Animorph-Star Trek Crossover
« on: November 05, 2013, 01:12:59 AM »
The Enterprise 1701 arrives at a planet, bathed by a very weird sun, and whose surface has lots of sludgy ponds.  The Captain beams down with an away team, but he soon falls in a pond.  In short order, Kirk is taken by a Yeerk!

Funny thing is that this could easily be an episode of Star Trek. Trek has had yeerk like aliens before the two instances leap to mind are the Ceti eels from Wrath of Kahn and neural parasites from the Next Gen episode “Conspiracy”. Either of which could actually be the inspiration for the yeerks given that KA is something of a Trekkie herself.

But it's an interesting idea. What would happen would depend greatly on character of the individual yeerk. If this is that yeerks first experience with eyes the rest of the away team would quickly suspect that something's wrong and get Kirk to sickbay. In any case it'd likely be the yeerk's first experience with eyes better then a Gedd's which is notably poor. But even if Kirk's infestation was detected early on there's still interesting possibilities. Could go in similar direction as it did with the Andalites given the Federation's generally benevolent nature.

If you wanted to go the takeover-the-ship rout you might have to do some hand-waving to justify the yeerk not being overwhelmed by the new senses but that shouldn't be too difficult. Ultimately the yeerk would probably be detected either by analysis of the other yeerks, resulting in a closer medical examination of Kirk, Spock's telepathic abilities, or the yeerk attracting too much attention trying to infest other crewmembers.

Why not, it worked for Doctor Who.

You could go the alternate history route. Make the Federation a logical future extension of the Animorphs universe somehow.

I'm thinking of having a Yeerk also infest Spock, but Spock successfully resists Yeerk control and figures out how to get the Yeerks out.
