Or maybe it was...?
At any rate, I think it's been for the the better part of the year that Marie and Billy (and later some of the 7 other RAFians I've now met) have been trying to convince me to join the forum. So here I am, finally :)
To be perfectly honest, I have not read any of the books... yet. I've been saying I will for a while, and I have had the first 6 on loan to me from Marie for a couple years now, so I suppose it's about time to jump in and get started, what with joining RAF and all. I'll keep y'all updated on my progress - maybe that will keep me and my sometimes short attention span accountable.
Sooo, as for an introduction... I'm Lauren... born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Actually, Berkeley, more specifically. And no hippie jokes, please, no matter how much Billy tries to convince you to make them. Somehow I ended up settling in Houston after coming here to go to Rice U. I guess it happened by default. Right now I'm working as a tech at a referral-based specialty veterinary hospital, which works out well, at least for the moment, because my plan is to go to vet school. It was one of those childhood dreams that took me about 15 years to realize wasn't actually unattainable or silly and might be worth pursuing.
What else... hobbies and interests? I feel like I don't get to spend much time on anything but work right now, but when I do get time, I like making jewelry, horseback riding, hiking and camping, skydiving, reading, and anything that has to do with music - whether it be listening, going to concerts and shows, or playing my cello. I'm game for anything from classical to oldies to hip-hop to bluegrass; I can find something I like in almost any genre.
Other things that are useful to know about me: I'm a coffee fanatic (alright, "snob" might be an appropriate term as well), I love the series Firefly, I HATE, LOATHE, and DESPISE carrots (and yet love the color orange), and I am absurdly neurotic about my dog(s) [I'm sure I'll be introducing them at some point... one is mine (Jolie), and one is a foster (Ranger), who may end up as mine if I can convince my landlords that it's a fantastic idea to let me adopt him :)]. Oh, and bad grammar makes me very sad.
Ok, I'm pretty sure this post has gone on a bit too long, and it's WAY past my bedtime. Morning always comes sooner than you'd like, especially when it's a Monday.

:tldr: ;D
welcome to RAF!
glad kit got you to finally join.
let us know what you think of the series. :)
-
Hiya, Lauren. Welcome to RAF! :D
Eeeh...not much of a welcome. In class right now so have to type fast. But it's nice to meet ya.
-
Welcome to the forum, Lauren, I'm Ash. :)
I've listened to your Double Cello Firefly Theme on Youtube a couple of times - you guys were fantastic :)
-
Welcome to Raf! I want to go to vet school too, but I haven't had the chance yet to work in a vet clinic. How do you like it?
Oh. I'm Patty by the way!
-
Hi Lauren! :D Welcome to RAF!
I HATE, LOATHE, and DESPISE carrots (and yet love the color orange)
:D I like you already!
-
Hi Lauren, welcome to RAF! Firefly is awesome so you'll fit in well, lol.
-
Yay Lauren! I'm so glad you joined! See? I told you these people were nice!
(STAY NICE, PEOPLE!)
I know you you feel about spoilers, so you might want to avoid the Animorphs discussion board until you get into (or even finished with) the series.We often try to hide spoilers, but sometimes we forget.
-
Actually most people don't bother since we got the ebooks.
-
Actually most people don't bother since we got the ebooks.
*cough* Or since, you know, the series ended 9 years ago.
XD Honestly! This is the only fandom I know where people get so finnicky about spoilers this late. Not that we should spoil it for new readers, obviously. :P Just... they should generally stay away from Animorphs discussions. XD
...But other discussions? :D Other discussions are good. *drags Lauren to various boards* See?
-
Since Animorphs wasn't that widely read, except by people of a very particular range and set of interests, it presents a great opportunity for folks who come to it late to read it with just as much excitement and newness as we did. I just don't want that experience ruined for anyone, especially if they're the kind of reader who doesn't like spoilers in general.
-
lol, you should have seen this place back in the day! Even way after the series had ended, only a handful of members had all the books and quite a few still hadn't read them all, so we had to be more careful with spoilers. Since we introduced the ebooks, this hasn't really been an issue because now everyone has access to all the books.
