I like it Este. +1 for your effort and dedication.

Okay, first I'd like to say that I'm going to arrange for Chris to be dragged off. If and/or when he returns, he has the option of still being alive. :P

And second, I approve of Estelore's (simplified) system here. Unless someone has a serious issue (aka, not just a minor complaint), I'm going to use my awesome GM powers to say that this is how we're gonna do it. Let me summarize:

1) This will actually mean that your character might die. Play smart. Every time you roll, I want/need you to post the numbers of your roll. Don't lie. That's cheating, and basically the same as powergaming in this system.

2) When you confront an NPC enemy (*NOT* another player's character), you roll twice. The first is for your attack, the second is for the NPC's defense. (This means you don't have to wait for me to dispose of enemies.)
2a) If your attack is higher than their defense, the difference is subtracted from their HP.
2b) If their defense is higher than your attack, you fail, but don't lose any HP.

3) After you've attacked an NPC, assume that it attacks back. Thus, you roll two more times. The first of these is it's attack, the second, your defense. Same rules as 2a and 2b apply, except reversed. Basically, if you attack, that was your choice, but now you have to deal with being attacked back. :P No hit-and-runs!
3a) If you attack an NPC, they attack back. Only a GM can make a NPC initiate an attack.

4) As well as teaming up and cooperating to drain an enemies HP, you can attack repeatedly in hopes of chipping away at it. Kinda like Pokemon. :P

5) To make things easier, I will say that if you have armor (something that a GM has approved as armor) then you can add +1 for defense. I don't care if it's tree bark or kevlar, you get +1. Same thing for weapons. Anything approved as a weapon, from a stick to a lightsaber, gets you +1 for attack. I know, this sounds ridiculous, but it's stats and modifiers like that that bogged us down before.

6) If you kill a NCP, let the GM write the death, but rest assured, it will actually die. (Unless it has certain special effects or whatnot. >:D) If you kill another players character, allow the other player to write the death. If your character is supposed to die THEN YOU MUST DIE!!!!

7) Last note. According to this HP chart listed below, technically, a human could kill another person with a punch. *Marty swings his fist at Franky* Attack - 9, Defense - 2 *Franky dies* But... how? Be creative! Maybe he fell and hit his head on a rock, or accidentally stabbed himself, or maybe an NPC monster got him while he was disoriented. Also, be creative with your battles too. If you get a large difference between rolls, explain what that means in your post. Did your attack miss? Maybe you lost your grip, or they ducked, or you hiccuped right as you fired. Did you get hit? Maybe you've got a broken arm now, or they found that one hole in your armor. Be creative!

HP / species
22 ~ Kel-hound
18 ~ Kelbrid

12 ~ Leopard

10 ~ Pemalite
8 ~ Leeran
7 ~ Human

**You may have noticed that I changed it to a 1-20 scale for HP. This means that battles are less likely to be a one hit kill.
...AAAAAAAND, that's one heckuva 'summary'. :P

This is how it is now. For an example, check out the RP thread, where Reli is being attacked by a Kel-Hound. *evil laughter* Let's see what happens next. Please don't die, Reli!

Woo! Reli didn't die! I'm very happy about this!

but... um.... ... I changed the HP chart. >.<

According the the HP amounts you'd used in your last post, Este, (Kel-Hound 7, Andalite 8) You did it perfectly right. In the new chart, Kel-Hounds have 22 HP and Andalites have 14 HP. Kel-Hounds are the size of rhinoceroses, btw. Don't worry about changing it, I'll just say it was a juvenille. Way to go Reli!

why do some animals not have a HP listed next to them???
Marco: Now do you see why it's crazy to think we can beat the Yeerks? I mean, come on: We can barely beat zoo security.

Tobias: (now stuck as a hawk) They'll come. The Andalites will come. And until then...
Jake: (nods and wipes tears) Yeah. Until then, we fight.

Mostly 'cuz I'm too lazy to type the number for each one. :P A Gorilla has 14 HP, since it's in the group with the 14 next to it, along with Andalites and Hork-Bajir. Kind of like how Bear and Kelbrid both have 18 HP.

