I sometimes listen to music; it depends on where I am (it's usually to drown out all the background noise).  Occasionally, I have to switch to instrumental music because it's too confusing to try to read while litening to lyrics.

A while ago, I discovered a "Music That Reminds You of Animorphs" post on the Fans of the Animorphs LiveJournal, and bought a bunch of songs on Amazon MP3.  Amazon hasn't figured out that I read Animorphs yet, though.  (I also haven't fed any Animorphs books into its recommendation system.  I tried it once, and it completely smothered the recommendations, since there are so many books in the series.)

Yeah, I listen to music while I'm reading, but it has to be the right kind for the mood of the book. And I also listen to music while I'm thinking of ideas for writing, but I can't listen to it while actually writing, because it's too distracting.

Sometimes, really depends on the situation and the music.

Personally, I prefer to have absolute peace and quiet while I'm reading, mainly because I feel that it distracts me and takes me out of the moment of whatever part I'm in. I can still understand and read through the book, but depending on what's going on around me, it can end up spoiling the type of emotion the author is trying to get across to me at that moment. It's one of the things I completely hate to have to lose.

However, saying that, I don't completely mind music when I read. It just has to be something low-key, preferably with no vocals, and in the background where it can simply just melt away if I want to completely focus on what I'm reading.

I sometimes listen to music while reading Animorphs.
For Remnants, I usually listened to (former Nightwish singer) Tarja's album "My Winter Storm" on repeat. The tone of the music actually enhanced several of the books, particularly book 4. "Oasis" would play while the blimp creatures bounded across the water, and "Sing for Me" as one character was slowly drowning. Props to anyone who understands these references.

When I read Animorphs, I usually pretty much block out every other noise, so there's never much point in me listening to music, coz I'd most probably ignore it and not really hear it.

I've found recently that me+reading+music isn't always a good thing. Especially when a car is involved...
However, I've also found that when I don't kill my head-phones, music is kind of a nice background when reading a book. It helps keep my mind on track when I haven't had my daily dosage of caffine and/or meds more than anything else. Though I tend to notice enhancement with music more when I'm watching a movie or a TV show. Which is why no one should ever watch POTC with me, because I have the soundtrack and will sing along with it. Even though it has no words.

The one thing I cannot seem to do is have a TV nearby when I'm reading. Especially not 1776. *Shudders*

Actually, I do sometimes listen to music. I'm kind of a multitasker so when I'm reading, I have to have my music. It happened once that I was listening to Coldplay's Violet Hill when I was reading Andalite Chronicles. I have just gotten that song so I had it on repeat alone in my playlist and I read the book while listening to that song for hours, like 5-6 hours straight. It did have the feeling that I thought was very appropriate to the book, and now whenever I listen to it again the words 'Andalite Chronicles' keep flashing in my head.

Anyway, back to the topic, some people might not like listening to music because they can contrate more that way, others don't mind. So I guess it's a matter of habbit and state.

I'm a terriblr multitasker, and if I listen to music while reading, I always find myself on like page twelve and having no idea what I just read. But when I listen to certain music, I just think Animorphs.

Nope, I try not to listen to music a lot. Only when I'm trying to write or something and I've got total writer's block :P

I'd rather get the emotion of the book from the book, ya know? Just so I can see how well the author wrote out the emotions and junk
