Shaun sat in the corner of the ship away from everybody else he just wanted to be alone in his gorilla morph.
Why did he have to die? It makes no sense the Kelbrid keep their prisoners for food why would they kill him? Nobody here knows what its like to have your father murdered right before your eyes in cold blood at a reunion. Why does everybody i love have to die this is why i cant become physically attracted to anybody in this group, even if i want to become attached to a certain somebody. Oh yeah in all this commotion i forgot today is my 18th birthday.
<Hey guys it's my 18th birthday today i just realized it because we have been away for 3 days so now im 18.>
Marco: Now do you see why it's crazy to think we can beat the Yeerks? I mean, come on: We can barely beat zoo security.

Tobias: (now stuck as a hawk) They'll come. The Andalites will come. And until then...
Jake: (nods and wipes tears) Yeah. Until then, we fight.

<Congratulations on living eighteen years, Shaun. Fisher, I just checked the ship's inventory. There should be a bin over by the pods; it has two Kelbrid daggers and two Kelbrid handheld weapons. Once I demorph, my hands won't be suited to operate any of them, and I'll have my tail at the least, so go ahead and share them out with your team. Human hands are strong and large enough to use them.>

Reyna has only begun her wolf morph - the only change so far has been the unsightly protruding of her nose - when all hell breaks loose a second time. One of the Kelbrid attacks Kage and Jim and the commotion that follows breaks her concentration. She reverses the morph, watching with wide eyes as Reli takes out the Kelbrid with ease. Remind me not to make her angry... Reyna thinks, but this thought too is quickly distracted. The sight of Reli morphing a Kelbrid has her, almost subconsciously, going through the catalogue of morphing memories that now exist in her head. She shudders, her stomach roiling uncomfortably. The ship, she scolds herself. A bit unsteady, Reyna follows everyone onto the small ship, doing her best to avoid the rather large pools of blood.

Once they are aboard the ship Reyna finds the nearest wall to lean against and scoots down until she is sitting on the ground. Pulling her knees up she lays her head down, rubbing her temples and trying to make sense of things. She feels almost as if the time since her waking has been a long, convoluted dream. Jim and Kage pregnant...Reli in that awful form...the Pemalites... She went down a mental list of everything that had happened, sorting out what was real from what was a new memory, courtesy of Esplin 9466. Her attention is broken by Shaun mentioning his birthday.

"Shaun..." Reyna says, forcing a sad smile. "Your dad. Before...before he...before we were captured he told me to tell you something." She squints her eyes shut, recalling the dim moment where she had hung between consciousness and unconsciousness. "He told me to tell you that he's proud of you. That was the last thing he said."

The hunger and thirst seemed to his Mesa like a blow.   Her mind suddenly heavy with fuzz--and the fuzz of everyone else's minds, once the Jim and Kage situation was slightly cleared up, she merely followed.  She didn't even bother to correct Shaun--Jim was around his age, not just a kid.  She couldn't even bring herself to comfort him about his father, or congratulate him on being 18.  Being a Leeran, being deprived of water for so long was taking it's toll.

I need water, she said, managing to gather her thoughts.  I'm not much help.  The morphing...lack of food...Ehruf, Ayrow, would it be possible for us to get some?  I'm sure we all need it, she said, remembering the thoughts of the others.

Fisher nodded his thanks to Reli and wandered over to investigate the bins. Popping off a lid, he reached his hand in and pulled out two of the knives and two hand-held weapons of some sort. He tossed one gun to Baxter and kept the other for himself.

"You're the best with hand guns, you two get the knives."  He flicked a knife to Johan and Ben-David respectively.

Now heading back to the control center of the ship, he looked out at the space ahead of them. "So where are we going, Earth or the Andalite world presumably? Where are we anyway?"
"Now I can't speak for everyone; at least not until 'The Device' is completed."

<Wait a second my father said he was proud of me?> Shaun said as he got up and knuckle walked over to where Reyna sat in the fetal position. <I'm sorry for what has happened to you Reyna having that evil slug stuck in your head, if i could i would switch places with you. I can't even imagine what its like having him in your head the monster who was in my fathers head for so long.>

Reyna gives Shaun a small, but genuine, smile in appreciation. "Thank you. It could be worse, though. At least he isn't controlling me." She drops her gaze then, feeling awkward staring at the disturbingly intelligent gorilla eyes.

