Would you feel violated by this?
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:38:35 PM »
If you were Jake, and found out about this, would you be at angry cassie and Ax?

Excerpt from #8 The Alien

"I see," Cassie said. "You know what? Why don't you morph to human and come inside? You could meet my mom and dad. We're just about to have dinner."

<I have eaten already.>

Cassie raised one eyebrow. "You've eaten, huh?" She seemed about to ask me a question, then decided against it. "Okay, but you could still come in. You don't have to eat much. Just hang out. Come on, it would do you good."

<Do me good? Do I seem ill?>

"No. Just lonely. You seem very lonely." The word pierced me. I was surprised how much it hurt.
Yes, I was lonely. But I didn't think the humans knew. <How would you explain to your family who I was?>

Cassie shrugged. "You morphed Jake once, right? So be Jake."

I...I'd forgotten about this.  Wow.

That is messed up.

I mean, if Jake were to find out, of course he'd be hurt.  And, wow, that would give him and Cassie an opportunity to work through some actual relationship troubles worse than trying to pretend they're not attracted.  And, oh crap, this could make for an interesting fic....

No, not really. I mean I know they're not supposed to morph for irresponsible reasons, but Cassie was getting some correct vibes that Ax was lonely. It was nice of her to hang out with him. It's not like she sat in his lap and cuddled with him or anything. She's not dirty.

Personally, I don't know if I would actually be angry, but I would definitely feel very creeped out.  The idea that somebody else is pretending to be me, even for the right reasons, is just . . . creepy.

As far as Jake's reaction would go, I'd imagine that he'd feel much the same.  I suppose he might be angry at first, but I think Cassie would take all the blame for the idea, and we all know that Jake can't stay angry at Cassie for long.  Mostly I think he'd just be creeped out.

And I agree, this would make for excellent fic material.

Yeah I'm sure some people would be angry at this, but mostly Jake would just be a bit creeped out, or maybe a bit worried that Ax made him look strange, lol.

If it were somebody else, yeah, I might worry. But this is Cassie were talking about. She wouldn't do something like that, really. And, if Jake really knew Cassie and found out, I would hope that he would know that she wouldn't do anything dirty with Ax.

First of all, I think jake might have known it was going to happen before hand! You have to remember that at the time this book was written, everyone in the group was trying to be friendly with Ax, to gain his trust, and to learn his secrets. Part of me wonders if Jake himself didn't, after hearing Cassie talk about how she thought Ax was lonely, order Cassie to bring Ax to meet with her family to try and get him to open up. Even if Jake didn't know about it beforehand, he trusts Cassies judgement. Jake has repeated how much he trusts cassie's opinion with people, and her ideas when it comes to human beings, in nearly every book he was the narrator in.

I don't really think he'd feel creeped out or bothered at all, if anything, I think he would feel MORE love for cassie because of her kind heart.
Meh.

Well, considering Jake had to see a shrink the last time Ax pretended to be him, I would be more than a little concerned. I agree with Poparena that it would have made more sense for Ax to do his own morph. Fortunately Cassie's parents didn't find it at all odd that Jake was behaving rather strangely.

Remember, this is the kid they had over for Thanksgiving. They know him pretty well and they should have picked up on Ax's behavior. Chalk that up to a KASU I suppose.

Personally, I'd find it a little strange, but not violated. As long as nothing happened I would be okay. But I thought Cassie getting Ax to morph Jake was a little hypocritical. I mean, she was the one who thought it was wrong to morph dolphins, because, apparently "dolphins are people too." I know Ax morphed Jake when Jake became a controller, but that's a little different. He had to morph him to cover for Jake. Having him morph Jake because he was a lonely is a different situation entirely.

Umn... all emotional reasons aside (I wouldn't personally mind it for those reasons)...

...is everybody completely failing to notice the glaring breach in security that is happening there?
Cassie has literally zero proof that her family contains no Controllers. She just hasn't seen them doing Controller-isch things. Ax has a tendency to not act very human, when he's in human morph.
In Jake's position, I would be absolutely irate at the completely idiotic risk she is taking by having Ax visit her family as Jake-morph.
But that's just little ol' cautious me. *shrug*
The universe is, instant by instant, re-created anew. There is, in truth, no Past, only a memory of the Past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. The only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.

Didn't this happen two books after they sent Ax to spend three days in a house with a KNOWN controller there? I'd be mad at him if he got mad at her for doing that. Spending one dinner with two possible controllers is not as risky as spending days with a known one.

It's not the act itself that's bothering me as much as Cassie's attitude.  She's the one saying can't morph another human, and she seems way to eager to break her own rules.  Granted her heart was in the right place this time and hindsight has influenced my opinion cause I don't think the whole not morphing people wasn't made clear until book 16.
