Title: May 17, 1996
Post by: wolfev on July 08, 2008, 12:39:45 AM
What was your first impression of The Animorphs. Lets just pretend for a moment ints May 17, 1996 and that The Invasion just came out. What did you all think. Just disregard the rest of the series and give predictions and thoughts on the series from only book 1.

uh...IF i read it when it first cam out, I'd probably think cool. I want to read more. after all, that's what happened when I first read it. yeah, it wasn't the first book i read, but the other books didn't make sense at all until I read #1. I wouldn't spend money on the books everytime it came out though (because I don't have any money). I'd wait until they were in libraries.

Hmm what did I think about animorphs when I was 8... man so long ago...

I remember thinking about how cool it was and how I wished I was an animorph :P

The first book was great, and I had number two so I read that straight away too

Let's take a look into Touquie's mind after she first read the first book.

Quote
Man, that was so cool!  I wish I could do that :(  Maybe if I think really hard...hmm...nothin g.  Maybe I need to try even harder...nope, still just me.   I guess my powers haven't come yet.  Oh well, I guess I'll just keep reading Animorphs.

I remember that I thought it was really cool.  I urged all my friends to read it as well.

The first book I read was #8: The Alien. There were some things that didn't make much sense, and later I figured out it was a little ways into the series. Really, I was just picking out some books at a bookstore I had never been to before.

It was funny, exciting, and I knew I wanted more. That's about all I remember. I think by the time I found Animorphs, around fifteen books had come out.

My sister had the first few Animorphs books - 1-12 - and I got more into it than she ever did. My mom started buying them for me after that.

I think I was in the first grade when I first started reading them, so I probably started reading them in '97.

First time I saw it actually was in a Scholastic magazine from school. I read the description and thought it sounded interested (I was in like..5th grade). And I asked my mom to order it for me.

First book had me wanting to read more. Thus, once a month I shelled out $5 for the next installment.

By the time the first book came out, I'd already been anticipating its release and couldn't wait to read it.  I got a little teen magazine with an insert thing that had a sample chapter for a promotional item, and the cover image, and I thought "WHOA, AWESOME!  I can't wait to read this!"

So, within a month after the official release, I found my way into the bookstore, and...got even more hooked...

I got hooked on Animorphs years after that. Think 1999. A random read, and I can't even recall which one was my first book. I think it was The Conspiracy! Something about the green cover with Jake morphing the peregrine falcon got me, I thought the book would be one thing and got something else t-o-t-a-l-l-y better. Before I knew it I was immersed in the whole Animorphs side of the whole alien war. I also remember being a little paranoid of Yeerks potentially being anyone around me... and so on...

I didn't start getting into it until around Book 4 or 5 I think, as my friend Ryan had been reading it from the beginning and was telling me about it, so I caved and decided to start reading, but I couldn't find the first bunch ANYWHERE, so when the next book order came in, I just ordered the newest one (Can't remember if it was book 4 or 5), and then just ended up getting the first bunch later on when there was a boxset released in the Book Order of the first bunch. It required me to get a double of one or two of them, but it also got me the first 3 or 4, which I had not read up to that point.

I obviously loved them, lol.

I didn't read them when they first came out, as they weren't released here straight away, and the first book I read was book 5. Having said that, I'm sure that if I had read book 1 in 1996, I would have found it just as awesome as ever.  8)

I feel embarrassed to admit that I thought it looked boring the first time I saw the first book at Target...Can you ever forgive me?!
Then again, I didn't much like reading at the time, either, so maybe that had something to do with it...
But then I read the second book and was hooked immediately.

I got into them when #3 had come out, and it was the summer before I went into seventh grade.  It was sometime around August and it was blazing hot and my mom and I went to Barnes and Noble so I could look for some Choose Your Own Adventure books (totally addicted to those back then XD).  Near the C's in the kid's section I saw the first three Animorphs and thought...turning into animals plus aliens...I shall use my allowance to buy all three!

I remember walking out into my living room after I'd finished the first one and I said, "oh my crap, this series is awesome."  The beginning of the end, right there XD

Me in 1996, at 10 years old:

"Woah, cool. Hey, Eric! Sean! [my little brothers] Come here, I wanna see if we can turn into the dog!!!"

I got #1 in 1998, 7 years old. Along with #2-#5 because my father, who bought it, liked the covers. I was too young to read it seriously back then. It was my sister who went all crazy about it. Years later it was me.

My sister had the first few Animorphs books - 1-12 - and I got more into it than she ever did.

That' pretty much how I got in to the series, my younger sister started requesting the books when we were like in Middle School and I picked them up for her since they always seemed to come in when I was at the library~  ^-^ though, my older brother was the first person to ever get in to the series when it first came out. But um, I was like four or five then, so my reading level and my maturity wasn't high enough for Animorphs lol. Buut, when I first read it, I remember thinking: UUUGGGHHH, SCI-FI, BOOOORRRIIINNGGG. Pretty much same way when I first heard of the series too.

Though I fell in love with the series later when I got bored at home and picked up one of the books my sister was so obsessed with. xP I read # 14 first and actually went "wowzers, a main character WHO'S BLACK? NO WAY", aaand, that's all I remember. I think I kept going from fourteen for a while and then went back and read 1-13 and was all "Ohhhhhh! Now it makes sense!" XD
