What if she introduced Ax a little differently?
« on: January 10, 2009, 07:38:27 PM »
What if instead of calling for help and waiting to be rescued, Ax used his shark morph and left on his own? How do you think he'd fair without any guidance from the animorphs? What if he was less willing to join the group, and spent books 4-8 trying to defeat the Yeerks on his own? Possibly trying to take down the pool by himself, or something. We know that much of the ceiling of the pool was held up by forcefields early in the series. I once came up with the idea of finding a generator within the complex, and destroying it to shut down the forcefields holding the place up.

In MM4, he found his way to a parked bladeship on the mall. I forget why the bladeship was parked there, but the way it played out for him in MM4 likely wouldn't happen in a timeline where the animorphs actively resisted the Yeerks.

If you were going to do it differently, how would you do it?

Well, he wouldn't be considered a vigilante by his people. But he would try to do what he could, while attempting to not seek help from another species. Up until he realised it was impossible, and would join the animorphs.

The idea is good and it might have worked with some Andalites, but Ax isn't a typical arrogant Andalite, he'd realise that he couldn't fight the Yeerks on his own and his people have no laws against him helping the Animorphs (unless he breaks the law of Seerow's Kindness).

Ax was very young too...

You think AX isn't arrogant? Surely not as arrogant as some, but it's still there.

This is just hypothetical anyway. Something new to talk about.

Ax was a little bit arrogant, but not overly arrogant like the other Andalites we met.

The arrogance wasn't present in Elfangor or Arbron. Maybe they started messing with the Andalite school system afterwords. Ax claims he has pride for his people, but he also says that it is just him and not his culture.

*Sigh* Okay. Let's pretend he was arrogant. Just to keep this thread on track and hope it goes somewhere.

What do you think the other animorphss would think of some kid going nuts around the food court, then demorphing when the mall cops tried to grab him?

We already know what happens then, don't we?

In Megamorphs 4, Ax isn't rescued by the Animorphs, remember? So he alerts the humans via TV?

I think he would probably hear the word "Andalite Bandit" when he first tried to attack the pool. Thinking that maybe there were some Andalites who were either unable to answer his call or simply had reached the dome too late, he may attempt to find them, rather than still attacking the pool, especially if he was hoping for a prince to follow.
But how would he find the pool in the first place? Let's face it, asking for a Happy Meal with "Extra Happy" wouldn't go off in Ax's head as odd or weird. And it's not like they really announced their presence. Him simply deciding that the Sharing was his best option would be ridiculous unless the Andalites had intercepted communications about the Sharing--including name.
If anything, he'd probably join to "better learn human interaction" and end up a Controller.
Just a thought. Or six.
