another andalite she didn't think anyone else shared.
<I spent about 5 to 6 years, travelled all over the U.S.. Mostly down in California to keep an eye on a few things.> Terenia had opened up, so Alic decided to offer her name, and a handshake. <My name is Aliciania. My friends call me Alic.>
She ****ed her head thoughtfully. <I was in a kickboxing tournament in Brooklyn Center in Minnesota once.. I didn't win though.> Alic shrugged, a very un-andalite gesture. <But that's how I spent most of my time with the humans... If you don't mind my asking, why were you there?>

Alic listened to Corliss.. but no.. Humans couldn't be morphing. She was no doubt an Andalite. A strange one for being away from her people for so long... but then again so had Alic.

Corliss, sensing another biting remark, is the one who replies.  "Fair enough.  There's lots about both of us that scads of people would likely want to know about.  I won't hold silence against you.  This can be a very friendly place, but it can be a deadly one as well.  I think you can consider us a friend, but just...be careful."  He glances down at the bar, not wanting to see if Joanne was listening, and almost too afraid to.  "I daresay you're unique, I'll tell you that."  He listens to Alic, smiling.  "See, Alic I know has been on Earth, but I know her far too well.  I know her background.  You, no.  Reckon I'm right about you.  Call it a hunch.  Call it good judge of character.  I'm quite humanized, myself, for a nasty old slug."  He giggles, clearly giddy about his little theory, and its novelty if it's true.  Finally, an Andalite who really and truly was human, not just a well-meaning enthusiast; and perhaps an ally.

Terenia listens to Corliss and Alic both, torn by their reactions. Both seem friendly enough, but she knows that Corliss' warning was given in good faith. There were few places in the galaxy that weren't dangerous these days, even the seemingly friendly ones. <I appreciate the gesture. The not-holding-it-against me bit and all.> Glancing at Parker, she adds, <I doubt you'll find me referencing anything later than the end of the twentieth century, and even then nothing too interesting. I was quite young when I left Earth...>

To Alic, she adds, <I visited California once. I don't remember much of it, except the weather. It was beautiful.>

Corliss nods.  "Well, last time my host lived a normal live on Earth was 1994.  That was nine years ago, where we come from.  So expect loads of Nirvana jokes.  We do try to keep up, though.  As Mike's career got running, under my control of course, we became really good at public relations for a certain very skilled front organization.  That sent us to California quite a bit.  Mainly the Santa Barbara area.  It's very pretty."  He shakes his head.  "The Sharing still has a grip on a lot of communities.  More and more countries, too, seems like every day.  Even our allies in the Peace Movement can't spread themselves that thin."

Terenia scowls at the mention of the undercover Yeerk organization. <Yes, I am quite aware of how effectively The Sharing is able to work. You were in public relations with them?> She tries to keep her thought-speak relaxed, but there is an inescapable tension when she speaks of The Sharing.

Alic decided not to push the topic further. Could Corliss be right? A human? Well, she would eventually find out so she might as well just be patient. If she really wasn't an andalite, then they didn't really have that much in common as she thought. Alic tried not to think about the possibilities.
<Hmmm California..> Alic sighed, she almost wished she did go back to Earth when she had the chance. The smell of the ocean, warm sand between her toes.. But no. That was the past, and she could not go back purely for pleasure.

He nods again.  "Yeah, for a number of years I was high up in the ranks of advertising management in the UK.  I couldn't tell you how many lonely, desperate people we took advantage of.  Alcoholics, loners, popular, rich, poor, gay, straight, all religions and ethnicities...didn't matter.  Humans crave belonging and community and support, and they'll give up anything, buy completely into things they don't even fully understand just to let someone else take control.  God.  A higher power.  A race of megalomaniacal alien parasites."  He scoffs bitterly, tapping his fingernails on the scratched up bar counter.  "Needless to say...I needed a career change.  And I'm sorry that decision came too late for my human friend.  I've only uprooted his entire life because of my moral and emotional instability."

<Reckon I forgive you.>

He pauses, smiling a bit.  "He says that's okay.  The lesser of the two evils, I suppose."  He asks quietly, "You know all about this sort of thing from experience, yeah?"

<A bit,> Terenia sad, her eyes growing dark, <I never had any direct affiliation or knowledge of The Sharing until after I left Earth, but they still managed to have...quite a significant affect on my life.>

Terenia falls silent and stares past Corliss with her main eyes, focusing on the bar, or on something else entirely.
