"I can do that."  Chris focused on becoming a lion and slowly but surely his form shifted. He sprouted fur claws and a tail and fell to all fours. The last part was his mane which grew out full and golden.

<Shaun, the ultimate goal is to get back to the ship alive. That's the first priority for you and Reyna both. If you have an opening to get yourselves to the ship, take it, even if it means leaving others in the group behind. If you see Fisher and his team moving out, stay close to them, and you can all cover each other. If anything happens to me, for the purposes of this battle, consider him the best person to listen to.>

Mesa's head snapped up sharply as a high-pitched howling started outside of the hut, sending shivers down her spine.  The mental noise increased, Reli's thoughts in particular increasing drastically.  She quickly realized that the Andalite knew what she was doing as she hesitated to begin her morph, reluctant to loose her psychic.  She's amazing, she thought admiringly as Reli outlined her plan to the team members.  Keeping Shaun and Reyna, who might be liabilities out of the way while using the power we do have to its maximum potential.  Realizing with a start she was behind, she hurriedly began her own morph.  The Leeran was glad she hesitated, though, when her psychic was the first thing to cut off.  The speckles on her back enlarged, her tentacles became legs, and her hind legs extended, leveling her body out.  Morph faster!  She thought angrily.  Then, privately to Reli, she said <Do you want me to stay with Shaun and Reyna or help you, Marty, and Chirs?>

<Mesa, consider yourself the "relief hitter." You, Chris, and I all have fast combat morphs, but there isn't room up here for two big cats to maneuver in the same space. Your job is to watch Chris for injuries that will affect his speed. As soon as he starts slowing down, switch places with him and tell him to remorph and be prepared to switch back with you. With any luck, this will end fast, and you won't need to switch into the fight.>

<Alright,> Mesa confirmed.  I'll keep an eye on Reyna and Shaun too--just in case, she decided.  The senses of the leopard almost made up for the silence in the back of her mind.  The morph quickly took shape--fur sprouted over her body, ears rose from her head.  She stretched quickly as the morph finished, her tail extending to full length, limbering herself up.  She had a moment of struggle with the instincts, tensing and glancing around at the cramped space around her, almost ready to spring.  But she wrestled it back.

Jim and Kage - safe on the ship. Mesa - backup and relief. Chris and Marty - rear guard. Shaun and Reyna - liabilities under control. Fisher... I don't need to tell him anything. He knows this situation, and I can trust him for cover fire. Lee and the Pemalites... I think they can manage themselves; the Pemalites obviously have more information here than we do, and Lee is probably gleaning it from them right now. That's everybody. Let's hope whatever is out there dies easy.

Marty replied by flashing a wolf grin. He looked comical with a muzzel and ears on an otherwise normal face, but this was no time for laughs. He was soon fully wolf.
The Pemalites wimpered, speaking quietly in their verbal language. <They call them Kel-hounds. And they are very afraid, even though they feel that they should be safer by staying inside.> Lee said.

Screams and yells, both telepathic and audible, could be heard from outside. The war cries of the Pemalite defenders joined with the surreal barking sounds to make an andrenaline-inducing clamor. A few more women and children ran into the yuk'kum, only to cry anew at the sight of assorted aliens and Earth creatures. They only hesitated briefly, for their fear of what was out there was far greater than that of what was in here. The racket continued... there was an painfully high yelp, followed by several smaller canine exclamations of pain.

Lee spoke again. <...They wonder if we will help them....>

<How many are out there? If we are too outnumbered, we can't help the Pemalites.>

Reli deliberated a moment, one eye sweeping the room, pausing on Fisher, then returning to Lee's face.

<Tell the newcomers to stay close together, out of the way. I'll do what I can, but I will take my first opportunity to get our group back to the ship. I don't speak on behalf of anybody else.>

Mesa hesitated.  Abandoning the Pemalites?  But these people were so hopeless...they had to help.   They had been beaten down for centuries...and now to just run?  It seemed selfish.  Maybe these Kel-hounds will be easier to fight, she contemplated.  The Pemalites are relatively defenseless...but they can morph too!  Ehruf can, at least.

