I took off the headset and crushed it in my hands, it was getting irritating in my 'ear'. I was actually happy that my plan got overruled, it was a bad idea and none of us could probably make it out alive. "So how will we leave this ship?" I asked. "Where would the escape pods be?."

"They have to have a shuttle or fighter or something. Don't all ships have that?" I asked. "Does one of those two have a map or something on them?" I check the two Hork-Bajir but didn't find anything. "Is there a computer terminal nearby where we could get directions to the hangar?"

"Or we can just ask for directions." I half-joked. I thought of where a terminal would be, but my knowledge on ships are low. "I think the ship can have a a hanger."

<Escape methods have to be kept where the maximum number of crew can access them at once. They will not be too far from here, since the mess and armory are on this section of the vessel. If we go this way, more people are likely to spot us, but we have speed on our side- three Hork-Bajir and an Andalite - if we barrel down the hall as fast as we can, anybody who gets in our way will have to move or get cut. As long as they are not expecting us, we have a chance.>

Reli waited for the others to form rank around her, gesturing toward the hallway.

<When you are all ready, move fast like you have a purpose for going this direction. Do not make eye contact. If anybody challenges us, we break into a run.>
The universe is, instant by instant, re-created anew. There is, in truth, no Past, only a memory of the Past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. The only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.

Shaun took a place next to Reli. <Ready when you are.> He gave a nod and a fist to emphasise.
Marco: Now do you see why it's crazy to think we can beat the Yeerks? I mean, come on: We can barely beat zoo security.

Tobias: (now stuck as a hawk) They'll come. The Andalites will come. And until then...
Jake: (nods and wipes tears) Yeah. Until then, we fight.

<I am ready too Reli.> I fell in place behind Shaun.

<Here we go.>

Reli strode out into the hallway, adopting the casual arrogance she'd learned from her brother, who had been a military officer. Her body language and facial expression said "I am supposed to be walking down this hallway with these Hork-Bajir; carry on."

Their entire group moved without obstruction. Reli noted with a relieved surprise that none of the armed cameras seemed to be swinging their way at all. I guess Ferush was the one in charge of monitoring us.

Soon the hall branched, with a side-hall on either side. Reli noticed painted strips leading down both halls, along the walls. The main hall had no strip painted at all. <I believe this hall passes the entire length of the ship; that is why there are no colour indicators: it is the primary path. Let us go left.>
The left path had a fluorescent green stripe and a red stripe. The right path was marked with fluorescent orange and dark blue. Green is the Skrit Na warning colour, and red is standard for most other species. If we are going to find escape pods, surely they would be this direction...? There were no other beings in the hallway Reli chose. If there is no danger, of course there is nobody headed toward the escape.

The group turned left and kept moving down the hall Reli selected. Sure enough, nobody approached them here, either; the hall was devoid of other beings.

Five steps later, HISSSSS a pneumatic hatch appeared from the walls and closed off the hall behind them.

<That... may be a very bad thing. Keep moving.>

The hall widened out into a large, domed room filled with control panels, lights, a large whirring and glowing machine, and not another living being. Some large cubic structures stood against one wall.
<We appear to have found an engine room.>
To the back of the room was another smaller extension of the space, containing a well-stocked large transport pod of some sort, not equipped for atmosphere, but well-outfitted for as many as six occupants.

As the group walked toward the pod, Reli took a closer look at the machine in the middle of the room and the boxes along the wall.
Not boxes. Cages. Three very tall, empty cages, clearly strong enough to withstand a struggling Kelbrid or Hork-Bajir... or Andalite... and the air around the bars humming with the tooth-itching whine of the Gleet Bio-Filter.
Her hearts started beating more rapidly, a surge of deep loathing and anger rising in her gut. No.

<Correction: we appear to have found a Kandrona.>

Reli drew her Shredder and powered it to a higher level, taking aim at the Kandrona's power source.
<Gentlemen, I suggest you board the escape vehicle. We will have some very unpleasant company very soon.>

Reli opened fire on the power source.

