"I think that would depend," says Myitt. "It could easily become a segregated mess on a planet comprised entirely of Yeerk nothlits of one or more species, or conversely, it could work quite well. That all depends on the willingness of the participants, and the ability and compassion of the society's leadership to govern and advise its citizens, naturally. In other words, something better than what we've got now." She glances at Mar. "If anything, it might breed further conflict rather than absolve it completely."
She sighs, exasperated. "Of course we don't have the authority to wipe out the genetic and cultural history of any race, that's an enormous part of why I don't really like the Yeerk Empire, itself. It regularly attempts to reduce alien races to cultural and natural genetic stagnation. However, keep in mind that I really can't foresee all Yeerks choosing this morphing option, or having it forced upon them. There are millions of Yeerks on the homeworld, I doubt the Andalites would grant all of them the morphing power and oversee all of them becoming stuck in a morphed body. There would be too great a risk for someone, somewhere, to use that power to his advantage. And not all Yeerks would want it. There are many Yeerks who have never taken a host, let alone morph another body completely, and despite the pressures of our society some of us simply will never want to.
"As Temrash has said, Thordon, the idea of creating suitable artificial hosts isn't new. But due to our government's obsession with conquest, it's never gained enough favor, and resources for such research have been diverted toward the war effort. Some individuals within host species, such as Temrash's host, Shal's back in the day, and mine and Corliss', have certainly agreed to our shared control in a more mutual, enjoyable environment for both the Yeerk and the host body."
<Speak for yourself,> jokes Tara dryly.
"I doubt an entire species would invite Yeerk infestation, unless there were some real benefit, such as with the Taxxons; even they have rebels among them. Maybe someday we can figure a way to engineer a species that would be a true biological symbiote, or to make an agreement with an entire host species that would be much less one sided. But that is also what my subfaction of Yeerks fights for, as my friends are already aware. We are part of a rebellion in a civil war that disagrees with encroaching upon others' lives, as much as we can. We disagree with the Empire's policy of mandatory, involuntary infestation."
She grins a bit. "Wow, we've really gone over some deep social mores, haven't we?"
