It was during the David trilogy. I don't really want to read it just to find Ax's attempt at a joke, but I remember he said something.
The Yeerks had destroyed a column at the building where the world leaders were meeting, and the blade ship was projecting a hologram of it. Ax says something, then Marco says "Did Ax just try to make a joke?". I think that's what happened.
I'm curious about what he said, since Ax trying out humor should be a memorable thing.
-
There's this:
<l will go first,> Ax said. <lf I appear to run into an invisible wall and am knocked unconscious and fall toward the ground, you'll know the force field is still too strong at this height.> (book 21)
As well as this:
<Are you telling me he can shoot whatever he's looking at?> I said.
<Yes. It will cause intense pain. As you may have noticed.>
That was as close as Ax ever got to making a joke. And having been on the receiving end of the bald guy's "look," I really didn't find it all that humorous.
(also book 21)

Thanks. The first one gave me a chuckle.
-
The ebooks are awesome. Not to mention quite searchable :-)
-- J.P.

I always imagined Ax with a fay, British accent, so of course it's extra funny when he attempts dry irony.
Also, after reading AC and other books with Andalites; I've come to the conclusion that Andalites do have a sense of humour, just not Ax ;) :P!

I know, but I'm lazy that way.

Have you listened to the radio show? They give the Andalites British accents. Because of this, the Andalite Chronicles is quite awesome.

-
Yeah, but he didn't have(in my head)a 'regular' British accent. It was 'fay'.
How do you define fay? I'ts sorta hipster/fopish, laidback.
-
So... about this hypothetical British accent for Ax...
Is it going to exist in the audiobooks? :-)
-- J.P.
-
I don't know, ask mrlarry... ::)
And I have a question-are there any actual COMPLETED Audiobooks?
-

Not that I know about. There are a few chapters up, but no complete books.
Personally, I think the audiobooks would work a lot better (and possibly faster) if they could get all the voice actors in one room, but that's probably impossible considering how many people would be involved and that they're probably scattered around the world.

They should do what they did for RAFcast-and is there ever gonna be another one of THOSE??

What exactly did they do for the RAFcast? And I have no clue if there's going to be another one.

we (or rather they before I joined) already tried that with teamspeak. apparently, it didn't work so well.
-
How about Skype?
-- J.P.
-
I think I'm the only one who has skype.
-
I think I'm the only one who has skype.
How would that be an issue? It's free; everyone else can download it. It's worth trying.

fine, I'll mention it in a thread (that is unless you want to)...wait isn't it in chinese...

There's an English version. I have it. And the Skype web page comes up in English. (It definitely isn't in Chinese, though I'm sure they have a Chinese version...)

i've always imagined ax with an australian accent..
-
WOW. Big surprise ::) :P
-
haha.. :P but i mean i've never thought of him with a British accent like some people who aren't from Britian.
-
i imagined them all with Canadian accents (same as americans) except they never said eh, which made me sad