Anyway, I'll shut up now so I don't ruin Lauren's intro thread!

Which is why they should stay away from the Animorphs sections. :P
Unless you just can't take it anymore and have a "GAH! I NEED TO KNOW!" moment... that's happened to me before! XD

wHELLcome, Lauren!
I'm Vis... I'm Dameg, another RAFian. I'm here for the visit of the RAFprojects. Usually I don't do it for the new people who've never read the books, but as you said you wanted to begin... Well, you still can join any project you want. For some, you'll need to read the books, for others you don't need to. So please now follow me *Open a heavy door and lead Lauren to a long and dark hallway, with many doors, some in the dark, some with light coming from the other side. Arrive near the first door* Here at your left...
- RAFipedia: http://rafipedia.wetpaint.com/ (http://rafipedia.wetpaint.com/), an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);
Next it's...
- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0), a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel; Here you may have to know the books, at least a little. I'm not sure, so if you wanna join this project, ask the leaders I named.
and here...
- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html), a Webcomic headed by Gafrash. Here too, you need to know at least a little the books. But as you seem to like the animals, maybe you can help even before...
You also have...
- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html), we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...); You don't need to read the books at all here ^^
here and facing it is...
- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html), a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks; It's more a project for the not-English-speakers.
Next door is for the special project:
- http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html): the adventures of the RAFians; You don't need to know the books at all ^^ It's more about RAF itself and the RAFians than about Animorphs.
At the end it's for the little projects:
- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html);
- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html) to make the planets we hear about in Animorphs;
- the paper-RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^;
- the RPG project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html) to make a video game about Animorphs, with RPGmaker;
- the Command-line game project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html) for another kind of video game about Animorphs;
- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html) where we count all the people killed by the Animorphs;
- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735), where we make songs (and sing them?)...
- the One RAFian On Volume project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5317.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5317.0) where everybody take a picture of him/herself with a volume of Animorphs... <= We need a lot of RAFians to participate! You only need a volume of Animorphs (rented if you don't have any) & a camera/webcam.
and some other projects who come and go. Please check the list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html)
Feel free to visit the other boards too. I only present the projects, but it's a little part of RAF. But be careful staying away from the Animorphs board on the top of the forum, as Marie said. We spoil a lot because almost everybody here have finished the full series.
*Standing in front of Lauren* I hope you enjoyed your visit. Oh, and I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html) 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller (read the 1st volume of Animorphs to understand). ... and if you want, you can add your age too: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html)... and say where do you live here: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5049.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5049.0) so Marie can add you on the RAFworld Map!
We also opened a http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=36.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=36.0) to teach to each others our languages and other stuffs.
May I suggest you call your (future) son Tobias? You'll understand why after reading Animorphs ;)
Now I have to go, I don't invite you for the meal, sorry. *Beginning to go down dark stairs. Lauren can hear a cry coming from the cave.*
Have fun!
*Dameg disappears into the darkness, Lauren is now alone in the hallway*
-
Lauren's here! Hey ^_^ I'm so glad you decided to join! (I'm Scott, who you met, by the way)
Anyway, yeah, if I were you I'd avoid the Animorphs board altogether until you finish the series if you want to avoid spoilers. On the bright side, that's easy enough to do around here. Plenty of non-Animorphs stuff going on too ^_^
I keep trying to think of some eloquent way to express my excitement that you're here, which quickly degrades into baby-like burbling in my mind and leaves me wondering how to spell "bbvvlvbbahbbblllfff vvv." I think it'd be better if I just don't mention it ;D
Welcome to RAF :)
-
welcome and hello!
can't wait for you to read the books! They are awesome :)
-
Hi Lauren, welcome to RAF. I'm Jess, and I'm not nice. Well, not always, at least. Sometimes I am.
Aaaaaanyway. Welcome!
