I need to track down the rest of the Gone books.  Trailed away from them after the second one, not through lack of interest just never got around to continuing.  Both Katherine & Michael have awesome senses of humor.

I wonder what the different aliens and alien concepts are called in different translations of the series.

Edit: Just running through the languages i have some familiarity with: Yeerks are "Yirks" in French and German, and "idoiter" in Swedish. "Chee" are "Cheys" in French, "Djee" in German, and "Chier" in Swedish. Unfortunately i'm not aware of any Chinese translation of the series or i'd check.

In Italy the name of the alien races are identical. The exceptions are where the names have a meaning. For example, the "Howlers" and "The Five" are translated with their corresponding in Italian.

Andalites and Pemalites are "italianized" to facilitate the pronunciation. So "Andalite" is "Andalita" and the pronunciation is as in the word "margarita".

That makes perfect sense, of course. But i guess it's just interesting to see how names are given different spellings according to the way different languages handle sounds. Like the "Cheys", "Djee", "Chier" example above. I wonder about the Japanese translation, for example.  :XD:

decided to watch the TV series for the first time in a decade or more (that is, have in on as background noise as I do stuff in the evening)

I admit. It's not as horribly terribly nauseating as I remember.


That said, I still had to stop 4 minutes into the first episode and try again an hour later because of all the cringes

Yeah it's one of those things where you convince yourself it wasn't as bad as you remember, then you have to turn it into a drinking game because it's the only way you can get through a whole episode. ::)

Did anyone see that time KAA told a fan it was totally okay if they wanted to view Marco and Ax as a romantic pairing on Twitter?

Someone posted it on the Tumblr tag months ago and I forgot if it made its way here. But that happened. It's their usual "if we didnt write it assume what you want" shtick but I didn't realize I shipped it until that moment.
