I think that the reaction to kill Jake's dad, especially with a weapon like a dagger, was incredibly stupid. The police would just keep the family there longer for more questioning. If he was going to kill Jake's dad, he shouldve done it through something much less conspicuous, such as overloading his drink with sleeping pills, etc.

Or, maybe a Dracon Beam? That would make more sense, wouldn't it? Why mess around with a dagger when you can just incinerate the guy? It leaves no evidence behind, and I'm sure someone as powerful as Tom's Yeerk would have been issued one.
