Animorphs and English Papers!
« on: December 02, 2012, 08:19:46 AM »
Well, I had an English paper recently, and one question involved us writing on the eventual effects of war on Earth. No surprises for guessing where I looked toward for this...

I actually used #41: The Familiar as "reference", (without actually mentioning that fact) for my little essay on war affecting not just the landscape but human minds.

But even better was what I did for a question about the realities faced by the differently abled. #40: The Other got me to a great place! Still haven't gotten my marks yet... Fingers crossed :)

So, have any of you guys used Animorphs as an inspiration or reference for anything?

I once used a scene from book 19 to point out the flaws in flight as a superpower.

I didn't do it well, but I'm a slightly better writer now than I was at 15, so I could probably do it better if I do it again. but yeah, done it

And then there's something else I may or may not mention by April.....
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

I used Marco being a pro at video games before the war leading up to his tactical genius over the course of the series as one of my examples of how people may have larger talents hidden within the small ones. I got an A :D

Animorphs has inspired me many times over the years, from career choices and pet names to fanfics and god awful rip off story I attempted to write when I was 13... *shudder*

Since you mentioned English papers though, I did actually do a book report on #26 back in high school. We got to choose a book and then give a review of it in front of the entire class, and my public speaking skills were even worse back then. Thankfully being something I enjoyed so much distracted me enough to get past my nerves, and I believe I scored highly if memory serves. I do recall having to somehow do a brief summary of the entire Animorphs plot (never an easy task as you all know) followed by a synopsis of that particular book (it was always one of my favourites) and a reading from part of the story. I read out Jake's description of a Howler the first time they meet one, as I enjoyed the description and attention to detail.

YAY I actually got a freaking 6 out of 7 marks on my Mertil-inspired handicapped essay which is like a new high for my stingy English lady!!  8)

Note to self: ditch the textbook. Read at least two/three Animorphs titles before every English paper.

LOL. Great job on your papers! I've never done an actual paper based on an animorphs book, but I did use quotes from the animorphs series as sort of "Easter eggs" during presentations in highschool. I got a few chuckles and a couple of people who were like "I remember that!"
Meh.

Lucky you, you actually had people who recognised lines... I don't think Animorphs ever released in India, so I'm probably the onlffgenius who's read it in the entire country :(