Click-eeeeeEEEEN Fisher's group's energy weapons whirred to life, responding to being adjusted to full-power. "Well let's blast us some Hell-hound, boys." He said, an expression of excitement veiled behind seriousness. They hadn't had much action on their previous assignment.... The four soldiers stood braced and ready, various weaponry displayed prominently.

More screams came from behind the hide partition serving as the door. For a few brief seconds, cries of victory could be heard, before being drowned out once more by persistent shouts of battle and bloodshed. The 'voice' of Ehruf could be easily hear above the chaos. <The legs! Take out the legs!>

Lee looked back to the Pemalites clustered in fear. There was nothing he could say....

<But what if this is our chance? What if they're distracted now? Reli, this is a world we don't know. Maybe this is our one chance, our golden opportunity. Let me see what we're up against out there. I'll scope it out. After all, that's why I'm here.> Marty says. He edges towards the door frame, sticking the tip of his nose past the flap. He looks back, awaiting her response. She'd taken charge of their well being, and while he considered this a smart move, he would let her decide. <Don't worry. I won't draw attention, and I won't try anything. They won't even know I'm there.>

Reli looked down at the wolf inching toward the door.
He does have the best chance at stealth, for the moment....

<Better yet, let's both look. Stay close to the ground: if I have to use my tail, I don't want you between it and its target.>

Reli leaned forward toward the tent flap and carefully let one stalk eye find its way around one of the gaps near the top.

She leaned away from the flap again, face visibly pale beneath her fur. She glanced down at Marty again. She kept her voice private, relieved that nobody else could hear the edge of dread inching into it.
So many bodies....

<Marty, you're seeing what I'm seeing. Do you feel your morph is capable of dealing with these creatures? If so, I feel as you say that our best chance to escape will be immediately, while they are still mostly busy with the remaining Pemalites.>

I don't know how we can help the Pemalites and still get ourselves to safety. There are too many factors in this. I have to prioritize the team... and Ehruf, Ayrow, and the others here with us. But the ones outside? No chance.

What are they doing it just doesnt make sense if we need to get to the ship lets get to the ship sure i might be the slowest but sure im one of the strongest so i think i would be able to handle myself but now everybody else on the other hand would get there before me because Reli has amazing speed alond with Marty and Reyna and then Fisher and his team but i might be able to get there before them but i wouldnt let them get left behind then we have Mesa who is a leopard and is quite fast but non-the-less we all should make it there except Lee i dont know what he can morph besides human so im not to sure about this.

<Guys why dont we all just make a break for the ship as long as we all stay together we should be fine.>

((Punctuate, please? I don't want to be grammar-Nazi-isch, but frankly I know you can do better than that, and it's not difficult to type '.'))

<Maintain your position.>
I hope Reyna can keep him from making the situation worse.

<<I don't know.>> Came Marty's reply. <<They're rather close. Well, I figure that they have to be fast, so that really isn't a long distance for them. I think this is probably the best we're going to get, so perhaps we should take our chance before it's too late. A couple of us should be ready to distract them if we catch their attention. I volunteer for that. And... maybe Mesa would be a good pick as well. You need to lead. They'll follow you. Fisher's group just isn't fast enough to handle those. We need to get back to the ship, and maybe Lee can control the ship enough to make use of whatever weapons it has.>> He couldn't stand watching the violence and utter killing force. This was way far from the intelligence position he'd agreed to. <On Reli's signal, everyone needs to get to the ship as fast as humanly ... or otherwise.. possible. Stay close to the buildings. And do NOT stray from the group.>

A crumbling, breaking sound could be heard from the warzone right outside the doorflap. A Kel-Hound had crashed into a yuk'kum, and delightfully discovered the secret within. Women and children screamed. More sounds of fighting. More evidence of eminent death....
