Katherine and I have some information we'd like to share, and a favor we'd like to ask.
Not sure if you've heard this yet but ANIMORPHS will be re-issued in spring/summer 2011. That is definite and official.
An editor at Scholastic is combing the first two books for outdated references, sending suggested fixes, and asking us to approve. Which we've now done.
Scholastic will re-cover the books using something called a lenticular cover. So far as we know it's just the first 2 books, then I guess they'll wait and see how sales go before issuing more.
Scholastic has asked us to prepare a small video to show at the sales meeting in early August. We realized that the sales people probably don't really know what ANIMORPHS has meant to so many people. So we wondered whether RAF participants might be interested in sending us some brief video clips just saying what ANIMORPHS has meant to them. They could be extemporaneous, or they could read from some of the lovely letters they've sent over the years. The only real guidance we have to offer is to make sure the audio is audible. Use as high definition as you have available, but don't sweat it if it doesn't quite look like Avatar. Sincerity is more important than technique.
If you'd post this letter that would be very helpful.
Please ask any who wish to participate to forward their video to jake-at-jakemates.com.
Thanks,
Michael and Katherine

I remember someone did a kind of video for school and posted here that showed stuff on animorphs, like the kind of stuff you'd show right before a TV episode. Maybe we could find and submit that.
-
Thats awesome! I'm definitely gonna have to make something. A few people have already made some pretty cool videos about RAF and animorphs.
-
I'm writing a script for my video now! If there's one thing I enjoy gushing about, it's Animorphs! XD
-
i can't wait to see what you guys can come up with!
K.A. definitely picked the right group for help ;)
-
Seeing as we are visiting friends from across the country whom we met through Animorphs, and have spent countless hours thinking about and just generally being influenced and inspired by Animorphs...Dave and I are so in! Maybe Luke/Ossanlin, too, since we're at his house :D
-
I'd like to make one too, to show that people read Animorphs in a lot of countries, in a lot of languages ^^ But I don't know if it'll be good lol
I'll try...
-
gah-need camera and computer skills!-gah
And I'm compelled to say that if the One RAFian-one volume thing could be put together soon enough, but a compiled narration over it real quick, i think it would make a great RAF contribution to the individuals' vids: show there is a community from all over the world built on these books
-
That is a GREAT idea, Rob!

Yeah ^^
In fact, I wanted to use it to promote Animorphs and RAF, but you have a good idea ^^
We still need about 30 RAFians for the pics...
-
yay, i wasn't laughed off the site for that one
Thing is there, is a deadline
Scholastic has asked us to prepare a small video to show at the sales meeting in early August
I'm assuming that's this August and idk if can be done what with it already mid july.
I'd actually post a full pic myself right now, but I don't have a camera handy; and more importantly my books are 400 miles away at the moment :(
But yeah if it can be done in time...
Edit:
Though I must add now: *** I hate thinking
(I feel like a, well, Animorph saying it, but) In any case we have to be careful-too much attention to RAF itself would probably call for a look see, and I don't think the folks at sale would like a site with a stock pile of ebooks :-X
And finally slightly off topic, but who is responsible for updating Animorphs on Wikipedia?! Word of a reprint not spreading!
-
Where there is a will, there is a way!
Too bad I don't have any telent.
-
I've never even made a video before, but even I'm tempted to pitch in! If nothing else I'd love to be able to tell people all about what this incredible series has done for me over the years.
I really hope we can get the One RAFian-one volume thing finished in time, that would be a great addition to the video. Ideally it'd be great to get as many RAFians as possible to record at least a short message supporting Animorphs, and for those that don't have access to video maybe a written message? How about a list of our members just to show how many of us there are?
-
If it helps I can have little jack tape a pic with a book. He can't read yet and care barely write, but he loves Animorphs as much as a 5 year old possibly can. Maybe PM some people who could throw in a photo, ya know?
-

