((this is set in Animorphs universe and deals with the war in a completely different area of the galaxy))

Chapter 1
From humble origins

Roswell, New Mexico: 1947

A Ford staff car drove up to the gates of the Roswell Army Air Field and stopped at the barrier. “I need to see some ID please,” said the sergeant on duty at the gate. “Here you go son” replied Major Anderson handing over his ID card.
“Sir, I'm instructed to inform you that once you are on base you won't be allowed off,” said the sergeant.
“I understand, Sergeant, carry on,” replied Anderson.
“Yes, sir.”
With that, the sergeant handed back Anderson's ID card and raised the barrier pole, granting him access to the base. Anderson parked next to the base operations building and went inside. There he met the air field commander, Colonel Bergman. “Colonel,” Anderson spoke while saluting the senior officer.
“Anderson there has been a crash outside Roswell.”
“Which crew went down?”
“It wasn't one of the 509th's B-29's, it was something....differ ent.”
“Different, how sir? And why did you call me in, I'm not the junior major here.”
“Anderson, please, keep your questions on hold. I sent for you because of your time spent with Sir Frank and your work with the captured Nazi war documents. You have the best scientific mind here.”
“Yes, sir.”
They walked over to a covered hangar were there was a perimeter of MP's, with Grease Guns rather than the usual revolvers. “This must really be something, Colonel,” Anderson spoke. “It is,” replied Bergman.
They approached the side down of the hangar where two MP's stood, guarding it. “I'll need to see both your ID's, sir,” stated the PFC on guard duty that night. He proceeded to examine them “Thank you, sir. You may pass.” He then opened the door. What inside struck Anderson speechless. “Colonel.......that's not American. Is this some advanced German prototype we shipped over?”
“No, Major” Bergman replied “this is a bona-fide alien aircraft.”

Chapter 2
To the Stars

“Colonel Bergman, what do you want me to do with this aircraft?” asked Anderson.
“Major, you are to study this, obtain whatever technology that is within it and see if you can get it working again. We need everyone advantage we can to wipe those commy bastards off the face of the Earth if war flares up.”
“Yes, sir I'll begin at once.”

As the days and weeks went by Anderson and his team of two Lieutenants finally began to understand this alien craft. It was blue, and looked like an oval except for its rear which rose like a scorpion tail. It had a computer system far, far more advanced than even the cutting edge crypto computers being developed at Pennsylvania. How they discovered the secrets of this craft were purely accidental.

Lieutenant Foster had been working on what appeared to be the computer console trying to find out where to connect a power cable. He had been trying for hours to find some way of getting it to work. Nothing seemed to be working and he muttered. “*****, ****, piece of **** computer TURN ON!”
A thought-speak voice spoke to him <Model 12-A Computer Activated> “What?” He said “I just heard a voice.......in my head. This is messed up.” Then he realized what he said. “I said 'computer turn on' and it turned on,” he thought “maybe it only responds to 'computer [command],” he thought. He spoke “Computer why is this voice inside my head?” <Model 12-A Computer gives data in thought-speech per standard protocol> it replied. Foster had heard enough. He yelled “Major Anderson! I've cracked it, the computer is working!”

Anderson hurried over to where Foster was standing. “What is it Foster?” he spoke. “Computer give me a rundown of what you are,” Foster said.
<This is a Model 12-A Computer on Fighter 0-5467 launched from the dome ship Wind Lake and currently on planet X-8924. I control everything aboard this ship from navigation to weapons to engines. I interface with two warriors or arisths at the pilot and weapon stations.>
“What is this voice in my head?” asked Anderson.
“It's how this computer communicates apparently,” answered Foster. “You also have to say 'Computer [command] in order to work with it.”
“Computer, what is an aristh?” queried Anderson.
<An aristh is a young Andalite fresh out of training who has not yet been promoted to warrior.> stated the computer.
“Computer, what is an Andalite?” asked Foster.
<An Andalite is what created this ship and inhabits the Andalite Home World.>
“Foster, your new orders are to debrief this computer and get every nugget of information out of it you can. See also what it will take to get it flying, I think we should make contact and try to get their help in the fight against the Soviets.”

