Okay, I don't know about the rest of you, but The Drode is OFFICIALLY my very favourite villain in the entire series. He is a self-styled 'wild card', and even though we know where his loyalties lie, we are never QUITE certain what he'll do next. He has a gift for hitting the most painful points of a personality, as the quotes above illustrate. He's dangerous, but mostly by association with Crayak. He can pretend to help you, right before he causes you to get your head ripped off.

I read a LOT of Shakespeare, and, among many other things, he reminds me of Puck / Robin Goodfellow from A Midsummer Night's Dream. He ESPECIALLY reminds me of the Puck in Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novel series, a being described as a "giggling-dangerous-totally-bloody-psychotic-menace-to-life-and-limb".

How do you all feel about him? Do you see my point about his resemblance to Puck (my favourite character in Shakespeare, too)?

Ah, Puck. The Norse trickster god. Bringer of Ragnarok, I believe.

Yeah, I can see the similarities. I do like the Drode as a villain. Not much background on him, though. He serves, and is protected by, Crayak. He can't really do much besides talk smack, since he must obey the rules.

It kind of makes me with The Ellemist had someone on his side. Except he/she would be nicer. Maybe it could have been Rachel after the ending, but that's going off topic.

I never really picked a favorite villain, but I did enjoy Drode.

*on a side note, have you noticed the similarities between Loki and Prometheus?

Oh yeah. Loki.

Prometheus was the one who gave fire to Man, right? I'm not sure if Loki did anything for Man, but I think he's manipulative. I could be wrong though, since I'm obviously no expert on mythology.

Here's a little run-down:

Prometheus = titan, extremely WISE, because he can see the future...as in, EVERYTHING that will EVER happen. EVER. He considers the gods unjust, so he gives fire to man, even though he KNOWS what will happen to him.

He gets chained to a rock, and every day a vulture pecks out his eyes and eats his liver, which re-grow by the next day.


Loki = god of mischief and trickery, EVIL beyond belief, but a LOT like Milton's version of Lucifer (better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven; gods are tyrants that prevent free will; yada yada), causes the death of Balder, everyone's favourite in Asgaard.

He gets chained to a rock, and a poisonous snake drips its acidic venom in his eyes, day in and day out. His beloved wife tries to catch the venom in a bowl, to keep it from Loki's face, but she has to stop periodically to empty the bowl. Thus, he still gets poisoned-burned.

Yeah, i can't even deny it. Just reading that excerpt from #27 The Exposed alone is enough to show just how bad this dude is. Its an awesome quote, definite looking glass into his character. He's not my favorite villain, but he's up there with the awesomes.

Rachel helping the Ellimist would be the ultimate way to bring her back because with an ironic price. The ultimate fighter can no longer fight or help in battle. Of course it couldn't be her exactly. Rachel would have to loose something else.

The Drode was awesome.  I loved the ending of MM #4, when Jake's about to accept his offer and he says, "Oh, never mind."  I laughed my head off at that.

For some reason, I always pictured him looking like Mike from Monsters, Inc., except scarier.

Yeah, the Drode is so funny in MM#4 ^_^ This MM#4 was very good, but with the Drode at the beginning and at the end, it was amazing ;)

The Drode was different in that everyone else went for the standard versions of war, but he accomplished the same effect psychologically.

I always pictured him to look like an anthropomorphic raisin.

I imagined him sorta' like this:

Compound eyes, like a fly, but green,
skin like a raisin, all violet-black and wrinkly,
vestigial bat-like wings on his back,
arms like a T-rex, all shrunken and useless,
back-bent legs, like an ostrich,
beak-like nose-mouth, almost parrot-ish.

That's almost exactly how I pictured him, except without the wings, with regular black eyes (green rimmed) and a mouth...kind of like a lipless, snub-nosed dinosaur. 

And a smile kind of like this:

The Drode was definitely teh awesome, snivelling little badass.

...and having read all of Sandman I totally get the Puck parallels...althoug h I picture him being capable of smiling like the Corinthian...  ;D

He also reminds me a lot of a similar sarcastic, all-knowing baddie from Stephen King's The Stand and the Dark Tower, Randall Flagg/Walter/The Man in Black...
