The way I see it a person's thought-speak voice sounds like whatever you want it to sound like.  The Animorphs' thought-speak voices probably sound like their normal voices because that's how they expect them to sound.  Ax's voice sounds a bit more "childish" than Visser Three simply because he's younger.

The way I see it, thought-speech probably sounds and changes the way you grew up learning it. People grow up with different accents because they learnt and became accustomed to the way it sounds. Most young males and females would probably develop their thought-voices based on their parents, siblings and friends unconsciously. It's like the frolis manoeuvre you merge different parts together to represent you.

As you grow up your mind internalises what it visualises as your own voice so it becomes harder to imitate others. I guess it would be possible for people to impersonate other people's thought-voice if you practised enough or were naturally gifted. What I think would be interesting would be if you could "throw your thought voice" and trick others into thinking you are near or further away. I'm sure if Andalites did exist they'd have some who were more skilled than others at telepathy maybe not even limited to thought-speech but I digress.
Temporal Traveller Aquilai: "One small step back in time. One GIANT leap for mankind."
"People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "reality". But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? Merely vague concepts… their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?"

I was about to ask if Tobias's "voice" would have changed over the years.

Then I remember that he sounded different in 41; at least Jake didn't recognize it as Tobias's voice immediately, but then who knows if that's a real change or just more of the weird stuff happening in that book
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

keep in mind that thoughtspeak, at least for andalites, does not work by transmitting sounds, it works more based on images.  so for example when ax says "tobias is my shorm"  he is focusing on an image of tobias, and then on a tail blade.  andalites have no other form of communication, and it is a universal translator that lets them understand words.  the voice changing as such, would be more likely represented by clarity/details in the images used.

I remember from the book where Tobias gets tortured, when he morphs Ax, he feels that the Andalite mind is naturally full of optimism.  During the series, many Andalites are battle-worn and wary.  Thus, (I feel like I'm writing a speech) the Andalite's thoughtspeak would would grow from an optimistic child to a hardcore warrior, although in book 54, Marco says that civilian Andalites are much mellower than their warrior counterparts.  So civilian andalites might have different thoughtspeak voices than warriors.  Plus, I think the reason that the Animorphs could understand each other in thoughtspeak, is because a human naturally adopt their human voices, since they've heard it the most (avid television watchers exempted).

Yeah, why assume adalites even sound remotely human unless speaking directly to a human? although that would bring up another question, Im pretty sure the vissers have been overheard and understood by the animorphs at some point, right? Guess that might put a hole in that theory...

thought speak is universally understood because of how it is transmitted to the brain, it doesnt rely on language at all.  humans process it as words because thats what they are used to, but i always thought of thought speak as transmitting entire concepts, and skipping the middleman of using words to describe them, because if you can send a thought of exactly the kind of cat you are thinking of, why bother with a word for "cat"?

Good question. I would say yes, just because the Animorphs can distinguish their own thought speech "voices" between one another.

In my imagination I've always thought of Ax's voice as sounding younger than Elfangors but heck if I know.  :)

As Jake and Marco proceed through their teenage years, will their thought speak voices get lower the same way their regular voices will?
