"Many people are that way, from any race," says Myitt coolly.  "But there are those who act with compassion in every race I've come across, even if the outcome isn't in their best interest.  It's called altruism.  And boy, sometimes it really sucks."

She glances at Breekan.  "Okay.  Here's how it works.  The two halves of the human brain can be separated at the stretch of neurons that binds them together, and still function.  Parts or even a whole half of the brain can also be removed, but just going in there and cutting around will cause damage.  Everything on one side of the human brain cooperates with the other side.  If you remove half of a human brain, personality and the ability to walk can be just fine, but you do suffer the unfortunate side effect of losing the function of the arm and vision in the side of the body opposite to the half that was removed.  Speech can be screwed up if you take out the left hemisphere.  If you sever the bridge between the halves, the corpus callosum, then someone can show you a pencil--that's a human writing tool, Breek--in your right hand using only your right eye, and you can name it as a "pencil"--but not know what it does.  If you show the same pencil to your left eye and left hand, you'll know it's a writing tool and how to use it, but not what it's called.  Humans have done an astonishing amount of poking around trying to learn about their own brains, but a lot of it is really butchery when you get right down to it."  She pauses, considering.  "I wonder what it would be like to infest half a human brain?  Probably not very comfortable for anyone involved.  Might not even be possible."

"That is some freaky stuff right there. Hork-Bajir brains have considerably more simple structure. That seems pretty interesting, though I suppose none of the humans here would jump at letting me poke around in their head. at least not for a price that I would be comfortable paying for the experience."

(So when are we going to start the Earth thread? and what will it be called?)

Myitt shrugs, grinning.  "Tara might let you."

<Oh, come on, what am I?  The village bicycle?>

((I guess we'll start it once those of us who want to post here that their characters are leaving for Earth.  I, for one, am still having a couple conversations x3  So we'll see.))

"Actually, it might be best if I wait until I'm on Earth to do it. If I can find a suitable Human there, I can spend a larger amount of time in him. Now that the fighting has mostly cooled down, I think it should be safe enough to take Ardiss and Christine to my ship and head for Earth. I know Ardiss has been waiting a good bit for this, so I should start getting preparations underway."

Mar glances at Myitt and asks casually, "Are you coming with him? If so...then I will follow you, but not in this fashion. My appearance may be acceptable here at the Bar, but on Earth they would mistake me for an early Halloween trick-or-treater."

Mar chuckles at this thought and brushes back his hair. "Or possibly a very talented and rich anime enthusiast. I've been to Earth recently and seen that sort of thing happening. What absolute madness."

((I've always wanted to cosplay. :3 Another one of my characters will take Mar's place if he leaves in non-corporeal form to follow. ^^ ))

Myitt grins.  "That's okay, Mar, I'll just look like a homeless goth kid.  I'll have to check with Corliss, but I'd be interested in visiting Earth.  We just have to keep a low profile, of course."  She looks over at Conner.  "And I'd like to see if this kid can find his way back to Kansas.  Or Minnesota, wherever."

Gaz made a face. "If there's anyone heading back to Earth, I'll pass. As you can imagine, I don't think I'd be very welcome."

((Wow, this is really a slow post day or something. o__O; Then again, it is the day before Thanksgiving. Happy Turkey Day everybody! :D ))

Mar gives Gaz a glance and states, "I think they are heading for Myitt's Earth. Not whatever place you hail from, pirate. However, as with me your clothes would stand out quite a bit. My precious should do fine...with a bit of supervision. She tends to end up in the most dangerous possible scenario somehow." Although...I didn't say that I would protect her. I just said I wouldn't interfere.

Mar then turns to Ossanlin and sends a private thought to him. <<You know why I must worry about Myitt. If she leaves, I will be following her out of the Bar. If for some reason I can't manage to dissipate this form while I am in it, I leave it to you to dispose of the body. I have been inside your mind, and have helped to save Precious with you.>>

Gaz nodded. "I see, the Earth she's from. Well, then I may still pass. Nothing of value for me there."

The pirate captain takes another sip of rum.

Breekan raises a hand. "Any chance I could tag? The only person I know who's psychologically human is Tara, and I can never tell if I'm talking to her or Myitt... No offense." He offers an awkward smile. "I want to see how these people orient an entire society."

((Wow Tara, I was totally gonna use the pencil example for the severance of the corpus callosum.  Creepy.  We must've read the same text book or something. XD  Or maybe that's just the example every text book uses.  Learned about that in psych...but basic animal physiology is the only class that has let me probe and poke at a real corpus callosum.  Pig of course.  :p  It's my favorite course so far.  I love digging around in brains and innards.  XD ))

Ossanlin turns a stalk-eye to gaze at Mar.  <<I see.  I know you are more than this form, perhaps I'm better equipped to know that many people here but I'm afraid I still have identified yourself with this form.  I will accede to your wishes of course, a high-level shredder blast will completely vaporize physical matter...well, most physical matter, certainly the physical matter that is contained in your body.  It will not be easy even though I know that this is merely a facet of yourself.  Certainly you could follow on a ship, or even ride the same ship as Myitt.  Clothing is a simple matter.  You may have generated the clothes on you currently, but that doesn't mean you can't take them off and don other clothing that is more appropriate.  I will leave it to you.>>

((I would totally do Cosplay for a con if I had...         A. The money to buy or the skill to make a costume,          B. Any cons anywhere near my home,    and     C. The body to actually pull off an accurate costume.  Let's face it, not many obese people in anime, certainly not hero chars.  If I was thinner I would totally try to pull off Sephiroth.  I already have a replica of his Masamune dai-katana from Advent Children.  It's so much better than the ones available based off of FFVII.  It's nearly full-tang and it's huge...over five feet long, sharpened and battle-ready.  :D ))

"Excuse me?" Myitt snaps at Mar.  "I'm capable of doing just fine without a babysitter, thank you.  Why do you insist on following me around?  And I'm not your precious!"

<Yes you are, precioussss...>

<You're not helping!>

Myitt sighs, exasperated.  "Of course you can come, Breek...I know, I know, we're confusing...let me just check with Corliss, okay?  He might still need some time with the Skimmer."  She pulls out her link.  "Corliss, can you get in here, please?"

Static.  "Sure, wait a tic."

She looks over at Gaz.  "It'd be cool to have you come along, too, Gaz.  Everybody on Earth likes pirates these days, it's not a big deal.  Might want to lose the hat, otherwise you'll be fine."

((Haha Luke...bio nerds unite :P  I took comparative vertebrate anatomy and intro bio which both had us dig through organs and brains and such...thought I wouldn't be able to do the cat o.O But CVA ended up being one of my faves.))
