The Familier: World Trade Center
« on: November 03, 2013, 05:58:26 AM »
In this book, Jake finds himself ten years in the future, in the year 2010, 10 years after the publication of this book.  The Yeerks rule the world, opposed only by an Evolutionary Front, which consists of rebel Yeerks who advocate artificial hosts.  Jake's mission: To prevent the Yeerks from turning the Moon into a Kandrona generator.

Most interesting reference: The World Trade Center is seen!  This means that in this alternate timeline, the Yeerks completed their takeover or Earth by the year 2001, and prevented 9/11 in the process!

Al-Qaida might be the biggest human resistance left!  I suspect that even the Yeerks would have trouble catching Osama bin Laden!  I can imagine him urging suicide bombings against the "Satan Yeerks"!

Or...the book came out prior to Sep 11th, 2001?

Person Of Interest re-watch.  Still stunning as ever.

Which makes the World Trade Center reference a lot more interesting than K.A. Applegate intended!

A Yeerk takeover of Earth before 2001 would probably lead to much better security at the world's airports, thus preventing the 9/11 attacks!

I also saw references to the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building.

I invite speculation on how a Yeerk takeover would affect Middle East politics.  Which groups would side with the Yeerks, and which groups would oppose the Yeerks?

I'm imagining Hork-Bajir "Sky Marshals" on all commercial planes.  The Hork Bajir wouldn't even need any guns!

As if people would allow bladed lizard monsters from outer space to travel on their planes, no matter how peaceful they are. If Hork-Bajir traveled on planes, it would be their own, with human pilots, but no other human presence on the plane. Humans are racist, afraid of what they don't understand, and would rather not take chances with giant bladed lizard aliens. Besides, unless they have Toby level intelligence, a Hork-Bajir "sky marshal" can be fooled pretty easily.

As to me, I think that the Yeerks would have a rallying effect on the Middle East. In fact, it would drive people into the arms of the religious extremists who advocate that the Yeerks are satanic creatures and must be wiped out, possibly even the Controllers within these terrorist groups convincing them that they've sided with the "infidels" across the ocean so that there will be more armed conflict to divert attention away from them and focus it on America, making Earth much easier for conquest.

In a Yeerk controlled world, humans would have no choice in the matter.  I am imagining Hork-Bajir Controllers as Sky Marshalls!

This would have been a good time for the Chee to step forward and offer their Kandrona generators in android bodies to the Evolutionary Front!

You do know that 41 was written and published before the events of 9/11. They didn't know that terrorist attacks were coming...

Which makes the reference to a still standing WTC more interesting than K.A. Applegate intended!

If any Chee survived the exposure of th eAnimorphs, then they should be working with the Evolutionary Front to create artificial hosts, since the Chee could already keep Yeerks alive in their heads!
