The Future of the Animorphs if there was no War
« on: March 16, 2009, 11:01:34 AM »
I think if there was never a war or invasion or whatever, Jake would have been the president of the U.S. like all the other animorphs predicted. Or maybe not the president but definitely a politician or something like that. I could really see Jake as a leader in public service.

Marco probably would have gone into advertising. Probably a copywriter rather than a illustrator but Marco and advertising just fits.

Cassie? A marine biologist or a veterinarian.

Rachel? Probably an athlete or some sort. Same goes for cousin Tom.

Not so sure about Ax and Tobias though.

Tobias may have committed suicide, or led some bad life.

Who knows about Ax? Maybe still in the military. Just because there's no war, doesn't mean there's no military.

Jake would be your average kid, except likely more athletic. Honoestly, he doesn't consider himself a leader mostly and would not lead by choice. He only leads the animorphs because he was the only one capably and everyone wanted him to. He wouldn't wake up and decide to go into politics. So I honestly doubt he'd ever run for office.

I agree with you on Marco, except he may have also gone into computers like his father. In the books, he's always with Ax coding or breaking into something.

I agree with you on Cassie.

Rachel would probably be a model or an athlete, like you said. I wouldn't say soldier because she doesn't realize that side of her until into the war, and if it never happened, that dark side would be forever hidden.

Tobias would probably continue to follow Jake around, if Jake hangs out with him, maybe he'll be happier, otherwise he'd probably commit suicide or turn to drugs.

Ax would probably still be fighting Yeerks as a shadow of his brother.

What does it mean to be free?

I agree about Tobias committing suicide, or perhaps turning up to school with a gun when he's pushed too far.
If his life turns out well though, I could see him as a writer.

Cassie - I agree with the vet/marine bio. maybe in her sparetime she'll hang out with the greenpeace crew.

Marco - Uhh real estate agent or some sort of salesman. Maybe one of those guys that go on tv and convince people to buy a rubbish product for like 100 times more than it's worth.

Jake - I really don't know. it's hard to say if he'd have the same leadership skills without the war bringing them out. i wonder if Cassie and him would've ended up together...

Ax - He'd be fighting the yeerks with his fellow andalites.

I enjoyed activities and the company of friends. But they were a side dish. I always thought I would also be happy without them."

Quite agree with most of that actually. I've just decided to go into some more detail and see what people think.

I agree about Tobias committing suicide, or perhaps turning up to school with a gun when he's pushed too far.
If his life turns out well though, I could see him as a writer.
I don't think Tobias would harm others it's the war and living as a predator that makes him kill (animals for food) or fight (Yeerks). He'd probably turn out suicidal or drug addicted but high school isn't a good predictor so it's possible he'll turn out to be better than the family members he's living with.  He is interested in things that other people generally don't think of so he could end up working at a museum like Ross (from Friends) or something.

Cassie - I agree with the vet/marine bio. maybe in her sparetime she'll hang out with the greenpeace crew.
Hard to picture Cassie not working with animals. Probably end up working with the same job as her parents (either one of them). As an only child her dad would have to sell the farm if she left the city when she grew older so it's probable she'll hang around and do part time farm work and also work at the zoo.

Marco - Uhh real estate agent or some sort of salesman. Maybe one of those guys that go on tv and convince people to buy a rubbish product for like 100 times more than it's worth.
Marco being a salesman just seems to click for me if his mother still "disappeared" (in quotes to avoid spoilers - actually what's the point everyone here has read most if not all the books). If we're presuming his mother was never taken away from him then things would probably be different. He's probably be fairly well paid accounting job maybe rather than salesman. He is good at working out money stating it is wholly different thing from maths.

Jake - I really don't know. it's hard to say if he'd have the same leadership skills without the war bringing them out. i wonder if Cassie and him would've ended up together...
Interesting question, I think it's quite possible considering it's the war that drove them apart really. In everyday life he'd still see Cassie in school hanging with Rachel.  If they end up together then again they'd probably just stay in the same city and live their life there.