Its wikipedia lol everybodys responsible

That's a great idea, Patty. It'll help show that youngin's are showing interest!
I also think it's important to show some of our younger members in the video, say the 14 and under crowd. They're closest to the age group Scholastic will be marketing to and the company will want to know that kids of that age are willing and eager to read a decade plus old series.
-
When do we need to have these vids in? If I can get my laptop fixed soon I could do a TAS styled video or somethin :P TAS was inspired by RAF which is an Animorphs forum after all :P
-
Good idea blue, but it seems that they're more looking for images of actual fans...
-
Good idea blue, but it seems that they're more looking for images of actual fans...
yeah, i'd have to agree with jess (though your TAS is still awesome ;))
i'm going to get my picture in REAL soon. not sure about a video. i'll have to wait and see.
-
Man, if only I had any skill whatsoever.
-
Too bad I'm way too self-conscious of myself to get the guts and do this -_-
*disappointed in self*
-
when jack comes home tomorrow i'll show him books available and let him take his pick.

Maybe, but it'd be cool to have another kind of video. Made by a fan who love Animorphs... I think it's OK ^^ Blue, try!
About the video of One RAFian One Volume:
I'll make various videos with the pics, when we'll have them all. One for them (to promote Animorphs only), and one to promote RAF (so with the address of the forum, and all that stuff). I'll begin by the 1st, of course.
And I had an idea, yesterday, for this project. The pictures are for the video, but we'd need audio too. So, what about everybody read one or 2 lines of the volume you post? For example, the person who makes a pic of him/herself with the volume #3 choose a sentence or 2 short sentences of volume #3 to read, sentence(s) that (s)he particularly like in the volume. It can be humor or tragedy, beautiful sentence who shows the mind of the series, etc.
If you don't like this idea, so just say something about Animorphs, why you like it, when you first read it, etc.
(In fact, it'd be better if you do both, and then we'll choose which one is the best, I'll make 2 videos with both of the audios, ok?)
If you can't register your voice, jut write what you wanna say, and I'll add it to the video. I'll probably add a little music so it won't be no-sound during your picture, don't worry ^^ And Patty, I'd be glad to see a pic of Jack with a volume and/or a text he writes. ^^
You can send everything to my email address (in my profile) or by PM. Thanks ^^
-
Good idea, Dameg.
I was thinking that people could say something along the lines of, "My name is _________ and I started reading Animorphs in __(year)__ when I was ________ years old." and then a short bit about how Animorphs has impacted them. That audio could be up while that persons picture is on-screen. Or, it could only be the one line and it could be a quicker montage of pictures followed by a compilation of the videos people have created, talking in more detail about the effect Animorphs has had on them.
I imagine Scholastic won't want anything insanely long, as AppleGrant is only presenting this as a short video to show Animorphs impact.
Really, any of your suggestions will work too, Dameg. I feel like if at least the first part of it is scripted it'll add cohesiveness though.
-
I want to put the audio when the face appear (your first idea). The pictures alone would be a little sad, and videos after would make the video too long. I'd like to make it 10 min long. Not more. So it has to be short.
PS: See my messages on the project thread too...
But if we decide to send only the video where we read the sentences from the books, we could also make another video where we talk about Animorphs, made from various short videos. After all, we can send various videos, and they'll choose the ones they prefer ^^
PS: We still need 33 more RAFians for the pics! Don't be shy, we really need you!!
-
Hi, Guys:
We really appreciate the response! Thanks for considering this.
However, we need individual and unedited video, not a group thing. We need to be able to intersperse fan video with other stuff and once you guys assemble it into a single piece we won't be able to edit it. We will be far more likely to be able to use the videos if we can edit them.
Thanks!
KA and MG
-
Oh, OK then... We'll keep the group videos for Youtube...
Anyway, I hope you'll watch it ;)
-
I think I'm going to make one :) I'm still picking up my old Animorphs books and reading them.
-
I know they're looking for unedited video, but if they're adding background music, they might look at the track list we've been putting together for the books for ideas.
I have to agree with not mentioning RAF, one it could be bad for RAF, considering the ebooks on here. I know there was some discussion about taking them down on our own now that the books are being rereleased, but I'd like it to be our decision, or I guess Richard's, rather than a legal obligation.
two, the video's going to scholastic, so I don't think it would do any good to promote RAF, since scholastic's probably the only people seeing it.
three, they're looking for people's response to the animorphs and what animorphs has meant to them, I don't think it would be, um...proper(?) to try to push RAF on them
other than that I think it's great that they're rereleasing them, it'd give them a chance to fix inconsistancies, and to get new people into the series. Looking back, I think animorphs was the first thing that got me thinking outside the terms good guy/bad guy
-
I agree, donut. We're promoting an Animorphs re-release here, not RAF. Scholastic doesn't care about us as a forum, they care about us as individual fans that can be marketed to. It's all about the moolah.
-
I know they're looking for unedited video, but if they're adding background music, they might look at the track list we've been putting together for the books for ideas.
Nice idea.
KKA&MG, if you need musics, you can check this message: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5154.msg428270#msg428270 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5154.msg428270#msg428270)
It's a "soundtrack" we're "making" for the Animorphs.
-
All those who are making videos, and have them completed, can you all upload them to Youtube after you send them to Jake and in turn post them here?
-

