I read MM3 this weekend, and this morning was thinking how what Cassie and Marco said about Jake only being willing to sacrifice himself.
I wonder what his thoughts on that were, by the end it clearly wasn't the case, but when did he consciously realize that. Did he really belief going in that he was the only possible casualty, or would he have considered that Crayak may have wanted someone else

Oh wow, never thought about that. This is a great question. Actually, if you think about it, Crayak could only have wanted one particular Animorph, Rachel, if he wanted someone else than Jake....Really interesting...

Well if he's demanding death he should go after Cassie, leave Jake with the crushing guilt for losing a teammate and the crushing grief of losing who he loved most, but then Crayak never seemed into torture, physical or psychological, just death, which is why he took Jake over Cassie (and a bunch of the other stuff he did). I'd think he would want to kill Rachel the least, and wonder how that would be considered in knowing his demands
