"Oh, yeah, I do," the strange pilot woman told Tia darkly, still aiming down at Kaitlyn with both hands.
Corliss stepped back even further, almost touching the invisible ship with his back, his jacket ruffling in the wind. "Get out of here, Illrid," he snapped. "Before one of us gets trigger happy."
He then addressed Aurora without keeping his eyes off Kaitlyn/Illrid. "Aurora, I think you should get on the ship now, mate, because we don't have a lot of time," he said. Almost as if on cue, a couple of people came storming out of The Sharing building: one middle-aged Asian man who looked like a bouncer, and the well dressed woman Iniss/Chapman had been talking to and they had all run into earlier.
The burly man glared at the scene before them, glancing up at the spot where the hovering ship floated, invisible. He had already drawn his Dracon. "What is the meaning of this, traitors?" he roared. "Get that ship out of here!"
Corliss blinked at them, then smiled. "Well, mate, you asked for it," he said, shrugging, and he hopped on board the ship. Dracon fire lanced after him, hitting the ship's shielding and making it suddenly and briefly visible beneath blue arcs of coursing energy. The beam had flown just over Aurora and Kaitlyn's heads, the heat of its backwash hitting them.
Just a foot or two above their heads, the black, stylized, sharp looking ship listed to one side, sparks flying from its red flashing underside. Two serrated spearlike protrusions were sticking out of the front on either side, like thin insect jaws. An uncomfortable whirring noise reverberated through the air and two spindly, leglike metal landing gears retracted down from the bottom of the ship, like giant black two-toed eagle claws from hell. They almost touched the ground, reaching and retracting, and suddenly the thing had a very buglike appearance to it, all twitching leg gears and red front windows like bulbous glass eyes.
And then it was gone again, as quickly as it had become visible.
Corliss held onto the rim of the hatchway as the ship rocked back. "Whoa...come on, you're gonna get killed out there!" he shouted at Aurora. "Bloody move!"
