Daniel steadies himself as the two men approach the jeep. He takes aim-- he'll have to be steady. This is at the edge of his range of accuracy, so even hitting his target seems a difficult possibility.
He catches sight of Roger, and picks up on the message. He shifts his aim towards the second man, the slower one.
The two unknowns approach the jeep with their weapons drawn and their hackles raised. They're uneasy, but they don't suspect the trap that's been laid for them just yet. Daniel makes a motion that he hopes indicates that Roger should take the first shot, lets out a breath, and waits.
"Graaaaiiiiiiinnnnns ssss..."
The moan is practically in his ear.
"****," he mutters, swinging around to face the shambling Grained that is already reaching for his briefcase of oatmeal. He swings the briefcase up into the creature's head and it stumbles back, its head snapping up.
If the creature is surprised at all, it doesn't show, and it again takes a step towards him.
Daniel curses again. There's not really a choice here. He raises his gun and squeezes the trigger. The creature drops at his feet, a neat, round hole between its eyes, as the deafening shot rings through the trees.
So much for the element of surprise.
Daniel glances over his shoulder. The two people approaching the jeep appear to have hit the dirt at the sound of the gunshot. He can barely see them now-- one is behind a tree and the other, mostly hidden behind a slight rise in the ground. They're no longer interested in the jeep.
Without thinking, Daniel ducks out of cover and squeezes off a shot at the one hiding behind the tree. A cloud of dust and vaporized sap rises from said tree. An instant later, a hail of gunfire comes tearing through the cloud. Daniel barely manages to duck back behind his own tree before the woods around him are torn apart by bullets.
