I think he should be alone, and that none of the Anis know until after a few dates have already gone on. It builds drama that way, and gives him a reason to not just obey Jake and call things off.

How about:

Marco and Ax go to the mall for whatever reason. They stop to eat at Cinnabon and Marco starts hitting on the girl behind the counter. She doesn't take any interest in him and starts chatting it up with Ax. Marco eventually gets the hint and leaves.