all right, I'll make a thread about it.
-
yea it was more a problem of getting everyone together to record it, especially when alot of times its just a few lines per character and then alot of narration, so it was way too difficult to get everyone together when it wasnt really necessary.
and for RAFcast, we are having the same problem of getting everyone together, and in this case its extremely necessary lol, but there will definately be more
oh and ax is hilarious, i kinda pictured a bit of a british accent on him, very subtle but kinda more distinguished then us drawling yanks
-
Well i did imagine he spoke more precisely than aussie, but yeah.
I like when Ax gets a TV and he starts throwing in quotes from various tv shows/ads..funny haha.
-
Yeah that was funny when he was talking about why he reached over and touched jake or the way he turned his head because thats how they did on the young and the restless. My favorite though was when he said the thing about "These Messages"
-
I always mentally gave Ax the voice of one of my best nerd-friends, because it (Ax's jargon) seemed like the sort of thing he'd say (the friend).
I also gave Visser Three the voice of Tim Curry.
-
I feel sorry of Ax, I mean he's humor-disabled...imagine life w/o jokes & sarcastic remarks?
Wait that was w/ all andalites right? n not just Ax?
-
no arbor had a sense of humor. I think it's mostly just military types that don't have humor.
I can imagine a life without humor.
-
I also think Andalites must have an English accent ;)
But for me, English accent is "normal" for English language... American accent is too strange ;)
(Remember now I also should re-install Skype... so many things!!)
-
I didn't realize americans had an accent. I guess it's only noticeable by people that have different accents.
-
You didn't noticed... @_@ ??
...
...
Yes, they have an accent... a true unbelievable accent! lol
Me too, of course... I have a French accent ^_^
But in French, I don't have any accent... I don't even have the accent of my city, because many people lost it...
-
why are you so surprised I didn't notice?
-
There are MANY American accents. Which one do you mean? Bostonian? New York Brooklyn? New York Manhattan? Illinoisian? Arkansas? Louisiana? Californian? Ohio?
My 'accent' is a vague blend of Southern Illinoisian and Scottish, with a TEEENY bit of Scouse in it. If I get ticked off, I sound downright Welsh, though (according to a friend who used to live in Wales, and would know).
-
Everyone has an accent. Its impossible not to. Unless you are the news media, then you define the standard way of talking and are in a sense, accentless, unless newsanchor is an accent.
-
yeah, unless you don't talk, you have an accent of some sort. Accent is just the inflection and sounding of how you pronounce things, so if you talk, you have YOUR way of pronouncing things, even if it's not abnormal to you it's still an accent.
I happen to have a very specific Califonian accent from a specific area of the city I grew up in, because everyone talked that way so I did too, plus a bit of a midwestern 'curl' to my sounds (no, NOT a southern style) that pops out occasionally, especially now that I'm in the midwest.
-
ok...subject change...
-
Getting back on topic, I believe the joke was,
<... Prince Jake>
"Ax, Don't call me prince"
<OK, I will call you, 'The Jake formerly known as prince'>
-
um...I think we already know that. did you read the first page?
besides, that's not in the david trilogy.
-
yes, I read the first page. and honestly, I can't remember when that was said.
and I don't think anybody has said that yet
-
the one you posted was in #18, not the david trilogy
-
ok
-
b-b-b-benny and the Jets ;)
-
((PS about accents: I see, you must have many different accents... the one I didn't like was when I was in NYC... so may be it's the NY accent lol But I don't see always the difference, just sometimes...
And I speak a little like Daria (in the TV show) but in French, do you think she has an accent? ^_^'))
-
:sign18:
-
Not really... :P
-
I also gave Visser Three the voice of Tim Curry.
Do you know how SCARY that would be
-
Yep. That's why I gave him that voice, unconsciously (until I REALLY thought about it).
-
yeah, unless you don't talk, you have an accent of some sort.
Then Andalites wouldn't have an accent, would they? :P
-
I have created my own accent. I don't know why but it just happened. i sometimes sound British (from the Harry Potter books) I sometimes sound regular to any Southern Massechusettsian, I sometimes sound downright weird (from being me). I hate the way some people pronounce idea I-DEE-er. I once went far enough to actually ask my teacher what that meant when she said idear. or whatever. It is a completely differerent word to me and I get really bothered when it is pronounced like that. So just don't spell it like that here please. Now, to not upset the fftopic police I will say something about the question.
No, I do not have any idea which Ax joke in the David Trilogy it is.
Is it the "Tobias is dead!"
"That is bad."
or something like that. Although that wasn't neccisarily a joke, it was an emotionless responce because he isn't very good at emotion, even for his thought to be deceased shorm.
What was it!?!
-
off topic i know but regarding accents im from connecticut therefore i combine new york new jersey and massachusetts to create no accent at all lol
-
for god's sake if u lot r going to talk about accents make a new thread
-
I also gave Visser Three the voice of Tim Curry.
Do you know how SCARY that would be
oh good, I'm not the only one! :D Tim Curry makes up the majority of my bad-guys, hehe
-
oh god, don't mention Curry :(
just watched RHPS on halloween, really weird.
-
Hey,so did I! For the first time ever!
First it's a jump to the right... ;)
-
No... first it's a jump to the LEFT. THEN a little step to the RIGHT.
Jeeze. Get your pop-culture right, people!! *sarcasm*
;) ;D
-
I also gave Visser Three the voice of Tim Curry.
Me too!!!
Lol wow!
-
i always imagined em all with Aussy accents, but thats only cause i read the words i would hear em every day, until in one book number 14 when Ax is sounding out the syllables when he says possible
possible Pah-Syb-Bull
i was reading it as poh-syb-bull rather than how Applegate was hearing it, Pah-syb-bull
-
i imagend them all with reguler american accents... but Ax i always thought of as slightly british... i dont know why thoug but when i read his lines outloud i always slip into an oxford accent.
-
In Book 35, someone mentions self-help books, and Ax says
<...breathe nessesary air?Consume nessesary nutrients?>
Marco: "Hey! Ax just made a joke!
Ax:<I did?>
....
-
In book 51 when marco morphs the governor to lead the controllers away from her, he get tied up, when ax and tobias show up to rescue him:
Marco thumped his feet on the floor. "Uh-ur-ulph."
Tobias turned. <Did you say something,
Marco?>
"Uh-ur-ulph. UH. UR. ULPH!"
Ax looked at him. Tilted his head. <l believe
Marco is trying to tell us that while he is extremely
happy to see us, he enjoys being trussed
up, and could we please not remove the filthy
satchel from his mouth, as he finds it quite
tasty. >
-
XD that is funny though i don't remember it hehehe i liek it.
