Animorphs Related Questions...which I think you may skip
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:47:32 AM »
Ok sorry if that might have sounded rude. I kinda got the impression you people quickly skim through anything newcomers posts. Cept for my intros, my post on my art and fic has been...meh. Not much or nil. (But those who replied to those posts, DON'T TAKE IT THE WRONG WAY! I AM VERY HAPPY FOR YOUR REPLIES!)

Anyway, I was going over the next chapter of my fic, The Alteration and came across some questions. They are Animorphs related so hopefully you can help me out.

1) How long has the Yeerk invasion been? I know that it has been around before the forming of Animorphs but I wonder if there was maybe a beginning like say 1940s or 1980s or something. Wasn't too sure if the books mentioned it. :\

2) Can Ax thought-speak in his human? OK this question has seriously been BUGGING ME! In my old version of my fic, I wrote that he can thought-speak in human but I know something's wrong with that! And now with my new version, I'm entirely clueless! Heck, I don't know if thought-speech applies to human morphs other than animal morphs! ARRRGH! -sulks in a corner-

3) This is more an opinion question for you guys. Would you prefer the Animorphs' time and world set in before 2000s or after? And if after, which year? Etc, 2005, 2008, 2009?

This question, I had wondered bout it while writing my fic. I think I came across a post discussing bout it. But it got me thinking. If after 2000s, it would be interesting since now we have gone quite far in technology then in 1994-1999. Annnd, Ax would be a bit more ahem...curious of things (he's gonna ask a loooot of questions about an Xbox 360 >x<; ).

Plus, after 2000s somehow would suit better for the storyline of my fic than 1994. I guess in a way, I wanted to see how to write it in that time. Also that some parts of the fic, I kept on going towards 2000s instead of sticking to 1990s. v____v Sheez! So, I was curious to know what you people think: before or after 2000s setting?

And I can't help it but feel like the re-releases of the Animorphs books might change to be in a modern setting.... Maybe it's just me.

Thhhhhaat is about it. :x I am an Animorphs fan and I don't even know how to answer these questions. I really am pathetic... =_=; Anyway thank you for looking over too!

1. From what we can pick up from the text, Marco's mom was probably infested about three and a half years prior to the series, which, if the series is set 1996-1999, means that the invasion is underway at least by 1992. Edriss had to be on Earth for some time to set up the Sharing and have her bebehs, so I'd guess the invasion probably started in the late 80's.

2. Yes, he can. When he says in #8 that he can't, it's a KASU. He goes on to use thought-speak in human morph in #35 at least.

3. Personally, I love the 90's references on the Animorphs, but on the board where I RP Marco I've set him in the 2000's, so really, I'd say do whatever works best for the story. I love the 90's and how the books so accurately reflects the setting of my childhood, but keeping stuff set in the 90's can be a total pain sometimes.

 :pwease:

THANK U FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS!

1. I guess it would make sense considering Edriss is Visser One and the head of the all army. And yeah, I'd agree on the time she'd need to set up the Sharing since it does look like a well recognized organization.

2. WOO-HOO! So he can talk! But um..what's KASU? ^^; <=suffers from forgetfulness now and then

3. That's a good point. When I read the books too, I love the whole setting since it was the same as my surroundings at the time. But writing in 90s is indeed a pain cuz I had to look up so much research regarding the time. And today's technology looks cooler. :P

Thanks for the insight. I think I wanna try a more modern setting for my fic. It'll give a different view. And hey, might be a lot interesting to see how Ax tries to figure out maybe the Mac or better yet PS2! XD

Again, thanks for everything, LisaCharly! :D

KASU = KA Applegate Screw Up. Basically an error in how morphing/though-speal/aliens work.

Hey, guys, no need to speculate about the timeline of the war. It's already been discussed in detail.

http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=427.msg269700#msg269700

Check out anijen's post. It's really very impressive, and should give you a very good idea of what makes sense for timeline regarding the series as a whole. I think this is the most updated version of her timeline.

Yep, Ax can thought-speak in human morph.

And as for when the fic is set- I feel like it could be very good regardless. It's really your preference, I think, though for the modern reader, it might be more relatable if set in the last few years.

Good luck ;)

Cough, sorry for the late reply.

Sweet! This will be very helpful!

And YIPPEE! Ax can thought-speak! XD Merci!

Thanks for your opinion. :) And I think I'll do the modernizing. It'll be a fun challenge to do but there are some aspects I'll have trouble with (like what Elfangor would do 13 years ago :-X, that I'm struggling). And hey, perhaps being in 2000s would be more helpful for the Animorphs. For them, there could be more morphs then because of discovery by zoologists or new species at the zoo. And I like challenges ;) (But I could use bit help now and then for brainstorming since IT IS SHIFTING FROM 1994 TO LIKE MAYBE 2004! :zombie:)

I'm wondering if I should use 2005 (because XBOX 360 was out that time :3) or a bit further but there's still the issue of 13 years ago and...not too sure what was done in 1991 with electronics. Or like how it's Elfangor was friends with "Steve and Bill".

Anyhow thanks for everything! :D