If it's anything like the Gone Promo Video that Michael & Jake did a little while ago, then I think they'd prefer that you send the video file directly to them via email. It makes sense to do it this way so that the highest resolution possible is available to Jake, and so that he doesn't have to go through an extra step of downloading and converting all of the Youtube vids.
That said, I'd still like to see everyone's individual submissions, so feel free to upload it on Youtube afterwards :P
-
Right. I want to see them AFTER they have been submitted.
-
Right. I want to see them AFTER they have been submitted.
Oops, I misunderstood that then. Sorry :P
BTW, are you filming something? It'd be the most epic thing ever if your first video online was to Scholastic, telling them how awesome Animorphs is. 8) ;D
-
sound great!!! I'll think about that although my English sucks and I don't have any cameras. But Animorphs' still my love. I also wish to have a movie or new TV series of Animorphs.

where do we sent the videos to? I will also load them up to youtube.
btw, do we have a RAF youtube channel??
-
Send all videos to jake@jakemates.com
-
A re-release?! Are you kidding me?
Count me in. I'll make one. It won't be fancy, it'll probably be grainy, I don't have the greatest camera, but I'm all for this!
And here, I thought I'd be keeping my old 1990's books in my classroom. ^_^!

Good idea, Dameg.
I was thinking that people could say something along the lines of, "My name is _________ and I started reading Animorphs in __(year)__ when I was ________ years old." and then a short bit about how Animorphs has impacted them.
I just got in from a vacation and looked over some of the stuff I've missed in the past handful of days; then I caught this thread, and it's funny because my first thought was that it would be cool if the "My name is _________" should really be worked into it. If KA and MG are interested in collecting unedited videos of individuals, maybe everyone could include a "My name is _________" line in their videos so that they have the option of editing together a series of them to introduce it.
-
I was just thinking that, too!

I posted this over at LJ and Hirac, but I'll post it here again. For those of you that live in different countries and speak a first language other than English, it might be worthwhile for you to do the entire video in your own language instead. It's the best and most direct way of letting Scholastic know that there is a worldwide audience still available for the series. It could potentially even give your country a better chance of having Animorphs be re-released in that language. (Just remember to add in English subtitles, so that the sales folks at Scholastic know what you're saying ;))

Totally agreed! Dave and I are thinking up our own little blurbs now that we're settled in to our new apartment. I think we're both aiming for around 20 to 30 seconds, just to keep things short and sweet.
-
Introducing ourselves that way in all of our vids and having a lot of "My name is ____" cuts in the beginning of the video is a perfect idea - even that shows an Ani impact on our lives. And maybe not every testimonial will make it into the final product, depending on quantity/lengths, so having "spare" fans, so to speak, with the classic Animorph intro line, is definitely handy from an editing standpoint.
-
That's definitely a good idea, and I think everyone who is submitting should go with it. It'll be a nice nod to the intro line of the series :D
-
Submitted mine! *faint* ...it's so blasted hot in here, and I'm sweating making this thing, haha.