-
Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I appreciate it. Didn't mean to drop off the face of the planet after my first post, but I had a hectic week and had no time for much except work and occasionally eating and sleeping. Anyway, despite what my long absence may make it seem like, I AM excited to be here! I know it's an interesting group, if those I've met are any indication. Can't wait to get to know more of you :)
-
Heya Lauren! I'm Tara, friend to many and Yeerk to most ;) Umm. Yeah! XD Welcome, and any friend of Marie's and Billy's is a friend of mine!
-
Lauren! Lauren! Lauren! Hey guys, it's Lauren! Lauren's here! Did ya see!? Lauren's here!
Okay, I'm calm. I swear. Hey there, Lauren! Welcome to the sanity-stealing realm of RAF! No lurking allowed!
-
Hehe. Jessi, I'm right there with you on this one ^_^
And Lauren, life happens. One of the unfortunate facts of... well, life. I'm glad you're posting when you get time :D
-
My man Dave (Pez001) and I have met Jessi and we're pretty much exploding with eagerness to meet the rest of the Houston crew ;D
Of course, if you ever feel the urge to come visit Denver/Boulder...I'm also organizing a coup to get everyone I know to relocate here XD We grew up in Boston, Dave and I, so we're transplants too.
As for hippies, I went to school in hippie cow land of western Mass., and I now live in the hippie capital of the Rocky Mountain region...I want a VW bus...so Berkeley makes me happy. I promise I won't make hippie jokes ;)
-
Of course, if you ever feel the urge to come visit Denver/Boulder...
First things first: as far as the urge to visit Colorado and Denver/Boulder... well, you can be sure that it's pretty much constant with me... I LOVED Colorado years ago (I think I was... 9 when I went camping there?). And now I know someone there! Hooray. Also, I'm extraordinarily jealous that you get to live in such a gorgeous state. I always imagined that if I moved out of Cali, I would go somewhere equally beautiful like Colorado or Montana for a little while because I was so struck by them when I visited. Texas... at least anywhere near Houston, etc, falls a bit short on the whole breathtakingly beautiful anything factor. No offense, my native Houstonian friends out there.
As for hippies, I went to school in hippie cow land of western Mass., and I now live in the hippie capital of the Rocky Mountain region...I want a VW bus...so Berkeley makes me happy. I promise I won't make hippie jokes ;)
I totally grew up with a creamsicle-orange VW bus... thought you'd appreciate that ;)
-
Oh, I am loving the creamsicle VW bus. So totally epic.
I love this part of the country, even though I sometimes miss my claustrophobic, tree-filled, lobstah-eating home ;)
-
LAUREN! hey it's about time you finally joined! ;D
-
You know me in Colorado too, you punk :P
Which I am planning on leaving for Houston. Much to the horror of you and everyone else I tell, at least judging by the looks on their faces. Is it really that strange to want to move to be close to really cool people?
-

Wow I fail hard. I forgot that you hailed from the great state of Colorado... But how bout we say it was because, in my heart of hearts, I know you belong here in Houston with us. Because you're THAT cool. ;D And no, it's not that strange to want to be amongst us, maybe it's just odd that we all ended up in a place like Houston. We are waaaay to cool for it. Lol. That includes you.
-
Haha. Kind of my thoughts exactly, being down there. How is it that so many awesome people ended up in Texas? :P Honestly, Houston's actually pretty cool as far as cities go from what I've seen.
And, yeah, if I were smart, I'd be moving up to Boulder- in addition to Tara and Dave, I have some pretty cool non-RAF friends up there too. But I've got reasons that I just want to get out of this area and as far away as I can for a while >.<
-
Aww Lumy's leaving us? :(
-
Tara, I'm not close enough to realistically see you often anyway :P
-
how many times have u seen tara now?
-
We can always drive down to see you! ;D ;)
-
how many times have u seen tara now?
All of... two? Not enough >.< Tara rocks.
We can always drive down to see you! ;D ;)
I'm all for that ^_^ Just make sure you wait for me to get back in state first ;)
-
True, true, we'll wait ;) And you rock too, dude!
-
I'm thinking another trip is in order!? :P
-
Maybe another beer bus ride? ;D
