Possible Way to Restore A Nothlit? (Without Ellimist)
« on: September 19, 2009, 02:54:23 PM »
I don't know if this has been asked before, so I'll just go ahead and ask it.

In Book 18, the Animorphs morph mosquitos, but a passing ship in Z-space hits their mass and they get pulled into Z-space into their original bodies, and then they have to be rescued.

Let's say this happened to a nothlit who was trapped in a morph smaller than their original body, and thus still had mass in Z-space. Would they be dragged back into Z-space and have their original bodies? Would they still have the morphing power? If that was the case, nothlits could concievably be "rescued" by ships flying through Z-space if the ships could somehow find the nothlit's original body floating around somewhere.

And what if this just randomly happened to Tobias' original human body one day? Would he go back to being human? Would his hawk morph still have morphing abilities as well as his human body, or just his human body?

Wow, this idea hurts my head.  I dunno how it would work, but it's certainly a fascinating idea to consider.

The thing to consider, though, is the "rubber band effect" that brought everyone back into mosquito morph at the end of book #18.  So even if Tobias's extruded mass were found, it would only be a temporary "rescue," before the stretched rubber band would take him right back to the time, place, and body where he was before.  Perhaps there's some theoretical way to make the other body permanent, but I have no idea what that would be.

And I'd like to note that it's also been theorized that morph mass disappears after two hours (I believe some have speculated that that is the entire reason why people can get trapped in morph in the first place).  If that's the case, then this idea obviously wouldn't work, because it would mean that Tobias's original morph mass would be long gone.

And another thing to point out.  Obviously, Tobias's morph mass from morphing the mosquito in #18 was kept separate from any morph mass that would have been left from the first time he morphed a hawk (shown by the fact that he appeared as a hawk in Z-space in that book).  So what would happen if you happened across his hawk-mass while he was morphed into something smaller, and rescued him then?  His matter might wind up strewn all over the universe, and he'd rubber-band back to hawk, then rubber-band again back to whatever he'd morphed.

Oh lord, my head . . .

Idk
But to play devils advocate; we don't know for sure what happens to mass after the two hour limit. For all I know, that's why they can't morph back, the mass is lost or otherwise destroyed after a time, what is preserving it is lost and that may be the reason you can't morph back.
Don't know, but certainly never seen the question b4

when tobias got pulled he was still a halk, not a human

this myth has been busted

actually i always assumed the reason you became a nothlit was because the original body gets destroyed which is why loren was able to acquire tobias

Well, one way we know of is if the body you're stuck as goes through it's own morphing process, i.e. a caterpillar to a butterfly. This seems to reset the morphing clock, as explained by Ax in book 19.

Which, actually, would mean that the original mass WOULDN'T be lost or destroyed, or else that wouldn't work. So maybe after two hours, you just sort of loose contact with it? That would explain why Cassie was able to morph back after becoming a butterfly. 'Cause the natural morph would sort of re-link with the lost mass.

Maybe the morph mass doesn't disappear* but only the link disappear... Or maybe the morph mass just split off and is used by other Morphers who morph bigger animals...

Maybe the mass gets transferred, and we have another Tobias, Arbron, David, Aldrea, and Aftran running around some distant planet.