Oh cool, I wish I saw this earlier. I'd love to make a video for this :)
-
There's still time!

I emailed mine! Here it is on youtube:

You guys who have the means and are considering making a video, but haven't done it yet... DO IT! We need the publishers to understand why these books are so important--and why they deserve great marketin. My video's sound and video quality are horrible, and the sound and image don't even line up but I did the best I could with what I had. And you can too! :)
-
Ooo, awesome Marie! :D Yours is so nice and conversational, I feel like mine is kinda, "daah I like Animorphs"...XD They really did help me on the A.P. bio test, though: I froze when I was asked about the corpus callosum, and then I remembered, holy crap, I just read about this in Visser!
Here's mine!

EDIT: Yes, my earlier video was accidentally PAUL SIMON...XD No, I did not send Paul Simon in to Jake, haha...

Someone on the Hirac Delest Facebook page pointed out that KA and Grant might want to consider including some of the fan projects that have been done, as a further proof that the fandom is still healthy and passionate. I thought the Radio Drama's "Map of Weirdness" is a nice visual of Animorphs fans: http://www.animorphs-uncensored.com/the_map_of_weirdness/ ...and that's just those who call into the show.
-
Holy! Is it too late now?!
Crapcrapcrapcrap!!!
-
Nope, I think they're still looking for them...isn't early August the deadline?
-
ya know, I was thinking, if the rerelease does well then there's the potential for a new TV series :-\....

RAF has a world map (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5049.0) too. I wonder if we could combine them? Speaking of that, I need to update it! It's a month behind.

Oops, sorry! I didn't know about the map because I don't visit RAF often, but I am pumped about the re-release! Combining them sounds like a great idea, I'll look into it; I bet Google provides a way. Any other Ani-maps I should know about? :D
-
Google has a solution for everything. ^_^
And don't apologize! I didn't know about the Radio Drama's map, either! How cool!
-
Well, Google sort of had a solution. ;D I just ended up importing the current version of one map into the other. If there's interest in maintaining a comprehensive map, I'll figure out a solution that will update automatically. (This one is just the people that were on both maps as of today.)
Animorphs Fans (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&z=2&msid=106355024645528289686.00048bff3abf0896e9310)

It looks like someone drew a no weirdness circle around little rock, not where I'd expect that to be :)...
I love the "in the beginning before the zombies..." part
What exactly is the animorphs uncensored anyway, I never heard of it, and i'm only getting bits and peices from their site
-
ACK! BALLS! I would LOVE to make a video! But my stupid laptop won't take videos, it works for video calling and such, but not for taking video. D: Maybe I can try and use the external, but that thing has HORRIBLE quality. :(
I love the videos y'all have posted this far! XD
Post Merged: July 25, 2010, 10:50:57 AM
Also, (I love the merge feature. :D) there's another RAFmap, too. If it helps. Ity Bity Teeny Weeny RAFcon or some such was the name of the thread, I'll find it in a bit. :) We actually had a great deal of members on there, anyone know if that map still works?
-

It's a radio show that some college kids started. They basically read the Animorphs books over the air, but with many tangents and comments. You can download most of the episodes there if you want to listen. I think it's pretty awesome and they've "evangelized" Animorphs to a lot of their friends and listeners.

I was thinking about something... I have 2 way to make videos, with my webcam or with my camera. The videos made with my webcam are pretty lame... The videos made with my camera are way better, but I never could modify them. I mean, Movie Maker and 1 or 2 other software to modify videos just can't read them!
So maybe, if I make a video with my camera, KAA&MG won't be able to cut a part from it... or even put it together with other videos! What do you think, guys?

I dunno... I would think maybe the problem is your software. What type of file does it save video as? o.O my iPod nano saves the video as .mp4 so I would think editing shouldn't be a problem. I thought that had been pretty standard for a while??

