Name's Shemaiah and I like Animorphs
« on: February 22, 2010, 06:56:27 PM »
Since I can post anything in this section I will just ramble on for a bit and see if anyone cares to respond.

About 8-10 years ago, I spent my time regularly on the morphz website, which is now nonexistent I believe. When Animorphs # 22 came out (I think it's 22, the one where Rachel narrates and David is "dealt with") the book was dedicated to Jeff Sampson and all of his friends. What I heard was that K A Applegate wanted to dedicate the book to morphz members, however the publisher did not allow that kind of dedication.

I am not sure what kind of impact that had on my life, but it allowed me to debate and discuss topics of great interest: religion, evolution, science, politics and of course literature, among other areas. I learned then that the internet was an incredible way to connect with people, usually people one would never meet nor learn the details of their lives. But you discover just how irrelevant those details can be. Connecting with people intellectually is much more rewarding than meeting a person with whom one never discusses or debates anything interesting.

Back then it was a community. Some people were older, some younger, but everyone was accepted. Everyone belonged who desired to belong. And although I've never been much of a person for making friends, I belonged there on that forum more than anywhere I lived in the "real world."

You know, back then there was no facebook or myspace. These forums were the height of social networking. Even people like myself stopped appreciating them.

I'm here now because RAF was kind enough to send me an e-mail threatening to deactivate my account :). We'll see how long it lasts.

I knew there probably was a better place to do it. That's just how incredibly impatient I am.

Hi Shemaiah! Welcome to RAF! I remember the good old days of morphz as well, though I wasn't active on the forums I frequented the site and lurked quite a bit (I was busy in my own little hole of the fandom). I know exactly what you mean about the sense of community and connection, though. It's why I'm still here. :)

Hope to see you around!

Hi Shemaiah!  I'm Tara, and I remember morphz as well.  I mostly lurked there, too, I was active at a place called Kimmeree's Anichats for many years (and I guess I kinda still am, since there's still a message board of sorts).

Welcome to RAF!  Hope you decide to stick around a while, enjoy and if you have any questions feel free to let any of us know.

Oh, and if you'd kindly leave your sanity at the door...just...right over there.  Beyond the creepy bartender dude.  Yeah, he doesn't say much.  :)

Hi, Shemiah! Welcome to RAF! I know no two communities are the same, and nor can one replace the other, but I think the sense of camaraderie, friendship, and community here is incredible. I hope you feel right at home; the best way I know how is by getting involved in discussions, projects, and just hanging out in RAFchat. We look forward to getting to know you!

wHELLcome, Shemaiah! May I call you Shemy?
I'm Vis... I'm Dameg, another RAFian. Come with me, please, I have something to show you. It's here, after this door *Open a heavy door* We call them the RAFprojects. *Lead Shemy to a long and dark hallway, with many doors, some in the dark, some with light coming from the other side. Arrive near the first door* Here at your left...

- The Ebooks project: [Help wanted!] Animorphs (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0), Remnants (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html <= finished), Everworld (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html <= almost finished, it's our current priority, we need help to correct the volume #3 and check all the volumes to be sure there is no missing page) and GONE (new project?); the Everworld/Animorphs ebooks need to be cleaned a little (mistakes, missing pages, we don't know where the chapters begin and finish, etc.) so if you wanna be a correcter... call me, I head that projects.

Facing it is...

- RAFipedia: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=22.0, an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);

Next it's...

- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0, a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel;

and here...

- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html, a Webcomic headed by Gafrash.

You also have...

- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html, we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...);

here and facing it is...

- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html, a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks;

Next door is for the special project:

- http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html: the adventures of the RAFians;

At the end it's for the little projects:

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html to make the planets we hear about in Animorphs;

- the paper-RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^;

- the RPG project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html to make a video game about Animorphs, with RPGmaker;

- the Command-line game project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html for another kind of video game about Animorphs;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html where we count all the people killed by the Animorphs;

- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735, where we make songs and sing them...

and some other projects who come and go. Please check the list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html

*Standing in front of Shemy* I hope you enjoyed your visit. Oh, and I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller. ... and if you want, you can add your age too: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html...

RAF is a great community. You already can see that many people talked to you only few hours after your first message ^^ I don't know Morphz, as I just got my host about the same year Animorphs came out, but I didn't use the Internet back then, so I can't compare.

Now I have to go, I don't invite you for the meal, sorry. *Beginning to go down dark stairs. Shemy can hear a cry coming from the cave.*
Have fun!
*Dameg disappears into the darkness, Shemy is now alone in the hallway*

Through every word of this, I was just thinking "That's how I see RAF... RAF... still RAF..." Hopefully you can find some of that here. In any case, there are plenty of intellectual discussions (and less intellectual ones) to jump into, covering basically all subjects imaginable (though Animorphs is still obviously the most discussed thing here). There's entertainment. There's excitement. There's adventure. There's a complete lack of sanity on any of our parts. And best of all, this forum is still remarkably active nearly a decade after the series ended.

Welcome ^_^ It's good to meet you! Make yourself at home ;)
