Wow, bringing back memories
« on: February 17, 2010, 12:32:18 AM »
Hey everyone!

I used to read Animorphs when I was much younger and at some point I phased out of them to read other "more mature" books, or so I thought at the time. I started really early. I don't remember my exact age, but I recall eagerly anticipating the next book release. I specifically remember being excited about The Message, since I loved dolphins, so it was fairly early in the series. The other day, a friend of mine mentioned something about how cool it would be to be a bird, and I thought back to the books I used to love. I never finished the series, only getting to about #40.

In the past week, I have spent late nights splitting my time between finishing up my senior year in college and reading all of the Animorphs books past #40. I'm astounded by how much it has brought back my interest in the series, especially since I always regarded it as a kid's series. I was a little ashamed at first that I was so obsessed at my age, but after seeing how many older people are also still interested, it really cheers me up. I assumed that this forum was old and obsolete, and then I saw that the authors were answering questions as recently as yesterday! That is spectacular!

Anyway, I plan on re-reading the whole series, although I hope to do it a little slower and not skip out on any homework. So, that's a basic introduction of my memories of the series. Here's some basic info as more of an introduction: My RL name is Andy. I'm 22, and I currently live in Ohio in the United States. I'm a university student finishing up my senior year of Aerospace Engineering.

I'm looking forward to browsing around the forum. I love to re-read books (just ask my incredibly worn Star Wars collection), and Animorphs was no exception, so I still remember quite a bit. I'm a little sad that the series ended, but the last few novels were so well-written that I feel no disappointment in the way it ended. Here's to bringing back fond book memories and making new ones!

*Anifans anonymous voice* Hi Andy!

Oops sorry ^^'
Hm... wHELLcome, Andy-black!
I'm Vis... I'm Dameg, another RAFian. Come with me, please, I have something to show you. It's here, after this door *Open a heavy door* We call them the RAFprojects. *Lead Andy to a long and dark hallway, with many doors, some in the dark, some with light coming from the other side. Arrive near the first door* Here at your left...

- The Ebooks project: [Help wanted!] Animorphs (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0), Remnants (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html <= finished), Everworld (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html <= almost finished, it's our current priority, we need help to correct the volume #3 and check all the volumes to be sure there is no missing page) and GONE (new project, the scans aren't made yet); the Everworld/Animorphs ebooks need to be cleaned a little (mistakes, missing pages, we don't know where the chapters begin and finish, etc.) so if you wanna be a correcter... call me, I head that projects. As you want to re-read all the series quietly, why wouldn't you read the ebooks instead of the real books and help us? :pwease:

Facing it is...

- RAFipedia: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=22.0, an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);

Next it's...

- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0, a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel;

and here...

- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html, a Webcomic headed by Gafrash.

You also have...

- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html, we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...);

here and facing it is...

- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html, a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks;

Next door is for the special project:

- http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html: the adventures of the RAFians;

At the end it's for the little projects:

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html to make the planets we hear about in Animorphs;

- the paper-RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^;

- the RPG project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html to make a video game about Animorphs, with RPGmaker;

- the Command-line game project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html for another kind of video game about Animorphs;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html where we count all the people killed by the Animorphs;

- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735, where we make songs and sing them...

and some other projects who come and go. Please check the list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html

*Standing in front of Andy* I hope you enjoyed your visit. Oh, and I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller.

Now I have to go, I don't invite you for the meal, sorry, today we have Visser 7 for dinner and... well, you wouldn't like to meet him ^^' *Beginning to go down dark stairs. Andy can hear a cry coming from the cave.*
Have fun!
*Dameg disappears into the darkness, Andy is now alone in the hallway*

Why, hello there, Andy!  Welcome to RAF!  Glad to have another AniFan come to our side!

But...I'm afraid I'm going to have to take your sanity.  RAF...sanities...do n't really mix, ya know?  And if you refuse...I'll lock you in a dark room, rip it out of the top of your head, put it in a green glass bottle and throw it down the mysterious chute, which is purely coincidence that there is a sign that says "Incinerator" above it.

Ahem.  Just kidding...sorta.

Anyway, a word of advice, that I give to all new members.  If you're having technical difficulties with RAF, just PM one of our mods!  They are Richard, Esplin Elsen, Goom, Phoenix004, and SuperClaire.  If they change their names, just look for
this red font and name or this blue font and name.

Once again, I'm sure you'll have a great time here!  Welcome!

Welcome to RAF, Andy! Yeah, you're certainly not the only twenty-something to be in love with this series! What are your post-graduation plans? When I was younger, I wanted to be an aerospace engineer and work for NASA... at least until I discovered that would involve science. :P Needless to say I have a healthy respect for you! Well, we look forward to getting to know you better! Sign on RAFchat or Skype some time; it's a great way to get to meet your fellow RAFians!

"blackholeinacan" ? Haha... love it. Strikes me as kind of a heavy can. Well, depending on the black hole, I guess...

So, welcome to RAF. This community is definitely still alive- and definitely still obsessed with a childrens' book series from the '90s. It's okay, though, because it's awesome ("it" being both RAF and Animorphs, I guess), and loads of entertaining. So... enjoy yourself around here! You're bound to find something to love. And since you're an Animorphs fan who's now been relieved of sanity, you'll fit right in ;D