My camera make them as .MOV
Here an example, if you or KAA&MG want to try to modify it, and tell me if you/they can:
http://damegdl.free.fr/Perso/CIMG3312.MOV (http://damegdl.free.fr/Perso/CIMG3312.MOV) (Manga Museum of Kyoto, special cosplay party, summer 2009)
I just can read them and of course add them on Youtube. But as I can't modify them, I couldn't put together some videos, what I wanted to do before adding them on Youtube T_T So if you find a way, any way, to modify them, you'd really help me!
-
Dameg, here's a video tutorial of how to convert MOV files so you can edit them with Windows Movie Maker. I downloaded the converter and tried it out on the file you posted, and it did convert it successfully. I don't have Movie Maker to check if the converted file can actually be edited, but it's the right type of file, so it should work.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ddzZUasn10
Happy editing!
-
It works!!!! Oh, thank you very much ^^ I can make a beautiful video now!! I just have to find what can I say on it... lol ^^'
-
The videos posted thus far are looking good. It makes me wish I had the necessary equipment to make my own video. Keep up the great work!
-
Where did you see the videos??
-
There were two (maybe more) posted on page four of this thread.
-
How did I miss them? I saw Myitt's video only yesterday on Youtube, and I totally missed Marie's video >_<
They're awesome!
How much time do we still have?
-
KA/MG said they were presenting the videos in early August. As far as I understand it, they're taking clips from what we send them and editing them into one comprehensive presentation. In order to give them time to edit the videos, I would aim to have your portion submitted to them this week, if possible.
Hopefully KA & MG will give us an update letting us know exactly how much time we have left, but I'd guess the sooner the better!
-
OK. I registered myself, but I still have to cut the dog-barking and train-passing and Dameg-screwing parts ^^' and of course to add the subtitles. So one week must be enough.

Awesome video, Dameg! Very funny and brings up great points, very well said! :D
-
Awesome, Dameg. I love it!
-
Really? I'm glad you like it, I'm really reassured. Because I don't like to speak in front of a camera, I'm very very bad at it! And I was afraid to act stupid, or to say stupid or useless things... For this 1 min 30 sec video, I spoke in front of my camera maybe 30 minutes ^^' talking, deleting, repeating... If my neighbors heard me, they must be convinced now that I'm insane. (And of course I am, but I usually try to hide it, and I hide myself a lot from the neighbors...)
I hope it'll be OK for KAA&MG.
-
I really did love it, and I was totally charmed by your French! ;) Seriously, though, it's a great way for the publishers to see how important these books are to people all across the world. Your video sends a more powerful message than just "these books are great, and here's why," simply because it is in French! Also, your humor is great, and the points you bring up are wonderful. Great work, Dameg!
-
^^' Thanks. I didn't think you'd like it so much lol But I forgot how much you love the French accent...
-

i hate speaking in front of a camera -- was too lazy to memorize the lines. XD
-
great videos you guys!!
-
Awesome job, Delta! And welcome to RAF!
-
That's awesome, delta! Fantastic job, welcome to RAF!!
-
Ack, is it almost August already? Man, I really need to get my video done. Been meaning to record it all week.

Wait, when is this due by? Early August? Any exact due date? I think I'm going to try to overcome my camera shyness and do a video. Hopefully I'll be able to get a day off from work soon and have time to do it!
-
I feel better to know I'm not the only one who have difficulties to speak in front of a camera
Nice job, Delta! I wanted to do like you, but I couldn't put my camera on my computer, it's was difficult... and I would never look at the camera. You could look at the camera sometimes ^^ so it's cool!
Anyway, welcome on RAF! Write your introduction, please, so everybody can welcome you correctly ^^
And yeah, everybody, hurry up! Be brave, it's only a hard time to make the video, but when it'll be finished you'll feel better ^^
If some of you, anybody, need help for the subtitles, I can make subtitles like mines (see my video) very easily and quickly. I just need to have the text in English and to know approximatively when the sentences begin and finish. If you want to do it by yourself, you can use Media Subtitler, it's what I use for the subtitles. It's better than the text edition on Movie Maker, for subtitles.
-
Mine is done! :D Sending it right now... Or actually, waiting for it to upload to hotmail so I can send it...
EDIT: It's sent, and now uploading to YouTube.
EDIT2: YouTube'd!

