Title: Finding Anifans
Post by: Mr. Guy36 on January 14, 2009, 09:23:49 PM
Have you guys ever tried to find any other fans of the series?

I once recommended this site to some random girl in the library who was reading #26. I don't think she ever did anything, but if she sees this, that was me. Hi.

Also, we did this really cheesy computer dating survey at school as a fundraiser. A bunch of us just had fun with it, and I didn't feel like putting down my real name, so I became Tobias. (Yes, I should really be Jake, but Tobias's name is more recognizable.)
Unfortunately, the only person I've seen get it is Larka.

I haven't met any other Anifans -- but then again I tend to hold my cards close to my chest, if you get my meaning.

Would be nice, though.  And meeting RAFians in the flesh, too.

i've never met any RAFfians.
and it's been SO long since we used that video program (what was it called?).
i think you guys stopped going to that site right after i joined.

i remember getting some friends into the series, but i never met anybody else that openly expressed their love of animorphs.

I was introduced to the series by an semi-enthusiastic Ani-fan, but she's into Twilight now  ::) I tried getting my best friend into the series, but she doesn't like reading any books other than those narrated by Ax.

I'm still trying to find French AniFans...
And when I meet/find/see AniFans, I tell them about RAF and tell them to come ^^'

Joe.  Remember when we were talking to him about Animorphs in the booth?
Title: Re: Finding Anifans

Oh yeah! That was fun. Mike was a little confused, though. I don't think Joe really realized the acoustics of the booth, though.
For all you others, our school's lighting booth tends to amplify and project all the sound into the aud. So, there have been some interesting incidents with sudden loud sounds emanating from the booth.

There's really none here.
if they're into a book series, it's twilight. only a small majority like other series.

In my school, out of, like, thousand or so people, I found only one person who likes Animorphs currently.
There was another person who used to own some books for the longest time (who gave me her old books, still awaiting 26). And another person who owns 54. No one else that I've heard of.

Yeah I find people who used to read it, but never people who still read it. When I wear my Animorphs t-shirt I don't get anyone saying anything, but I get looks from people like "aren't you too old to be wearing that"  ::)

And I had answers from 4 French AniFans, 3 will probably come on FRAF, 2 will maybe come on RAF.

Hello. Im new here.........obviou sly.

I have never met another aniphan....period, even when I was reading them and they first came out, though they were vastly popular. Which brings me to a question (this maybe should be another thread but Im gonna put it here, a mod can move it if they see fit), how old are you guys? I saw that one of you was 22 (my age exactly) and lives in texas (my state), and another said 11, though I havent looked into a lot of the posts here.

I ask because I havent read these books since 7th grade. I was obssessed with them from 5th through 7th grade, and since finishing the series, havent picked one up since. I got bored and started looking up nostalgic things from the past and thought of this book series. Meant the world to me when I was a kid. I read all the books and side books, though never saw the TV show. The themes were very deep for a child that age. I was surprised to see that they were rated for 3rd through 5th graders. I know a kid that age certainly can read and enjoy the books, the vocab isnt hard, but the story and mature themes seemed a little older to me. I mean, the characters themselves were 13 or so when it started and jake was 16 when it was over (I think), so I guess I always pictured the books for middle schoolers, or kids the age or close to the age of the characters in the book. I know I grew up and aged with the books over the two or three years they came out, along with the characters themselves.

I recently bought a lot of the complete series, side books and all, off of ebay for 110 bucks. I bought them to hold on to a nostalgic peice of my childhood, but mostly to hold for my children, should I ever have any. I havent decided for sure if im going to try and read them again, I would feel childish at this age if I did, but there is much I cant remember, and much more that I would like to. I just worry that reading it now would ruin the picturesque ideal I have in my head of what the books use to mean to me, which at the time I was reading them, was a lot. Revisting certain things, like old shows or cartoons from those day, has indeed shattered  my old ideas of what exactly it was, and what it meant to me at the time, and lead to a general disenchantment of the memories I carried. I wouldnt want to do that with this series. Anyway, so yeah, ages anyone? Am I alone on memory lane?

Deadgumit, I just turned 25 and i started rereading the series from reading it origianlly ten years ago. I didn't find that my view of the books or the characters changed much. In fact, I think it adds perspective now that I am older.