"Your father was a good man," she says. "I've studied him and...and Esplin, of course. I took an entire course on Yeerk Hierarchy last semester and a large portion was spent discussing The Abomination and his host. Alloran may not have been the most likable person in the galaxy, but he was strong and he never gave up."

Forcing herself to look at Shaun again she adds, "I'm sure his son is no different."

Shaun gives her the best smile a gorilla could make, which must have looked pretty funny. <Thank you that means a lot to me. You're not half bad yourself, i don't understand why everybody makes a big deal about Yeerk decedents they aren't Yeerk, they are human and people really need to learn that. I'm not big on Yeerk history but i'm pretty sure not all the Yeerks were evil and i know for a fact that you are not evil or else you wouldnt be so nice to me. If you are uncomfortable with me in my gorilla form i can demorph for you.>

Reyna's cheeks redden slightly at this, and she diverts her gaze again. She does not want to sounds angry with him, but her voice has, nevertheless, taken on a staccato quality when she responds. "The Yeerks are not evil. My great-grandparents were born Yeerks, and I cared for them a great deal." She chews on the inside of her cheek a bit, knowing that pressing the issue is probably not a good idea. She does not like talking about herself, or her position as a Descendent, and yet...sometimes the preconceptions of others irk her to no end.

"My nana told me, before she died, the exact opposite." She stretches out her legs, examining their clearly human form. "She told me that I should never forget where I came from. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the Yeerks."

<Well your nana was a wise woman because that is true but your nana wouldn't have come to Earth if humans weren't a class five species and if the Animorphs hadn't won the war for Earth. If that would have never happened i would not have been born just like most of the people on this ship, and if we had not been born we wouldn't be having this conversation.> A tear runs down the gorillas face as he thinks about how his father was the person who people feared most in the entire galaxy, and how he never got to tell him he loved him after the last encounter. <And i might also add if we never would have been born i would not have met such a beautiful woman like yourself.>, Shaun adds privately.

<Actually, you need to demorph, anyway. Anybody who went into morph before I did will have less than fifteen minutes, at this point. I suggest getting it over with now; you don't want to underestimate how long it takes to morph while hungry. As for water... we have as I see it two options. Option One: we ration out an equal portion to everybody here, and make it last a maximum of three days in spaceflight. Option Two: we let the Leerans completely rehydrate, because their need is by far greatest, followed by the humans, and then the rest of us take a slightly smaller share. This lasts us approximately thirty Earth hours in spaceflight. I will let you all decide among yourselves; Andalite bodies are designed to conserve moisture well, and I will need less water than the rest of you, either way. Keep in mind that the decision you make will determine how far we travel before we MUST stop and resupply, but also keep in mind that neither Kage nor I can metabolize meat, and we will need to stop as soon as possible anyway. Also, we have no apparent way to cook the meat that is here, and it may not be very edible to humans.>

Marty was nearby the pods and saw when Fisher opened the bins. Along with the weapons he'd pulled out, Marty noticed lots of scraps and pieces. Some of them looked very interesting... and useful. He pulls out a handful. "This should be handy... I think we have enough bits and pieces here to rebuild a few Dracon/Shredder-ish weapons. I'd say at least three..." There were several large chunks of machinery that appeared to be complete modules for energy weapons.

Her face was already red from anger, but at Shaun's private comment her blush deepened to an amusing shade of magenta. "I don't think...now's not really..." she spluttered, unable to finish her train of thought. She was partially embarassed, but another part of her was still fuming over how easily Shaun dismissed the Yeerks as evil. You shouldn't be so surprised, she chastised herself. That is how people are these days. Winners write history and all that. The Yeerks have been penned as the villains and the Descendents would do well to forget their heritage. That is just the way of it.

She is pulled from her dark thoughts by Arheli, discussing their options. Reyna did not respond, but she listened carefully for the comments of the others. She glanced at Shaun curiously, "Perhaps you should listen to her and demorph, Shaun. It has been awhile."

<Marty, if you can get even one working safely, you'll be able to use it to cook a crude meal for yourself and the other humans. Although... I don't know how well Leerans and Pemalites digest terrestrial meat. Speaking of Pemalites, Ehruf, you've been in morph as long as I have, and our Leeran friends are naturally psionic. Do you think we might hand the controls to them and demorph, or will the ship rebel against them?>

Shaun started to demorph and the changes happened rather slowly this time. It took him about 2 and a half minutes to actually become himself again. "There now im back to myself again. I could care less at about how much water i get i just need some food im starving." Shaun couldnt help but feel helpless without the power of the gorilla but he got over it rather quickly.