It took a couple of weeks but after using the Model 12-A's computer to run simulations of piloting and weapons both Foster and Anderson felt good about flying the craft. Anderson requested that himself and Foster be allowed to fly the ship and make contact with the Andalites. “Anderson” Bergman began “I will grant your request. Don't have delusions of grandeur. Your mission is make contact and get back alive with this ship. Don't get yourself killed or get Earth invaded.”
“Yes, sir.” replied Anderson.
“Good, and make sure you have plenty of provisions loaded.”
“Sir, the computer calculates that it will take a week to reach their home world using a travel corridor it calls “Z-space”. The ship has more than enough fuel to make a round trip there and back.”
“Go get what C-Rations and equipment you need from the Quartermaster, Anderson. I'll call ahead and let him know it's all on my authority.”
“Yes, sir.”

As the Model 12-A lifted out of Earth's atmosphere Anderson made the fateful decision. “Were they headed for certain doom? Or humanity's salvation?” he thought. He put those thoughts aside as he had committed himself to the mission, there was no turning back. “Computer set a course for the Andalite Home World and make the Z-Space Jump.”

<5......4......3.... .....2............. .1.......Jumping>

Chapter 3
First Contact

It has been 7 days since we exited Earth's atmosphere. Our computer indicates we will be exiting Z-space in approximately 6 hours. There has been nothing to report. Foster signing off.

The Model 12-A exited Z-space rather abruptly, but rather than Foster and Anderson pitching forward, it felt more like a car gradually braking for an off ramp. In the distance there was a blue planet, like Earth, but it had 4 moons rather than 1. Anderson spoke “Computer open up all radio frequencies, transmit the following message 'This is Major Anderson of the United States Air Force calling any Andalite craft, over.'”
<Transmitting>
<Major Anderson this is War Prince Artuum, what are you and what are you doing here.>
“Transmit: this is a Model 12-A recovered on the planet Earth and seeking to contact the Andalites, over.>
<Major Anderson say again your fighter model and serial number.>
“Computer transmit our identification information.”
<This fighter is a Model 12-A 0-5467 from the Dome Ship Wind Lake, War Prince Artuum. Cargo is two adult human males, names Major Anderson and Lieutenant Foster.>
<0-5467 is reported lost, unknown location. Why are you flying it?>
“Transmit: this craft was recovered crashed on the planet Earth, one deceased body later identified as an Andalite adult was recovered. Request a landing vector.”
<0-5467 proceed on a vector to the Dome Ship Ulian Plains, you will be escorted there.>
“Transmit: roger, War Prince Artuum vectoring to Ulian Plains.>

The little fighter flew towards what must be a Dome Ship. It looked like a rocket, except at the top there was a giant dome, giving the ship an appearance like a giant mushroom. It didn't look that fierce, but Anderson was not willing to risk anything. Especially not with 4 fighters flying formation next to him in complete radio silence.

Anderson let the computer dock the fighter into the Ulian Plains' docking bay. There he was met by an older Andalite who lead a detachment of smaller Andalites . <I am War Prince Artuum> “it” <Are you Major Anderson?>
Anderson stepped out and saluted Artuum “Major Anderson, United States Air Force, reporting with a detachment of two, sir.”
<What is that gesture Major Anderson?> Artuum replied while the other Andalites stiffened slightly.
“It's a salute sir, it's a gesture of respect using by members of the military.”
<Major Anderson, Warrior Khaldras will lead you to quarters. They are designed for Andalites but they will have to do.>
“Not a problem, sir, we have bedding in the fighter.” He then yelled “Foster! Get the bivouac items and some C-rats! Then follow me!”
“Yes, sir!” he replied and hustled out carrying 2 folding cots, GI blankets and a case of C-rations. They had been put in small quarters, enough room for the two cots but not much other than that. At least the heads were similar, Anderson observed but sleep soon overtook him.

It's got a priority like many things in my life "I'll get around to it when I feel like it". Could be tomorrow, could be a long.