Seems harsh but Jake wouldn't amount to anything as high as politician.  He is seen as the typical average kid who plays sports but not good enough to be famous. He has a pretty open future really.  In the book with the alternate future where Yeerks have taken over, Cassie, Rachel and Tobias are part of a resistance against Yeerk Marco, (sorry long sentence anyway), Jake is give an identity of some engineering project work. I can picture him doing mechanic or engineering but because his character (before Animorphs) isn't really that specific it's possible he could end up doing anything like being a doctor.

Ax - He'd be fighting the yeerks with his fellow andalites.
Like Jake his story is kinda vague and seemingly typical as well. It's a good comparison here because on one level they are the same except one is alien. Same good family, same brother who excels at something, average at school.  Due to his brother's background he'll most likely try to follow in his footsteps but I'm only saying that because we don't know what actual jobs are also out there or what interests Ax. If we imagine if there was a serious war out there and society was focused towards militaristic gains and Tom was a famous hero rather than a good basketball player then Jake would be in the same position as Ax.

EDIT:
I missed out Rachel!
Rachel would probably be a model or an athlete, like you said. I wouldn't say soldier because she doesn't realize that side of her until into the war, and if it never happened, that dark side would be forever hidden.
I completely agree it's the war that brought out her dark nature.  It seems quite boring to say this again but she has one of those open futures like Jake.  I agree that model is possible but I vaguely remember in one book she was too tall to be a really really good/famous athlete so that kinda squishes that idea. With her family being split and from our impression of her in the books she is a person who once she knows what she wants will drive for it (recklessly).  I get the impression that she could be one of those death-defying risk takers to get the thrill of life.  As if living life monotonously on it's own isn't enough. It's possible she would get into college and find someone who lives that kind of life too and go travel around the country.

Yeah i agree with most of what is said.
Though i see Marco becoming an engineer like his dad and possible that is what his mother did as well. i mean if they were both scientists I'm sure Marco is more likely to go in that direction. Though i do admit he looks like the type of guy who wold do commercials

Rachel thinks she's too tall to be a gymnast, but no one else seems to agree. ^^() Her father, if I'm not mistaken, tells her she could be big, that she has talent, so she could get into that.
But I always saw her as a model as well. Before the last handful of books I always thought that when the war was over, the morphing power would give her epic modelling skills. The image of her just starting a morph to an eagle, or a cheetah, with the feather patterns/spot patterns/animal eyes or something on an advertisement for jewelry or perfume would be awesome.

I agree that Jake and Tobias are hard to answer here... I like to think Tobias wouldn't kill himself. I mean, he's hardly the first kid to ever be bullied; most of 'em don't commit suicide and don't do school shootings and aren't ever really noticed. I like the idea of him doing something creative, like art or writing or graphic design or somethin'. Or maybe Paleontology. x3 Yay for dinosaurs~ As for Jake... I don't know. He is startlingly average; before the war no real strong talents stand out. For reasons I'm not entirely sure of, I want to say photographer, but that's probably just 'cause I'm in a Spiderman funk right now and the movie!Peter Parker looks a lot like how I imagine Jake.

Anyone else see it?

Marco... I see Marco trying to get some glorious job, like rock star or actor, but winding up as some tech guy in the end. Even in the very beginning, though, he was talkin' about being rich and famous, so maybe he'd work his way to stardom.

Cassie's easy; she was always planning to be a vet. x3

As for Ax... if, by 'no war' you mean no war with the Yeerks at all, even off in their far corner of the galaxy... then I think Ax winds up an awful lot like Jake. He doesn't pay much attention in school and doesn't seem to have much potential to be a scientist or an artist, and those two, along with soldier, seem to be the only options for Andalite jobs. x3 So yeah, he'd prolly be in the standing army. (And if you DID mean there's no war on the Yeerks at all, then Tobias' question is answered, too- Elfangor was never fighting Yeerks in the vicinity and never rescued Loren from the Skrit Na, he doesn't exist. x3)
I wonder whether Elfangor would have been a soldier, though, without the war.

Jake said several times he could be a Navy fighter pilot. He has the ambition to get what he wants, and has the self control for it. I don't think he is as laid back as navy pilots, but still, he would work.
Until then we fight.
