Marty made contact with the Kelbrid, braced for the shock, and.... nothing happened. Perhaps it had been the 'shock' the Kelbrid received when he was attacked by Reli, Fisher, Baxter, and Shaun. He quickly released the Kelbrid, stepping back as it died, and turning to head back to the ship. Chris was still in the hall. Marty stopped, stooped, and went to pick up Chris, if he would allow it. "Need some assistance?"

<Kill them!> Ayrow crys out from the entranceway, <Kill them NOW!> It will be a mercy...

Wait, kill them?! I cry, in shock, What did it do to them?

Jim is similarly stunned, "Wait! No! Please!" Oh god, please no! I don't want to die! What did that thing do to me?!?!

((Oh, man, please don't tell me it turns them into Kelbrids, too. :P))

Kneeling beside Chris, Marty adds, "Perhaps we should get everyone into the ship before we decide to kill each other off." with a slightly agitated edge.

Calm down! Mesa quickly said to Jim, though she was equally shocked.  We'll find a way around this!  Ayrow, what do you mean it will be a mercy?!  What did those Kele-Zi do?!  She probably didn't need to add that calling one a Kele-Zi was almost tantamount to a Leeran swear word.  And Marty is right.  We need to evacuate immediately before more Kelbrid come.

Ayrow starts at the realisation that Mesa can read his thoughts. Stay OUT of my head, Kel-Spawn! he thinks glaring at her. His Ke is unmistakeable to me. Fear. Trauma. Memories. The sense of invasion.

Ayrow addresses Reli, <It's an attempt to infiltrate! It's how they breed!>

<Is there any reason it cannot be undone simply by morphing a very small creature, something smaller than their spawn? And how quickly does it occur?>

I will not stay out of your head if you try to kill our companions!  How do we stop it?!  Would morphing work, as Reli said?  It heals wounds!  Mesa demanded in a rush, her thoughts whizzing into overdrive.  Jim and Kage will become Kelbrid?!  No!  Not possible!  Calm down.  Calm.  She took several deep breaths, then said in a calmer voice.  Will all sense of themselves be erased as they become a Kelbrid?

<These are the creatures that invented morphing!> Ayrow retorts, <Their physiology adapts so that any species is a potential mate! In five months, the outcome will be unavoidable! You have to kill them now!!!> he then looks at Mesa, <They will not become Kelbrid, they will give birth to them!>

Fisher’s nerves had been constantly grinded away by the adrenaline, the fear, the brutal bursts of insane combat and the stress of escaping before more things showed up. And now, with the Pemalite fanatically crying for them to be merciful and kill Jim, Fisher had just had enough. Walking into the middle of it, he faced the fear-stricken Pemalite and shouted right in its face.

“What the hell are you talking about? What do you mean by infiltrating, it breeds by touching your chest? Can you speak one bloody clear sentence for once if your damn life?”

He quietly listened, face twisting in revolt at the concept of birthing a Kelbrid. Holding off a wave of nausea, he said quietly and calmly, deadly serious. "Well then you kill the little f**k while it's still developing, no need to kill Jim!"
"Now I can't speak for everyone; at least not until 'The Device' is completed."

Jim has no idea what to do or say. He's dumbstruck. I'm... Pregnant?!

I'm agree! Jim is just a kid! We can't kill him! How de we even know the Kelbrid will grow up bad?! I look as deep into the Pemalites mind as I can but... He's shut it out. I can't begin to understand how, but he's managed to lock out a Ke sensitive Leeran. Completely. Even I couldn't manage that in the presence of Mesa.

<Kill the child or stay here.> Ayrow says coldly, staring Fisher dead in the eyes.

Fisher did not flinch an inch. He stared back at the doggy-looking alien with equal coldness and determination. In a low, deadly serious commanding voice, he suggested.

"We could kill you and leave instead."

Reli whispered privately to Fisher,
<I find I am respecting you more by the minute. If they want to harm Jim, they will need to get past me.>

Marty glared at Ayrow. "Everyone, ignore the blind fool for the moment. Get aboard the ship. Somebody help Reyna. We need to leave. Now."

Ayrow continues to glare at Fisher for a few long moments, calculating, before curling his lips and giving an agitated growl, spinning around and walking back into the ship. <The mistake is yours to make,> he snarls, <They're going to die, anyway. I would just prefer it if they did not take us with them.>

I relax noticeably, but the gravity of what just happened has shaken me. How the qate did he block me out so completely?! I think, remembering the lengths I had gone through, just to learn to cover my own thoughts.

Kage remains unconscious on the floor. The sudden adrenal burst coupled with the lask of food and water having been too much for his body to take.

Jim has also relaxed considerably, but is stil in some measure of shock. "I guess when an alien dog says you're pregnant with alien demon spawn and need to be killed, you find out who your true friends are." He say, duly. He realises that he's broken out in a cold sweat and feels very lightheaded. "I think I just want to sleep, now."