I recommend that maybe once in a awhile grab a book that you bought from ebay and go through a few chapters. I completed 50 of the books in two months... Its what I do to wind down after a long day of work. I too, want to save the books for my future kids, however I like reading them myself.

Acutally the first book I ever read was book 2, that my mother had bought and started reading first. I wouldn't put an age limit on these books. The themes such as morality of war are not simply for middle schoolers.

The ironic thing is... there are lots, I mean, LOTS of Animorphs fan in my school. At least a huge bunch of my friends are.
And those publisher stopped translating the books because it didn't reach the expected number of reader.

Funny, because every Anifan I've met curse the stopping. And all of them agree that this book is good.

Wow! It's crazy to think that I was born nearly ten years before you were... I wouldn't have guessed you were that young judging from your posts. You seem far more mature and older. I think my family had just gotten the internet for the first time ever when I was your age. Times certainly have changed...

Anyways, I have some questions for you. First, how did you even get into this series? It was popular when you were still too young to even read. Second, does this series carry that "childish" and "nerdy" association as it does for your generation as it does for mine? Unfortunately, Animorphs is typically associated with 90's nostalgia and book-fairs, so it doesn't get the recognition and respect that I think it should.

is it ok if I answer those question? I'm 14 so it shouldn't be that much different, right?

ah well...
1. I got into it years after the last book was published. the library had a lot of animorphs books, and I happened to like animals...
2. no... but in case it makes a difference, I pretty much live under a rock...

Actually two of my friends already were anifans before I started reading the series. One of them let me read part of a book, I think it was the seventh, I had no idea what was going on and found it boring, I only read the first chapter. I started reading the series about two years ago when I found a whole bunch of them in my town library. I began reading them and realized it was the same series of the books both my friends were reading and began to talk to them about it. nether of them finished the book series, one only could read up to 34 and the other only to 13.

I can't find anyone around here who still enjoys Animorphs, so I've made it my mission to convert as many friends as possible!

So far 2 of them haven't even finished one book, and 5 refuse to read it just to spite me  :'(

It wasn't me who found an anifan. It was the anifan who found me.
I was holding book 4 in a study hall one afternon (study halls are long, they seem to drag on and on) and all of a sudden, this dude comes up to me. And asks "what number is that?" I asked if he knew animorphs, and he answered that he read some animorphs books that he found at the library, 1-24, I think. That shocked me.

I'm currently trying to download the tv series so I can force my friends to watch it.  I'm hoping once they've been tied to a chair for 3 days watching the show they might actually be interested enough to read the books.

That would be awesome!  Then I can convince my former controller friend to take me to the yeerk pool where I'll somehow find a way to track down the andalite bandits and blackmail - I mean convince them into making me an animorph!   :o

well.. no one my age here would read animorphs.. I even mentioned it to a few people at work since i reordered all the books on ebay today. I think they think I'm nerdy, and I am!
I found an anifan.. that's how my friend Rose and I became best friends in middle school. I walked by her locker and she had an animorphs book and since then we were friends! That was so long ago.. maybe 11 years i dont know.

In my old favorite forum (animorfic.com) I posted pics of several bumper stickers I had on my car and where the car could be found.  All were animorphs bumper stickers http://earlyauthorincrime.zoomshare.com/index.shtml/2 (http://earlyauthorincrime.zoomshare.com/index.shtml/2)  (you have to click to enlarge to see that they are a better quality then they first appear)

I then offered a free coffee to anyone who spotted the car.  No one who knew about the car found me.  But I got some interesting questions at work.

Also:  Just two days ago, I was discussing "embracing your shame nerd" with a fellow world of warcraft player and mentioned the Animorphs.  To my absolute delight, we spent the next hour discussing Animorphs.

Not in real life. I did wonder who it was that checked out the first book at work just before it was weeded, but never found out.

Online, I just had to Google. BTW yunyun, check out the LJ community...you have to register, but we're moderately active. Just ask AniJen23.

Whatevs, I'll bring it back to the topic.
Yesterday at IKEA a random 30 something year old man approached me. I was creeped out at first, but all he wanted to tall me was that he thought it was cool that I was reading TAC.
