RAFchat suggestion
« on: December 09, 2008, 10:56:57 PM »
Ok, so tonight (Tuesday, Dec 9th) we had a bit of an issue. See, a member brought in a non-RAF member to chat with us. However, we found him rather rude, and we were thusly forced to relocate to the Animorphs board of RAFchat.
So, we were talking, and another member (who is not me, but shall remain nameless for now) suggested a few rules for RAFchat:

I think we should have some sort of rule, that random people can't pop in the RAFchat unless they're either:
A. Polite
B. Like Animorphs
Or
C. Both

I'd like to add a preference that they also at least join RAF to access RAFchat, because that generally means they're serious about Animorphs if they took the time to sign-up.

Sorry, it's kinda hard to get the full story when all you have is a snipit, ok? But we should seriously consider precautions like this for the future. I'm sorry, but I personally don't want a repeat, even if it was an accident.

the chat has impolite and sexual conversations all the time, not to mention the fact that all words are uncensored.

Yes, but we've come to expect out of each other. It just seemed like an invasion, at least in my opinion.
And it's not like we're particularly mad at you, we'd just like limited access or something on RAFchat to prevent further accidents.

wait, how'd he find out about the site in the first place? ???
anyways i'm not saying you did anything wrong, it's just that maybe a limit would be good (as traycon said)

Ok, seriously, do you not understand how to read the word "Sorry"?! I said it a few posts ago, after I heard your story, plus the fact that I said we're not necessarily blaming you. We didn't know it was an accident. But maybe people wouldn't be so sore about it if you had explained this when he first showed up! Instead of both of you sitting with your thumbs up your ***es and not even explaining at least a little that he was just a guy from work, not a RAFian, or that he was just on for kicks or whatever.
I get it. He was from RL. I'm ok with IRL friends on the internet. Just...not when the guy's an obvious ***. Ok?

i agree with you there.
if you knew the guy in real life, he probably wouldn't have acted much different on a chat.
if he's rude/inappropriate in RL, then it's safe to guess he's not going to change for a chat with people he doesn't even know.

seems like a big deal over nothing much, though. :P
as long as this doesn't happen again...

know what, i should have accepted your apology and im sorry for that, i got heated. I do accept it, I just feel that everyone isn't apologizing for the right reasons.

I don't think it's possible to enforce subjective criteria like that...But I do agree that there should be some kind of moderator approval required in order to register for the chat.  The mods should check out each person, make sure they are registered on RAF, and make sure they have some posts (i.e. it's not just a newly created account for the sole purpose of registering for chat).  That's how it's done on another community I'm on, and it really helps to cut down on trolling.
