Becoming a Nothlit While Still a Controller
« on: June 13, 2009, 08:08:53 PM »
It's been shown that a Yeerk maintains control when the host morphs, even to extremely small things (When Jake became a controller, he morphed an insect in attempt to escape).

What if the host became a nothlit in a form too small for the Yeerk to escape, or even exist with its mass outside of Z-Space? For instance, if an Animorph became a controller, but say, accidentally became trapped in a glass jar while in fly morph. If the Animorph became a fly nothlit while still a controller, would the Yeek still die of Kandrona starvation?

We know human mass does not get hungry/thirsty, so would the same apply to Yeerks? If it did die, what would happen to its mass? Would it even be possible for the Yeerk to leave the body at this point, or would the Animorph be a controller for the rest of their insect life?

Also, this brings up another topic, which I find more interesting.

If a Yeerk was given the power to morph, and acquired a human, could it become a controller while in morph? Then, when it demorphed, assuming the controlling Yeerk does not die in the scenario questioned above, could you have a Yeerk Controller?

This makes for another interesting scenario. If this Yeerk Controller took a host, would there be three consciousnesses in one body?

What if the new host was a Yeerk morphed as a human? A Yeerk controlling a Yeerk controlling a Yeerk?

If this were possible though, could you technically have an endless chain, to the extent where thousands of Yeerks occupied one body?

What does it mean to be free?

Wow, you thought this through . . . though with a username like that . . . ;)

To be perfectly honest with you, I never considered the possibility of such a thing.  It does seem quite plausible to me, anyway. . . .

i've thought about this before. both cases.

like in book #52, when the falcon-controller begs to be a nothlit.
would the yeerk die of kadrona starvation while in z-space? i'd imagine so.

i don't see why multiple yeerks couldn't control each other, so long it be done within a 3-day period.

what about a yeerk morphing an animal smaller than itself? (extra mass, book #18)
what would happen to the morph if the yeerk starved in z-space?
would the instincts kick in, leaving it feral?

I have at least though about the first case. I don't believe that the yeerk would be able to escape, but in that case... If it were me and one of my friends have morphed a fly because he or she was infested I think I had let hím/her out of the glass jar and killed it, because I think he/she would still be a controller and would prefer death.

it could be that the yeerk itself morphed the falcon (never confirmed, but that's what I believe), in which it's no longer a yeerk, and wouldn't need kandrona rays...

hmm... I suppose the yeerk chain thing is possible because morphing is involved, so when the yeerk demorphs back into yeerk, the yeerk inside would be pushed into z-space.

as for yeerk morphing something smaller, it could be that I misunderstood what you mean, but I think it's impossible for a yeerk to starve in z-space, since it's not a yeerk anymore. once it demorphs though...

When mass enters Z-space I believe it is held in a kind of stasis. It has no need/want of food or anything...otherwis e Tobias would have died long ago. If this philosophy applies to omnivores and herbivores (Andalites), I don't see why it shouldn't apply to the Yeerks, who eat almost by a process similar to photosynthesis, as well. If a Human-Controller were to morph a bird and become a nothlit, it would remain in control of the human, but unable to leave its host because its physical body would not exist in the bird's brain. It also would not need any sustenance beyond what the birds body would need.

Now, if a Yeerk morphed a human and became infested, yes, there would be three consciousnesses. However, I think that upon demorphing the Yeerk inside of the morphed-Yeerk/human would probably have its mass pushed into Zero-Space.

Yeerk Russian dolls?

lol that image is hilarious

idk it would have been an interesting thought experiment for all of the Animorphs to morph a Yeerk, infest the next, morph a Yeerk, infest the next, etc, and see who was really in control.
I go off topic on purpose.

I always guessed that the Yeerk and his host kind of merge when they morph. Then, the mass in Z-space is both Yeerk and Human. And nothlit Yeerks would die of starvation, because they're merged in the morph.
It's just my feelings, my thoughts.

the endless yeerk chain is a cool idea, but i imagine that two minds would have the force of will to overpower a single yeerk three plus and i can't see the host body surviving long as the conflicting wills stress the body too failure.

I don't think it'd be like that. it's like a puppeteer controlling a puppet puppeteer controlling a puppet. the puppeteer controls the strings of the puppet puppeteer to make it control the strings of the puppet. in other words, only the puppeteer at the very top, or the first yeerk to infest a morphed yeerk would have control of anything and everything.

If the yeerks did something as simple as physically overriding the brain's control of the body then yes it would be like a puppeteer controlling a puppet puppeteer controlling a puppet.

However the yeerks seem to work like a Dissociative Identity Disorder were as long as the yeerk is in the brain it is the dominate personality, the host can muster small rebellions but the nature of the yeerks give massive advantage. once you start adding more minds into the mix (minds that know a thing or two about host-yeerk interaction) simple domination become difficult possibly the constant shifting of personalities makes it ever harder for the yeerk to take control.

Wouldn't the Yeerk essentially be like the chips that were put into the Animorphs heads as sharks?  When they tried to morph something small the chips didn't change because they are not part of their DNA.  A Yeerk isn't part of the human (or alien) DNA, it seems like the same thing would happen.  I always thought about this whenever Visser Three would morph, granted he always morphed bigger, but does anyone agree?

no he did morph something smaller in #38. plus jake morphed ant while being a controller in #6. I believe yeerks work and chips don't is because chips aren't organic while yeerks are

I don't think it's a matter of organicism.  I think the Yeerks morph with the host in the same way that tight-fitting clothes do: because they are a tight fit and can be concentrated on to be included in the morph.  However, the chip is a hard, inflexible object.

Just my opinion.
