Ax not an Animorph?? :/

I just noticed how the Animorphs keep referring to themselves as 'four kids and a hawk- the animorphs, and one andalite.' (or something along those lines
And the blurb tends to say something like 'now the animorphs and ax...'
Is Ax not considered an Animorph or something??  :o

Now obviously he's part of the team, but the term is pretty much used for humans that turn into animals. Plus there's a potential conflict of Ax being an Animorph since he is part of the Andalite military.
So yeah, while's he's "one of them" he is not one of them, spare rare occassions, in name

Very true.He is a memeber of the team against the Yeerks,but the orginal Animorphs are Jake,Cassie,Rachel,Marco and Tobias.

I think he said somewhere that he didn't consider himself an Animorph because he was actually what the Yeerks thought the Animorphs were--an Andalite bandit.

     The Animorphs were a human based guerilla group. Ax wasn't human. He's an Andalite and in the Andalite military. While he sees the Animorphs as his friends, he doesn't consider him to be an Animorph.

Didin't Ax refer to himself as in Animorph in one book though? I may be mistaken but I could have sworn he did.

a TV trope where there's a group and there's a certain person who's in the group that is singled out as if he isn't. Often(but clearly not always) used as an insult or for comedic effect when dealing with a member of a group that isn't well liked or useless compared to the other members.  Example: "The Animorphs and Ax" or "My friend's and Zoidberg" or "It's three on three plus Sokka."
