another thing is that they didnt know what he was morphing into, it would be stupid to go rush something that could suddenly spit acid and immediately kill you, you never know when the dangerous parts are gonna finish morphing

also, this ones kinda obvious lol but hes morphing already, so any injuries will just heal lol

dittoing what's already been said, but I also think he may have been quick enough or skilled enough to not be as totally helpless in mid morph.
20 years with a morphing, plus Alloran's own time doing it,that's a lot of practice.
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

I know this is off topic but. Who's Mertil? I remember Cassie mentionign her twice in #50

If I'm thinking of the right person, Mertil is a male Andalite living on Earth without a tail-blade. He is also allergic to the morphing technology and is thus unable to regain the half of his tail that was cut off. It's in book 40ish. The one with Marco morphing the bee. Mertil was originally living with another Andalite.

As for the Animorphs not attacking Visser Three, I'm not really sure why they never did...Maybe it became habit.

You guys think Mertil is gay? I haven't read that book in a long time, so I don't remember much. What makes you guys think he's gay?

I just got done readin the fight seen in book #50, when a thought entered my head. Why do they always let Visser Three morph. in 50 when he started morphing Cassie went to make sure Kelly(Auxillary Animorph) was ok. after some talking and narration tht would probably have been about 3 or 4 mintues long, Visser Three's morph was comeplete and a perfect oportunity to kill him while he's morphing, was wasted. He always chooses ridiculously huge morphs that probably take while to comeplete and in the mean time, he's probably as helpless the Animorphs when they're in mid-morph. I dont get it, as smart as the Animorphs are im shocked they've never tried to get him while he's morphing

Fair crack of the whip, this is a most opportune moment to take down the Visser. Another is when he is in his distinguishable human morph and also when feeding his host body. Except, as we have read, rare are the occasions where he is unguarded and unescorted. Or where the Animorphs are healthy and in control of the situation enough to take him down for good.
Also, I am pretty sure a blow to the head would kill a subject in midmorph. Cassie totally squashed the Ant/Cassie. The Auxiliary Animorphs were trying to demorph when the Visser ordered their incineration.
Just face it, the vile evil slug is in the body of an experienced War Prince Andalite morpher.

Going off on a tangent, if I may, I never quite got how that battle scene in #50: The Ultimate worked. Cassie described the scene as the hospital's rear truck deployment lot or something??? Can't remember. But I just couldn't picture that entire ZOO and whole alien mob and dracon fire happening in any hospital premises. No lot would be big enough.

Because they never really wanted to kill the Visser. In the early books, it was because he had Alloran's body. If you remember, Ax attempted to take his life, as well as Alloran's own brother, but couldn't bring themselves to do it. Cassie said, "As long as there is life, there's hope."

Mid-series, they didn't want to kill Visser 3 because, as Tobias said, it was a case of the devil you know vs the devil you don't. They had realized that killing the Visser would accomplish nothing and might actually hurt them if a smarter Visser replaced him. Either way, the war wouldn't end because of the death of one yeerk.

In the later books, reason #2 didn't apply, but they still didn't prey on him midmorph because Jake wanted to retain some semblance of honor. He made the new Animorph motto "Fight the yeerks, don't become them."

In the end they freed Alloran so I suppose it was the right thing to do.

Hey, here's a ponder I think worth writing here:

I don't exactly get the description of a Yeerk's blindness in the series... It appears that at the beginning of the series the Yeerks are meant to be plain 100% blind and deaf in their natural state, but SOMEHOW they had to be able to detect an earhole cannal for a way into a potential host. So later on in the series, via Cassie, we learn that they have INFACT got some sort of limited echolocation. Limited BUT it works in liquid AND air substances.

Bring up the number of occasions we've had the Animorphs go for a swim in the Yeerk Pool, HOW did they manage to jump in the pool, DEMORPH amid all the slugs and remorphed without ever being infested in the process. Don't the Yeerks have a sense for precisely finding those ear canals within the Yeerk pool????

What gives, K.A.?!? Are the Yeerks a 'special' quirky type of blind or something??????

OH! And more to the point, how is it that a Yeerk can normally stretch and squeeze itself into a host's cranium and brain and get killed/squashed/dies when stepped on???? I don't exactly get their physiology either....

Now THAT is a brilliant observation. Never occurred to me. But I have no idea how to answer it.

I think it might be like what contortionists do. There are people that can bend themselves in amazing ways, but if someone else takes that person and starts twisting them around it could hurt them.

It may take a bit of focus and careful maneuvering to shift through an ear canal so they don't hurt themselves, but if someone steps on them it just crushes them.

Also, how is it that a Yeerk can get through [at least a Human] ear canal without damaging their host's hearing? I'm not an expert on ear anatomy or anything, but i'm pretty sure there's no space under or around the ear drum they could squeeze past. Which would mean that they'd have to drill through causing hearing loss for the host, after the Yeerk had managed to puncture through the drum somehow.
