I sounded relieved,
"Thanks, cousin. Her class is so frustrating. See you in school!" I hung up and thought about his reply. We really needed to come up with an easier-to-understand code in the future...but I got that he was giving me the OK to morph dog and letting me know that everyone else would be seagulls, or at least some of them. I called down to my mom, "Can I go over to Jake's later? He says he's free to help with my homework! I won't need dinner!" She called back up,
"Okay, don't come back too late!" I then shut my door, locking it. There was no such thing as being too careful. I then focused on the energetic German shepherd in my mind. There was a shlooping sound as I felt two triangular ears sprout from my head. My arms and legs itched as fur sprouted from them. I stopped suddenly as my hands began to shrink and fingers began to melt together. It would be awkward to be stuck in my clothes. I pulled them off with great difficulty and just as I was about to continue, I caught sight of myself in the mirror. "Gross..." I still had my human mouth but I was looking at a kind of werewolf in the mirror. Closing my eyes so that the image didn't distract me further, I continued my morph. A tail grew suddenly and I felt my insides begin to shift. It made me feel ill, the sensation of bones grinding and organs shifting, knowing that it probably should hurt but didn't. I then fell forward, my newly morphed hind legs and front legs supporting me. My head rapidly changed into canine form, snout extending from my face. As the morph finished, I felt pretty neat-
I sniffed the clothes on the floor. Human scent. I searched for more scents but the same smell emanated from the bed, the clothes, the whole room. I sat, panting. Where was the human? Was she my human? I wanted to find her and play. I chased my tail briefly for fun before stopping when it turned out I couldn't catch it. Where was my human? I padded over to the door and tried to open it by headbutting it gently. The door didn't move. I was stuck in here. I started to whine gently, pawing at the door.
"Rachel, what is going on up there?" A voice! Was that my human? I whined louder. "Is there a dog in your room?" I heard footsteps and bounded around the room energetically, footsteps meant someone fun would come and play! Then the voice was right at my door. "Rachel?" I tilted my head. Was that my human's name? Rachel-
<Yah!> I yelled, luckily in private thought-speak. I focused on myself and began to demorph as quickly as possible. This time round, I tried something different. I couldn't answer the door to my mom naked! I focused on clothing tight enough that it could be like skin as it looked as if we couldn't morph loose clothing. I imagined me in one of my gymnastics leotards. I think it was the fastest I'd demorphed yet and I was pleased to see that the idea of morphing skintight clothing worked. I opened the door sheepishly. My mother raised her eyebrows at me. "Sorry. I was trying to practise one of my routines and I saw someone walking their dog out the window and got distracted."
"It's not nice to tease dogs." My mom said disapprovingly and I hung my head. "And can you be careful with the door?" She'd assumed that I'd been doing something like kicking off the door for a somersault or something. I nodded and she left. I shut the door behind her and sighed with relief. Those instincts had been unexpectedly strong. But now I knew about them. I considered practising my new seagull morph but the quick morphing had left me really tired. I put on my clothes on top of my leotard and went downstairs.
"Actually, practising makes me hungry..." I commented, fixing myself up a couple of sandwiches- nothing too heavy for later. As I ate them, my mother shook her head at me, confused. I would head out to the barn soon, I decided, just in case everyone was making plans and I wasn't there to hear them.