Awesome job, Ani! :D
-
Done!

I kept it short and sweet. Otherwise I would've gone on for about ten years. :P
-
Awesome, awesome, squee! There are so many of us now, hooray for us all getting behind this idea :D
-
you guys are amazing!! im too shy to make a video and dont know what to say :P
-
@AniDragon: Shhhhhh!!! You spoiled a little ;) lol But very nice video ^^ You explain very well.
@Terenia: Very nice too ^^ You're as cute as always ;)
@Patty: Oh, please try! I wanna see your video! I also didn't know what to say at the beginning, but then I took a pen, a sheet, and I started to write... And the day after, I re-wrote it better, and I made my videos. Ideas come. Begin by presenting yourself, and then think about what is Animorphs for you. I'm sure you can do it!
I'd also like to see Claire/Peter's video... What are you doing, Pete?? >_<
-
Awesome job, Ani and Jessi! You guys rock!!
You should do it, Patty! :) You can plan it, like Dameg said, or you could just go "Falkner-style" and talk to the camera in stream-of-consciousness! Anything to show your support!
-
Faulkner......*shudder*......
Do it, Patty! :D
-
I'm totally going to do this Faulkner-style. Except my words will be less pretty and more babbly. I love Faulkner.

Animorphs is a fish?
-
Hm? What did I spoil? *confuzzled*
Mine was unplanned. Thus all the cutting I had to do. Most of the places where you see a cut was from me having a brain fart. I had to cut out a LOT of scenes of me staring blankly ahead, followed by an f-bomb.
-
Lol maybe. Maybe ill get jack involved too.
-
Yes you should totally make a vid, Patty!
I had tons of "oh ****" moments where I had to start over XD
-
Yeah, for only 40 seconds or so I had to do like twenty takes, lol. AND mine was scripted. Oi!
-
well. .... tomorrow is the due date eh?

lol "brain fart", exactly what I have too ^^ Cool expression! I'll keep it!
And the spoils were about the bad Andalites and the good Yeerks ;)
-
Oh, yeah, I guess it's a bit of a spoiler... But not a very specific one.

Hopefully ;) And don't worry, if KAA&MG don't want to spoil, they can cut the few words about that. ^^
So who's next? I really enjoy watching this videos!
-
Ive tried to do something like this, Im able to get everything lit and lookin pretty, but when I hit record, I'm an absolute mess. lol
I guess I'm just not as comfortable speaking to a camera as I need to be in order to do something like this. no amount of jump cuts can fix it either.
-
i'm so glad if i got the right idea!i own 2 Animorphs books and i bought them from a used book since i was born 1999 and just found the serise in grade 3
-
I only just found out about this today. Is it too late to submit my own video?

No clue, there wasn't an actual date put in the letter from AppleGrant. Might be worth sending one in just in case. :)
-
I forgot all about this...was going to make a video too :( I'll have to watch all of yours instead
-
I'm doing my best to help spread word of this, I've made threads about it on two other forums I frequent, as well as a post to ye olde blog. :P

Did any of you who posted a video receive any answer from them?
I sent it about 2 weeks ago, and I asked an answer in my email just to know if they received it. And I had no answer.
How can we know they received our videos correctly?
-
I didn't hear anything back from them either, Dameg. I'm just going to assume they got it.

Yes, they got them. However, not all of them made it into the final edit since they arrived too late, and I have no idea which ones were in their presentation. The meeting apparently did go well, and Michael Grant said that he wishes to thank everyone who participated (He would have done it himself, but he's incredibly busy at the moment).

I wonder if we'll ever get to see the final version of the video, or if that's all wrapped up under secretive tape stuff and copyright and all that?
-

-
Yeah, somehow I don't think that's going to happen :dull:
