Had a strange thought.

Ever since I learned that Erek King was the name of a kid who won the Scholastic contest, I thought, wouldn't it be cool if the real Erek King had an account here? I mean, do we know anything about that kid?

No, but we should make a website that he may one day stumble across (www.ErekKing.com) that tells him we would enjoy having him as a member. Lets just hope he didn't die in some kind of Accident.
Meh.

That wasn't the only fan-created character, you know. The first time we see a Hork-Bajir seer, in #5, was inspired by someone who, like me, used to go to The Chee Database named Erin Dover.

Her Hork-Bajir character, Daroneasa, is the inspiration for Toby Hamee.
I may seem like an idiot, but trust me: I know what I'm talking about.

Aldrea and Crayak were fan inspired too.

I didn't know that about Toby Hamee. It seems odd that KA never acknowledged that, as she was usually pretty good about giving the fans credit for inspiring her to do things a certain way.

Unlike JK who insists the idea for Harry and Ginny had nothing to do with fans insisting that those two would wind up together.

That well-spoken Hork-Bajir controller was supposed to be a Seer? I never knew that. I just figured the Yeerk took extra effort to learn to speak well.

Though of course I didn't know there were intelligent Horks until much later in the series.

Odd fact: The real Erek King is African-American, while the book Erek is caucasian.

About that Horkie: The term Dover used was Hork-Bajir Thinker. I guess KAA thought that was too insulting to the rest of the species and changed it to Seer for #13/#23/HBC.

Oh crap, I had a brain fart. He said Book #5.

No, that wasn't a Seer. That was one of Visser One's Hork-Bajir. Visser Three's Hork-Bajir were always speaking a mixture of English and the Hork-Bajir tongue. Visser One trained hers to speak perfect English.

That wasn't the Hork-Bajir talking, it was the Yeerk.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest actually.

And then the crystal was gotten rid of.  Did the other Chee even know?

Most likely.  The CheeNet, remember?

Aldrea and Crayak were fan-inspired?  Wow, I didn't know that.  Do we know anything about who came up with either of them?

Not so sure about the who. But in high school, back when they posted KA applegate's responses to fanmail, I used to read it pretty religiously.

Following book 6 there were a lot of requests for a follow up on the Big Red Eye that Jake saw as Temrash was dying. And there were also a ton of requests for a female Andalite characters.

That's why I got so angry with people dissing KA over the ending of the series. Everyone flipping out because of, "Ram the blade ship".

I mean, come on, she gave her readers everything they asked for. Not to mention, she gave us a whole new species on a silver platter to write fanfiction for. She even encouraged the fanfiction authors by making references to them in her responses to the fans.

But that's not for this discussion. Anyhow.

Where did you see that? I used to be part of the fan club or whatever when I was younger and the newsletter had a "WINNER OF THE MORPH YOURSELF CONTEST" thing in it and had the real Erek's entry and picture and he looked pretty white to me...

I can scan and post pictures when I get home later tonight.
And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

I would love to win a contest for my favorite book series, though I never got an opportunity.

Okay found it!
[spoiler]This is from Issue #5 of the Animorphs Alliance News Flash thingy.

And here are the 2nd and 3rd place winners from the backs of books 10 & 12. The second place winner's name was also Eric, spelled differently though. (Sorry I know it's a ****ty scan)

Now to be really creepy... I think this might be the real Erek King all grown up. Omg I'm such a creep D:
