What did you think when you read MM 3 for the 1st time?
« on: March 04, 2012, 06:37:18 AM »
I'd literally just finished 29 (I think it's the secret) when I read Elfangor's Secret
I started reading it, and it was going on about Melissa and slaves and stuff I was like, "What? Oh, must be something in book 30..." I waited for ages while I ran over books, read 30 etc Still couldn't work out why Melissa knew about the Animorphs and there was slaves... I was so confused! So, then I just thought, "Oh, well, I'll just read it." If I'd just read one more page I would have found out what was going on! I was such an idiot back then  :XD:

What did all of you think? Hopefully it wasn't as crazy as my story  :XD: :XD:

At first I didn't like it, but after I read it a few times it's actually one of favorite books.

On the first reading, I actually flipped to the cover a couple times and went 'wait, what book is this?  Cassie with slaves?  What?!'  Definitely a plot-twister well done.  :XD:

When I first read it, I was confused. I was like, 'what happened to Rachel? Why's millisa there? Why does Cassie have a slave?' but then, once I got to the part that explained all that, I loved that book

I knew there had to be some explanation as to what was going on, so I just kept reading until I got to it.

That's my favorite Megamorphs book, and I remember worrying that there wouldn't be another good one after reading MM2.

At first I was alright with it, I thought that there had been a typo when it said Melissa's name instead of Rachel's. Then tobias said "and even the slaves seemed to be having fun" or something like that, I was like . then proceded to read further and figure the rest out.  One of my favriote books.

I'll admit I flipped through the book looking for more Melissa chapters.

I've seen quite a few fanfictions where people explored the idea of Melissa as an Animorphs. One was a continuation of the alternate universe presented in MM3 and it was actually pretty well written.

So, the way I remember it, I was a very smart 11 year old and totally got that something weird was going on.

What I'm pretty sure actually happened: "What? ...Wait, what? Wh--Why? WHAT?"

I think that about sums up my reaction pretty well.

X3 I figured out something was up. My first reaction to the slave comment was, "Wait, what the hell?!"

Knowing me, I probably slightly skipped ahead just to kill the confusion. ;) Plus, Crazy Leader Jake was just hilarious.

I can totally see those reactions LOL. I have a habit of reading ahead and even looking online for plot info anyway, so things rarely surprise me.

I had kind of already read a rough plot synopsis so I sort of had an idea of what was going on. So, I didn't really get confused. I do love that book though.

Honestly, I don't remember! But I think I was confused, but figured this was some alternate reality. Even at 12, I was able to figure that much out. I mean, we'd met the Ellimist . . .

In the alternate universe, were Melissa's parents Controllers?  If so, how would she avoid rousing their suspicions?

I found it interesting that a BLACK girl owned a slave!

Are slaves allowed to join the Sharing?

Don't know, but if they were, same way Jake avoided Tom's. Lying

When I first read MM3, I was weirded out by that opening. It was like "What the hell am I reading??!"

I got weirded out. Then I continued reading. After it got cleared up, I loved it. It's my favourite Animorphs title of all time, possibly due to my partiality towards time travel/war/history stories which has always been a favourite genre of mine, but it did hit me in the feels and really leave me thinking afterwards. And jotting down a few Time Matrix RAF ficlets. ;)