This looks fantastic. Great job, Este.

The only thing that I would add is that I feel we should take into consideration the fact that morphing is not equivalent to "time in the hospital", since morphing does make a person tired. I would think that that should count for something, since it's mentioned so frequently in the series how exhausted morphing quickly can make you. Like...maybe morphing restores ALMOST all HP (all but 1 point?) and the final point will be restored after a 'rest' period of five turns or something; on the other hand, a hospital visit implies rest and would fully restore HP.

I think I'm over complicating things here. Feel free to ignore me. :P

Umn... so just to clarify...

absolutely no matter WHAT method of attack is used, it is absolutely necessary to hit a Kel-hound at least twice in order to kill it (during which time it has a chance to attack)?
And the same applies to everything except humans and Leerans?

I recognize the value of making it more difficult for our characters to die (i.e. only humans and Leerans can die by a single lucky diceroll)... but in terms of realism, that is questionable.

That being said, I'm not complaining... just seeking to clarify my own understanding of the new ruleset. :)

Regarding Terenia's post...

...HP is a calculation not of how physically weak you are, but of how close or far you are from being absolutely 100% dead. It tallies injuries and the probability of another attack causing character death, but it doesn't determine ability to attack and move and so on.

I think it would eventually lead to the same complications as a full stat sheet, so maybe instead we just think logically in these terms:
If you are at half HP, you automatically move slower and attack less powerfully. You don't have to modify the numbers on your dicerolls... but you have to take into account your weakened state in the process of actually writing a story post.
You are half HP, but you roll 9 atk and 1 def? Okay, in the post, you say that you mustered what strength you have, and you whaled on the enemy... but after the attack, you're fatigued. Even if you don't incur new personal injuries in the battle (all your defensive rolls overriding enemy attacks, that is), you're still not in tip-top condition. It just happens that your weak attack of mustered strength was that much more effective than the enemy's truly pathetic defenses.

Does that sound fair enough? Otherwise, we'd need to account for speed, atk and def modifiers based on HP, and so on. If morphing can't reset our HP back to square one, then it defeats the purpose of having preset max-HP stats, since we'd literally have to be given bed rest every time we wanted to be at max-HP again.

I hope I'm making sense. :P
(It's a good idea, Terenia, but if we're shying from full stat sheets, maybe we'd best avoid unintentionally requiring them again?)

:-
Regarding Terenia's post...
Yes, what Este said. Logically, it makes sense to account for morphing somehow, but .... that would mean more numbers. It's basically the same reasoning that says that a stick or a bazooka give you +1 attack roll. That's the only kind of modifier I'm giving at this point, because it would mean more numbers. Yeah, it doesn't make sense, but we'll just take that into account of our posts, but not in our dice rolls. Describe your character being tired or whatever. This would mean that we'd actually be *more* like the Animorphs, since you'll be dead tired and still miraculously kill the whatever-it-is with one shot! :P

And....
Umn... so just to clarify...
Yeah... that's... annoying.

I think I'll go with Reli's HP list instead. Yes, Kel-Hounds are still hard to kill, but it is possible (though unlikely) to kill them in one shot.
Wolf
5 ~ Pemalite

Kinda' what I was wondering...

as for me, this week is finals week, which translates into sleep and more than average free time. The busy times for me were the past three weeks (AKA Hell Week), which are, to my delight, over now.

I don't want to try to defibrillate the thread until I know others will be accessible, because I might try to interact with a character whose player is away for a longer term, thereby tying things up again while we wait for a reaction, and...

...howzabout we just stick around for an activity check? XD

I'm just.. busy, is all. Normally, I try to take things a day at a time, but this week, I had four or five jump me all at once. Totally not a fair fight. :P

I'll post.. soon?

Crud... my bump got lost to the Post Rapture. *snaps*

Okay, I'll go repost something real quick, but don't expect anything pretty.

And if anyone else is wanting to keep this alive, well, let's keep it alive. I can't keep doing CPR on it like this. :P Y'all don't *have* to wait for me to post stuff.
