how do they do this? I know its with the eyes but what does that mean?
-
I don't know exactly, but I compared it to humans. When humans smile genuinely, there is a muscle in the corner of the eye that flexes. I kind of compared it to that. Also, it may be one of those things where you just get the impression of a smile.

yeah i thought there stalk eyes formed the shape of a smile i don't know lol

I do the eye-smile all the time. Think of it as a sorta' crinkliness at the outside edges, and the eyebrow-equivalents pull together in the middle, sorta' a sad-but-tender-and-amused look.
-
do andalites have eyebrows?
-
Nope. They have eyebrow-equivalents.
-
what are those?
-
Little wrinkles that appear on your forehead when you smile.
-
oh ok
-
Dis thred iz full of t3h lulz.
-
in english please not l33t

I always imagined the eye-smiling being something done with both their main and stalk eyes, and looking similar to the anime-smile, like ^ ^.

They're Japanese, now?
Samurai Warrior Prince Elfangor-Yokohama-Miyagi!

I always simply thought of it like this:
Get a mirror.
Get a piece of paper.
If you choose, color the paper blue and draw an andalite nose.
Hold said piece of paper over your mouth and nose, look at yourself in the mirrior, and smile.
You have successfully viewed an Andalite smile, ignore the laughter of everyone around you.
But that's just how I imagined it.

Awesome, just awesome
I think that even though they don't have mouths, they still have muscles in the face. I still picture the moreorless check muscle contorting like a normal smile, in addition to the whole wrinkling eye thing.

There is a game you should try.
All you need is a A4 paper and a friend. One of you will hide his/her face behind the paper. He/she covers the mouth but let his/her friend see the eyes. Then the one who hides the face will try to smile without being seen. I don't know anyone who have succeeded yet. Try that, I think it would give you a quite justified picture of what an andalite smile look like. It's what I've allways imagined it to be anyway.

And don't do it in the middle of math class.