I could already hear the footsteps down the hallway of Hork-Bajir and Taxxons. I couldn't believe that there was Kandrona in a ship, I thought there was now Yedd and Yeerks were changed. "I can't believe some yeerks still use Kandrona! Do you think they have hosts too?" I grunted at Reli.

I didn't want to get a fight started, so I went inside of Pod. Once inside I started to demorph. I looked into the reflective black screen of the ship as the Hork-Bajir scales turned into human flesh and shaded back to my skin color I was a giant human with blades, horns and a tail! I remembered that I needed to talk to Reli. I reversed the morph and sat down at the pilots' seat. <By any chance, would you know how to start a ship like this?> I asked Reli, fighting my urge to press buttons and wait for a reaction.

I Was nervous during our march but when we didn't see anyone I calmed down. We came to a giant room with ... a Kadrona? "So this is a Yeerk ship." I comment as get into the pod. "I don't know how to fly anything. Reli? Do you?"

<There should be a set of large flat places for you to place your hands. Put your hands there and thought-speak to the ship, "begin prelaunch sequence, essentials only, crew of four." I will be with you in a moment. Yes, they have hosts; those are cages by the wall.>

Reli continued destroying essential components of the onboard Kandrona, using her tail on anything that would not electrocute her, and the Shredder on everything else.

<If we are lucky, they will be too busy recovering and repairing this thing to bother chasing us. Is everybody loaded in?> Reli used her tail to gouge a few holes in the hull of the Kandrona room; air started escaping as the vacuum outside dragged it away. The room's main hatch hissed closed as pressure sensors detected a reduction of air in the room.  That should buy us even more time.
Reli backed toward the pod and climbed into it.

I walk over to the panels Reli mentioned and waited for her to get in the pod. Once everyone was in I repeated what Reli had told me and the pod prepared to launch. "What next?" I ask Reli.

Everything happened so fast. A Kandrona? No way not here, but it really was there and we needed to get out of there fast so I jumped in the pod and when we were out I sighed in relief.
Marco: Now do you see why it's crazy to think we can beat the Yeerks? I mean, come on: We can barely beat zoo security.

Tobias: (now stuck as a hawk) They'll come. The Andalites will come. And until then...

I could hear the pods engines starting up, and everyone was now in it too. "So can you explain why there are yeerks here?" I asked Reli.

Reli closed the pod's hatch and took a place at the control panel, palms flat on its surface. <Disconnect from mothership. Sixty per cent power to rear engine.> The pod pulled off the main ship just after the pod bay doors closed shipside. <Weapons at five per cent. Full standard power to rear engines. Prepare for entry to Z-space.>

Reli turned her stalk-eyes back to her companions. <I do not know why they are here, and they probably have an emergency Kandrona as backup somewhere on the ship. They cannot make a Z-space jump with their hull's airlock compromised. Take your seats, everybody; we are going to be followed by small craft.>

Reli kept manipulating controls, turning on the blast shields.

<There are two weapons stations and a life support control panel configured around one of each of your chairs. The weapons are run by thought-speech and touch-aiming on the screen. Just touch the enemy on the screen and think 'fire'. The life support panel will have indicators for our oxygen, shields, velocity, weapons power, and fuel. I need one of you to take each of these stations. Whomever has life support needs to manipulate all of the levels constantly so that our velocity never drops below the blue indicator line. Alert me when fuel drops below fifty per cent capacity: we need to dock with a friendly ship before that happens, because this vessel is not made for atmospheric flight.>

She turned to face them, a nearly human gesture. Her eyes were sad and tired.
<I do not know how far we are from a friendly ship, but we are out of other options. I do know those Yeerks' hosts are not voluntary, if there are cages on their ship near the Kandrona. Please all of you take one of the control stations. It will take us four minutes to get up to speed for a Z-Space jump, and we have to protect ourselves and outrun the enemy during that time.>

I took a place at one of the weapon emplacements. I prepared to fire at whoever I saw. "Reli do you know how long I've been in morph?"
